Totally agree dude. Every time I get shot I'm all "why you violence my ship?" and they're all "cry more noob" and then I do. I cry for hours in my room into my Hannah Montana pillow because internet spaceships is super serious and I'm a serious person but they don't take me for serious and they call me noob and that makes me sad and I cry :(

this.
My first trip through lowsec I "knew" that I might run into a gate camp, so I fitted out an executioner with some good mods and went probing for a good trade run. At this point I only had pve experienc, so knowing how long it took me to lock on frigates (about 3 secs) I knew I had plenty of time and my ship should be invincible if I don't run into a disco camp. Ahh to be a newbie again.
Naturally I ran into a camp by some goons and got insta locked and podded. I spent a few minutes fuming thinking they cheated or something. Then I opened the bio of the guy that podded me and got EVEN MADDER because his bio was a form-mail for a "you bastard for podding me" whine. So I thought, these guys are total jerks. But I cooled myself off and actually read the form mail.
When I cooled off enough, I went ahead and evemailed the guy, told him that I was not going to rant, but I would like to know how he locked me so fast, I should have been able to warp out before he locked. He informed my newbish mind that inties can lock in a fraction of a second with the right mods, and I asked him a few more questions in another evemail, and then I thanked him for his time.
What a different response I got than I would if I had screamed and yelled bloody murder. --

You see, the more CCP streamlines EVE the more mainstream it will become. And the more Mainstream it becomes, the more CCP will Streamline it. I like my EVE as it is, so its best kept "small".
So stop whining or leave, but don't try to change my EVE for the worse.

While OP needs a heavy dose of lithium and generally doesn't get Eve, I must agree that the attitude a lot of people exhibit, particularly on the forums is childish and irritating.

OP sounds pretty angry, so let me relate.
I started out a bear. I mined with friends, hauled stuff, did manufacturing, research etc. I didn't exactly dislike PVP, I was just afraid of it and/or thought I would get my proverbial donkey handed to me.
So a few months into the game, I finally get my first Battlecruiser -then new ships to the game- and am being a hero in lvl3 missions with it. I take the Cyclone I'd grown so attached to to low-sec; a system a sansha's ship log pointed me to.
After clearing out the site, I noticed there were a few other people floating through local, so I made my way on back to empire and saw a hauler slowboating it to a gate. Having read the message that said something to the effect of:
You consent to potentially getting blown up and your pod tea-bagged by nasty people if you enter low-security space.
I understood that this guy wasn't necessarily alone. Just for laughs I locked him, and sat there, waiting for him to react, while heading towards the gate (these were the days of 15km being the closet you could warp to something).
He told me in local
"Come on, do it, you ****ing ***ashole"
To which I simply responded
"lol nah, just kidding. wouldn't shoot someone that can't fight back anyway :)"
A few seconds later the gate cycles several times and I'm greeted by a BoBBlob.
The CEO of BNC then pulled me into a convo along with the CEO of RKK and a few other BoBits and told me, and I quote:
"don't you ****ing ever dare lock or attack any of our members ever again or I swear I'll ****ing hunt you down and follow you personally till you quit this game"
I responded simply with
"geez, I was just kidding... :("
To which he said
"I don't ****ing care. You don't ****ing lock our people. Enjoy your trip back to empire ****wit"
The other BoBits that were in the group convo were simply having theirselves a nice little laugh about the whole matter, and a few went on to convo me after they'd podded me back on to empire to tell me what a f'ing noob I am and that they would come after me too if I dared to ever come into 'their space' again.
So yeah, I never liked BoB much.
Then I started trying out some PVP, learned the ins-outs of can baiting, corporation wars etc, and became a 'griefer'. All by myself.
I don't think I look down on noobs when I say that they can overreact excessively to things like "l2p", because honestly, you DO need to learn to play if you get upset because you got killed anywhere in EVE - regardless of whether it was a battleship disco or a simple frig based -10 hulk gank. If you set yourself up to be on the losing end and don't take precautions so that you don't end up BEING on the losing end, then you wholly deserve what happens to you, and may in fact deserve some degree of goading.
This is especially true if you mouth off before the fact. ---

Tip is, never converse with the enemy, if it isn't someone you respect and if you do, bypass all the emotional drama and cut to the core of the issue.
I would never ever let myself get entangled in mental midget wrestling off of a gate while my sanity watches.
You need to figure out how things work, what works and why and then adjust accordingly. You don't need to play their game, you just need to play around them if you can't outplay them.

