OK...this is the question: What are your favorite warhammer 40k race?
Eldar Space Marines Dark Eldar Tau Necron Chaos Imperial Guard Tyranids
The reason i'm asking is...well...i'm just curious
Even if you dont play the board game(i dont) you are likely to know enough about it to have a favorite. so...which one is yours?
PS: I like the Tyranids!

2x choices.
Battle sisters (flammers everywhere!!!!) and Eldar spectral army (an army fully composed of spectral lords and guardians with very few few normal eldars units)
must say that anyway i like most of the old armies on wh40k -------------------------------------- You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til you understand who's in ruttin' command here. |

Necrons. Ancient race awoken from their slumbering tomb worlds. A fusion from a dying race into robot like zombies from the power of the C'Tan.
And the monoliths are so cool.

Black Templars, followed by Imperial Guard in a close second.
There's just something cool about the normal guy who's given a flak jacket and a rifle and told to go fight that monstrous 8 foot alien or heretic that could crush your skull in one palm, and they do it.

Lol no.
For me the Imperial Guard followed by the Tau. I love the Cold War on steroids look and play of the IG units and the Tau firepower is simply devastating when properly microed. Plus a Knarloc can take out a Monolith solo and still eat the rest of the leftover army for dessert. This is based on the rts games though as I don't have the desire to literally build my army from scratch at a cost of hundreds or even thousands of dollars then find someone else who arsed themselves to do the same thing so we can meet somewhere to fight on a big table moving one unit at a time and maually doing every calculation to determine the outcome.

Never played TT, but I have the Dawn Of Games and am interested in the 40K universe.
I like Tau best, both as enjoyable to play and their goals. In terms of the best army, I'll be boring and say Space Marines.

While my experience comes form TT AND DoW, i find Tau in general have pretty nice tactical options to deal with nearly anything. Most times you can rescue your units with a good equipped crisis team and your commander (HQ in TT) or outmaneuver your enemy with your kroot troops (which is not that easy in the TT because the more Kroot the less firepower you have left). Also every Firewarrior troop needs its own transport vehicle.
Edit, as a logical consequence, my second most played race is Eldar.

I dunno. My experience comes entirely from the DoW game franchise, so um...
Imperial Guard, likely, followed closely by Tau, with the Sisters of Battle getting an honorable mention.
Space Marines are cool, but boring. Eldar are too fragile for me, though their mobility is unrivaled.

This, pretty much, Tau are very good at mobile firepower, once seen a Tau player in TT try to Outgunline an Imperial Guard player.

Me? I'm a Space Marines fan ... Have tried them all, Necrons, Tau, Orks, Eldar/Dark Eldar, Imperial Guard ...
Even if everybody plays them, there's nothing like a bad ass hulk of genetically engineered/modified flesh designed with the whole purpose of killing go into the battlefield high on the certainty that what they are doing is the most Holy of Works , praising the one true God Emperor and realizing that in the future, there is only more Holy War.
In the end, Space Marines, simbolize the true Future, THE REAL UNION OF STATE and CHURCH, in all it's bloody Zealotry, Extremist GORY GLORY of Righteous Vengeance and Fanaticism ... that's why I like the Empire, that's even why I liked Starship Troopers 3 hahaa
The Inquisition comes close too ...
That's why I'm Amarr, that's why I like Space Marines.
Tha's whY I like the Imperium, nothing like a whole group of Warlike Xenophobic people believing that what they do is divine decree, there's no shame in anything, only guilt that what you did was not enough or won't be enough and the paranoid delusion that you must behave better or else. It's so damn simple. Even Hatred itself is simple, stamping out all that is different or contrary! It's Marvelous!
The Tau are hippies, the Orks just wanna have fun, the Eldars are too emo and the Dark Eldars are just goths, The Tyranids just act/react, the Necrons are, and the Chaos Armies are just in for the power rush.
Bit of a generalization, but you get why I like the Space Marines.

When I started, they were brand spankin' new. I really like them- the flavor appeals to me, and the tactics either work amazingly well or amazingly poorly. The ability to move my entire army around the board at will, in a single turn, is far too awesome for me to pass up. I use the maneuverability to counter the extreme paper-thin-blow-down-in-a-strong-wind-I-hope-they-don't-spit-on-me stuff they call "armor". That, and DE give me something different than everyone else, and that gives me an edge. There's something to be said for that.

I must say I have never ever seen, on my limited experience anyone play Dark Eldar, only once, and against an ork army of mine. A group of lousy filthy goblins killing centuries old bladed wielding witches in one fell swoop was the most demoralizing thing ever that happened to my opponent, specially after I remarked it , he tried the same psychout on me later when using orks against my space marines, but he never ever tried the dark eldars again
Yeah, dark eldars are kinda rare. Fun background lore tho, and the edge of using a diff army on some people is something that I admire. ---

The funny thing is, I wiped out a 1500 Ork army in 3 turns. Admittedly, it was in a tournament we had organized between a bunch of friends, but still. I did the same thing to a Black Templar army immediately afterwards. All it took was to out-maneuver the CC infantry, use one squad in a skimmer with AT guns to take out the vehicles, and focus fire on individual mobs. Cleans them up nicely, and I only lost 6 infantrymen.
Like I said, they either work really well, or not at all. And Wyches are NOT the choice against Orks- you shouldn't try to beat someone at their specialty, you'll just lose. It's been ages since I played, though, and now I want to again . . .

I stay away from the wargaming aspects, sticking to Dark Heresy and the soon-to-be Rogue Trader RPG.
Thought for the day: "What lays forgotten is that way for a reason."
Although I'm a staunch radical and xeno loving Human, I'd have to say the Tau have always had my eye. There's something about their technology that makes anything blessed by the Machine-God look like Tranch War rubble. I once read an auspex readout on my data-pict (that wasn't pron this time I swear) that showed one of their ships utilising some other form of space travel then the warp. That in itself is something the Imperium needs. But um, just betwen you and me, I'd spend a night with an Eldar women. *wink wink* Call me gutter-s****but you'd say the same thing if you saw one, and lived.
*sigh* Annyways let me grab my lasrifle and flak armour, there's enemies for our cannon-fodder...er I mean Guardsman to fight. Yeah for the Emperor and all that. |

Gonna be really geeky and explain this the Tau dont have any psykers which precludes any Tau having the navigator gene so they have no way of navigating through the warp, instead of using geller feild technology and thier starships fully entering the warp they make short skips between the boundary layers of the material universe and the warp and consequently it takes them much longer to get anywhere.
