There is this bug, which for me was introduced approx 5-6 patches ago.. somewhere at the start of summer. It appears out of complete randomness and involves the screen doing a quick jerk then the client not updating any server data.
That means if you're warping, your ship doesnt move, speed and distance don't change.. but the warp tunnel animation and artificial shaking are all there. Basically the game isn't locked up but remains completely unresponsive.
I tested it with two clients, and both clients are affected at the same time, which leads me to believe there is some sort of packet loss going on which prevents communication to the server. I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this and if they have managed to get it fixed. It could be an issue with my router/modem, but afaik nothing has changed there for ages, and this bug did start occuring right after one of the patches.
If I'm lucky, I can go through a day of seeing this bug maybe once, or never. But sometimes it gets really bad, with up to a half-dozen occurrances in one night. The only quick fix is to relog, and as you can imagine thats not very fun if you're in the middle of pvp or something, which thankfully hasn't resulted in me losing a ship yet. If you sit there and wait for it to clear out by itself it can take anywhere from 5-20 minutes.
I also did another test, while I was "frozen" in this state, I tried warping to somewhere, but nothing happened. Then I waited for it to clear up and the result was one second of my ship in warp and then the next moment I was there - as if everything was fast forwarded. This I find especially disturbing.
Say you were camping a gate or something, just sitting there, nothing happening.. and you get this bug. If I didn't notice the screen shake quickly for whatever reason, then it would look as if I'm still sitting there, and nothing is happening. Meanwhile a whole fleet could jump in on top of me and gank me, and then pod me, and I'd never even see it. Thankfully I'm always chatting, and when I see my text not going through I know I'm in trouble. Could it be an issue with incoming data to my computer through the router? I really dont know but this needs to go, now. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

I get it too. Bugs the hell out of me.
Nothing like mining Jaspet and throwing away 600+m^3 because you couldn't move crap from your cargo to the can. ----------- Fighting for the ideals of freespace, posthuman ethics, and rock & roll. |

I get that bug a few times a week without fail.
I tend to keep hitting the afterburner icons on the HUD and it seems to "wake up" the game after a bit so that it realises its not doing anything.
Very annoying agreed.

Log it with screenshots, fraps, and run the logserver while reproducing it, then send it in via the bug submission report. It's under EVE Insider, Submit Bug. -----------------------------------------------

I think it's just lag; seen it a few times and when I glanced at the network traffic lights on my switch, they weren't blinking at all, so...
Eventually you suddenly re-enter warp, and actually move, or you get disconnected.
It could be like the Matrix deja-vu, only happens when they make some change to your account or the area you're in...

I've come to call this the "cam freeze bug" I've been getting it for the past 8-10 months; it's a big lag spike as far as I can tell, takes a minute for it to clear up but you and I know a minute is a lifetime when you're out and about...
I've posted about this months ago to see no resolve...
My best advise, ninja-relog like a mofo!

ive had that one on a regular basis.
witha regular basis i mean that i could almost set the clock after it.
every 45-50min i would get that and the screen was frozen with shaking for up to 2 min.
i dont have it now. what i did was digging around and found out that my graphics card wasnt running at AGP 8x as it should do when the AGP was set to auto in the bios. i put it manually to AGP 8x and set the AGP mem to 256mb and never had it since.
i use a FX5950.

I've had this since the start of the game. I seem to be able to reproduce it by changing my windowsclock. This seems to trigger the same effect. Try it and see if i'm right?
I'm gonna try the AGP 8X thing.

Sorry not seen it, I often run 2-3 clients from the same pc and not experienced this bug.

Yep I get it too.
I can almost guarantee that if I'm going to play for a couple of hours, it'll happen at least once.
As an added side effect, my cap usually buggers up afterwards as well. This can only be fixed by redocking. |
