So the story goes it is exactly that - CCP have admitted it IS possible to delete the models within eve so that, when you play, all the graphics engine will render is pretty squares / crosses / whatever. It is, hopefully, how the tactical display (come shiva) will work.
And they are unable to detect if people are doing it.

I will give 10mil isk to the first Phoenix Alliance member that clearly states and admits the fact that one of the reasons PA never wants to jump in and/or justifies their loss due to C.C.P.'s aleged use of this exploit.
i hereby clearly state and admit that thing what you said

Other MMOGs are now doing client side computer scans, not just of the game folder, but of every process running. This is the ONLY solution to some types of cheating, and I'm not even sure it is a full solution. This would irk a lot of people but I think it would be worth it.

My personal obseravtions and thoughts:
I never knew about this until yesterday, but as a programmer it makes sense. Remove the model and then you remove the lag.
I tried starting EVE from my file server via a 100MBit LAN, it took for ever, I think the code is CRC checked but not too sure about the .stuff files considering this thread.
Anyone one that needs the "no load lag" edge is just pathetic. Play and win or lose on an even field. Otherwise you are an exploiter.
/me goes to kill stuff and play the game instead of discussing it to death. -- Intergalactic Teeth Pullers "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." Albert Einstein |

Edited by: Hakera on 29/09/2004 00:25:09 Use Punkbuster, there are certain key files in the eve client that can be scanned as you connect to the server relatively quickly, if a difference in file size is detected just deny a connection.

Those of us that are too honest to sink to such exploits, should know we are honest with a good cause.

ouch. didn't think anyone else read your forums? jeebus, what a burn!
would you like some ketchup with that foot? mayo, mustard, anything?
i agree that models you're zoomed so far out you can't even see shouldn't be rendered. in fact, if i were CCP, i would include a completely user-configurable setting that allows the player to punch in the zoom level at which ships become rendered. 0% zoom would be right up on your ship. 100% would be as far out as you can get. i think i'd set mine at about 15% or so. would be a VERY nice feature. hopefully, something is being done about this and being incorporated into the new tactical view.