The best answer to any "why did you do that" question in EVE is "because you let me". OP should start to understand, heed and live that answer and realise it's profoundness.
If you move yourself into a position where you can be taken advantage from then that's a choice, the end result (wrecks, isk loss, throwing your toys out of the pram) is therefore ALWAYS one's own fault (when allowed by game mechanics and rules).
Unlike other MMO's, parents or social workers; taking a passive, non-effort or unprepared approach is NOT rewarded.

in EVE there are predators and prey... which are you?
you can excel in both, depending on what ship you are flying and what kind of gang you are in. PvP in lowsec does not always mean blowing up the enemy... successfully evading a gatecamp or roaming gang (and causing them frustration) is also a victory, and often requires a certain amount of cunning and skill, and even teamwork.
there are many aspects to EVE, even though a large amount of the playerbase just wants to play counterstrike in space...
~~~~~ Remember, EVE is a sandbox and other MMOs are rock gardens. Pretty rocks can be collected, but collecting sand is pointless. Instead build a sandcastle and keep it from being knocked down. |
Credit where credit is due, the man does have a point.
The Eve player base has a nasty tendency to patronise others in a bad way, the bigger the age difference the worse it is.
We as player-base are supposedly one of the more mature in the MMORPG world which quite frankly gives me shivers at times as the whining and counter-whining comes damn close to criminally offensive in normal society.
If you have no idea what I just said, try reading some of the ECM, Laser, Blaster, log-offski etc. discussions and picture in your mind how your immediate surroundings would react if you spewed the bile in those threads in the real world.
Language is a marvellous thing. It allows one to make a point without hurting another and can in extreme circumstances even facilitate understanding .. you "one-liners" and "meme-parrots" should try it some time, truly wondrous.
The fact that there are so many flamers in this thread who haven't the intelligence to actually discuss the topic and instead post brain-dead comments like the one above only emphasizes the point the OP was trying to make. Nice job. Also, continuing to flame and post only bumps the topic, so again, keep up the brilliant work for helping bring awareness to the jerk-side of EVE.
What topic? The OP's sitting there ****ing and moaning because he doesn't like EVE. Playing EVE and expecting not to get shot at by other players is like playing Starcraft and *****ing when zerglings kill your stuff.
The OP needs no discussion. It's a tear-filled *****fest that exists soley because he doesn't understand EVE's core design and feels the need to personally insult people who play the game. This thread has comedy value only.
Eve was designed from the outset to be a PvP game, the fact that you choose to remain blind to the fact will not, and cannot deter any of us from playing the game the way it was meant to be played.
if you dont like the way things are out there, pick up a gun, and shoot someone back.
The majority of players are carebears, and tha majority is the biggest bulk profit for CCP. Bottom line business sense wise, CCP will cater to the bulk, and the bulk are carebears. Get used to it, your "ballscreaming" as OP put it will do you no good. Carebears decide what happens, not pvpers. Get over it :)
wrong and...wrong
I supose CCP knows by know that EvE is succesfull because it`s a niche game . Turning it into WoW in space would be just like pulling a NGE , but for CCP that would be probably suicide
as for the op , just in case you arent troling : ---Insults go here , all of them , you deserve them------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now please , really , explain to me why the WoW sheeps tend to migrate allover the place ****ing over everything that isnt WoW and attempting desperately to change everything into WoW before moving again to some other game to **** allover? Arent there enough clones there? hell you`ll even get WoW in space soon...
and hell yes , i hope you(they) quit the game :
and I too can do the dumb "cash" argument : If enough WoWsheep hang around ,and the game will change for them , the core players will leave , the sheep ofcourse will leave aswell within a few months and eve will die
Well considering that is the point of most of these threads, many of us feel that it would be unsporting of us to not take the bate. I mean all that effort put into trying to set up a nice troll, it would be criminal to not flame it. It would be a much bigger insult to respond nicely.
It's like coming across a intricate setup of levels and pulleys all connected to a big red button with the label "DO NOT PRESS! WILL CAUSE END THE UNIVERSE!". Obviously you must push it. Someone put all that work into it, probably a significant portion of their life. All that effort, all that planning, all that talent. All of it would be wasted if the button were not pushed. And in the end, what is a single universe next to that type of burden on your conscience?
What the **** are you talking about?
Lets go through the latest expansions:
Trinity: Primarily a graphics update. Also added new ships (all classes but one, Marauders, were PVP ships), fleet self-invites (PVP), and superior overview functionality (Primarily PVP)
EA: Faction Warfare. PVP
QR: Nanonerf (PVP), server upgrades/stacklessIO/EVE64 (Partly Jita, but mostly to help with 0.0 lag)
Later, they also improved server hardware for lowsec nodes to help FW (lol PVP)
Bombs were made cheaper (to be made even cheaper in future patches)
Apocrypha:
Wormholes (contain PVE elements, but act as 0.0 with no local which facilitates PVP)
T3 (t3 cruisers are PVP boats, given that they are inefficient for most PVE
