Edited by: Shinnen on 28/07/2009 11:43:56 I actually look fondly back at the days where I was poor.
I was asking for isk in jita local (before lag / contracts / belt removal)
Nikolai Nuvolari gave me 4m ISK and I bought some stuff with it. 4m isk is nothing to me now. Quite funny how much of a big deal it was for a noob.

Popping a Shadow Serp rat 6 months into playing and finding a 100mill Snake implant in it! I had to double take when I saw the sell price.
Being wardecced by a POS ransom corp and then deciding in true Wild Bunch style "Why not?" and went in with two T1 Drakes and a T1 fit Mega and destroying three of their battleships with no losses for us.
Being 3 weeks old and warping into Egghelende on my second mission! Ahh bless.

I have a couple...
Seeing my first battleship back when they were incredibly rare.
Living and pirating in Passari when missions used to send people to spots several hundred kms off the belts and trying to chase targets down for ransom.

Originally by: Britt Foxx When i started playing this game, 5k peak online at the same time was a rarity. The devs/PR people had a much more intimate relationship with the player base, they actually at times seemed to listen, they actually seemed to care.
I remember mining my butt off to get a thorax to mine in, then a megathron, then to an apoc, which at that time was the best mining ship in game, barges let alone exhumer's werent even a thought yet. If you had an apoc with the skill's to mount up 8 miner II's and fly ten harvies, you had hit end game as far as a miner went. ( yeah, ten harvies, back then before they created bandwidth and fiddled with mining amounts, you flew ten). Every race had just 2 battleships and 1 BC, and the curent lineup of cruisers. No hac's, no inties, none of that. A CNR was rare, probably rarer than the current number of MOM's in game, you were rich and leet if yah could get your hands on one then.
Warefare wasnt as much as a blobfest that as it is now. Real pirates actually existed, they had honor and integrity too. You paid the ransom, you lived, as promised. There were no POS's, no sovereignty, no meta gaming.
While they were some real buttnuggets here and there in game, for the most part everyone had a lot more respect for each other. Now, it's just a cesspool all around for the most part, no honor, no integrity, no rhyme nor reason, Mostly just zombies running around now eating peoples heads and they themselves dont even know why for the most part, the only goal is to feed an E-Peen with no real goals for what they do in game other than that.
Wish i had a time machine.
This.
When getting a BS was an achievement in itself and not something you could make the ISK for in 1 day.

wining my 1st 1v1 then being told to turn off my guns to let the people I was baiting for get on the main
being drunk and chalanging someone in a cyclone to a 1v1 in eifer which he dishoners and brings 2 of his mates on to me and then choosing the DRAKE as 2nd primary in my huricain.
but mostly i miss when a 3-5 man gang was considerd a blob EX Nano *** since 2006 |

My first Apocalypse was quite a joy to behold, still my favourite looking battleship. Lost it on my own to a gang of around 30 hacs in nullsec. I wasn't ratting, I got baited and blobbed.
I remembered when I used to sit in a belt mining with a battleship just to fill up a giant secure container and being pleased with the isk I'd earnt.
When pvp'ers used to seem like strange mystical ships that were practically invincible to any weapons I could use.
When level 4's used to actually be hard and dangerous.
I don't actually have any real fond memories because eves better then it ever has been in my opinion.
I'd never want to go back to something like three or four years ago to the old graphics with ridiculously overpowered ewar, insane nano ships, no faction war, no wormholes, no decent exploration sites etc...
I'd be bored out my tree and quit the game as I would have already done if it hadn't been for the ongoing improvements.

while on my trial for eve way way back, getting pmd by a gm asking me what other mmos i had played, how i was liking eve, did i think the game was too hard, how was the tutorial, etc. i only had one other game where someone in poewer ever really took time to ask what i thought of things.
being able to "safely" use low sec jumps for shortcuts to get somewhere fast. or just popping into them out of curiousity and only on the very rare occasion seeing anyone at all and ever rarer seeing anyone that would even try to lock you, low sec was so much different back in the day.
seeing my first bs next to my tiny little frigate on our first corp op and thinking wow.

THIS. Pretty much all the guys I knew when I first started playing have moved on, see a couple flash online once in a blue moon.
Also when the forums weren't full of 10 year olds, but had some decent posters like Dark Shikari, Hippoking, to name just two.

My shield was about to bleed into armor, and I had only 3 Warrior II's left by the time the guy popped (had a drone bay capable of 15 heavies). Warped out and back in to scoop 500mil in loot and safely returned to my Gurista home. I miss the nano days

Dropping a 280mil isk implant from a serp rat in a 0.5 system, was only 3 months old. Brought my 1st BS with the cash.
More recently, soloing a domi ( albeit poorly fitted as it turns out) with a t1 fitted thorax and having a corpy watching telling me what a jammy gyt i was.

I was particularly pleased when someone accidentally bought 1 light missile off me for a billion a couple of years ago.
I laughed.
Then I read the evemail he sent me, along the lines of "I don't suppose theres any chance u could send me my money back, is there?" and I laughed some more.
In fact, I still laugh thinking about it. Easiest money I ever made!

Pirating in RMR (small scale pvp) E-Honour. engine trails + some old models (vagabond) when drones weren't completely ass (pre-drone interfacing hidden hp nerf: 10 drones -> 5 drones with 100% dmg still has 5 drones hp) Nos. Large projectiles being not poo NO RIGS lack of overheat UI (and overheating, too...) vagabond doing 4.5km/s with a normal fit (not during nano*** period) scrambler not raping MWD (interesting concept but it breaks minnie/gal) when buffer was viable but not the only way to go (see: rigs)

When I started a couple years ago, you could click on a missile in flight and press the "look at" button to get a missile-cam. That was awesome! It seems to have been removed in one of the graphics engine upgrades, either Trinity or Apocrypha.

I kinda live vicariously through the guys I talk to. I started in '05, after seeing the ads for the Exodus launch and being very dissapointed that SWG sucked.
I liked going to Fanfest and hearing stories from the old hats, The Great Northern War and the days of the Curse Alliance. Listening to CYVOK blow up on the forums, reading about the first real DD (LV's ambush of GF/TCF, I still have the video.)
I heard about how Kestrals once carried torpedoes and battleship pilots ran at the sight of them. =)
A Cerberus was 350mil.
What I really, really am fond of? Sitting in the student union building before night classes, watching EVE videos and reading posts, and smiling as people start gathering around, asking what it is I'm playing. Telling them about EVE, and how it works, and watching the jaws drop at the videos. Watching the jaws drop even further when I tell fanciful tales of loss and victory, ships destroyed and lives crushed, empires having risen and fallen. Explaining that here, you really are something, and that you shape the world. Watching them look back at their WoW clients and wondering what they were really working for during all of that time.
