Edited by: Big Gulpp on 04/08/2009 22:26:56 It is dissapointing that we live in times where the idea of "honor" is nothing more than a term and definition in a dictionary. I lost a small POS today, and yes i suppose these are my "tears". But it is sad to see that players will take out others without any provocation or motive, but only because they can. I will replace it, rebuild and move on. However, I have always believed that a fight worth fighting, is only fought in self defense or to challenge one's self. Not simply because "I can". This seems cowardly and insincere to me.

"honour" is not something you do for external rewards
Sorry if Hollywood lied to you about this.

I will replace it, rebuild and move on. However, I will no longer let the lesser player who is afk'ing in his hulk or the weak pvp'er keep their ship.
And this, was just me venting. I will always give the lesser guy a fair deal. Its just me.

Something like this?
Bushido (武士道?), meaning "Way of the Warrior", is a Japanese code of conduct and a way of the samurai life, loosely analogous to the concept of chivalry.

Honor is something very rare in Eve. A player with honor and who is trustworthy is a very rare occurance in this game, where pirates and griefers are the norm.
I can say from personal experience that those who value honor are looked down upon by the rest of the Eve populace. I had to leave my old Corp because they decided to enter an Alliance that worked with the Goons, who I will never accept, and so I know the cost of Honor here.
I hope you find others you can trust, but remember that this game is set up to promote treachery and piracy. Keep that in mind, and you should avoid too many surprises.
Good luck, and I hope you keep your own head high while others bend under the weight of their actions.

"honor" is a ridiculous concept in a video game, especially of the capital h "Honor" variety. I, personally, play this game straight. I don't pirate, I don't lie, none of that. But if it weren't for those who do, this wouldn't be a game at all. It would just be a whole lot of mining and really embarrassing roleplaying.

In Duck Hunt I am not allowed to use the true weapon of the Samuri - a sword. Instead I am expected to cut down unarmed ducks with a firearm. How could Nintendo expect me to be so without Honor?? Once I stop watching these Sailor Moon dvds you better believe Nintendo is going to get an earful!! Assuming mom ever gets off the phone. Geez.

Edited by: Talon Aidian on 05/08/2009 11:29:38 Edited by: Talon Aidian on 05/08/2009 11:28:24 Honor is not a matter of where you are or what other people think of your conduct. It is about how the basis of how you act in any situtation.
To base one's action on the popular beliefs of those around you is not Honor, it is Accommodation.
To base one's action on the perception of yourself by others is not Honor, it is Pride.
To base one's action on the situation is not Honor, it is Cowardice.
It does not matter if the persons you interact with are on the Net or directly in front of you. How you act is still your action, and you are accountable for it. Eve is about real people, not computerized targets.
Mostly, though, Honor is about your own morality. Either you understand and accept the concepts of Honor, and apply them at all times, or you don't.
Lastly, the proper spelling for the concept of 'Honor', is such. 'Honour' is the High English version of the same word, and more taken to mean an award given by Society for one's conduct, a tangible benefit instead of the actual virtue.

I'm calling bullpuppy on that one.
Honour is the correct spelling. 'Honor' is Webster's bastardisation of the english language. Both spellings hold precicely the same meaning. it's not 'high english' it's simply not american english.

no matter how it is spelled there is not much honor left int he world these days in games or out of games.
now days people do whats easy or convient more often that what could be considered "honorable". of course the notion of bushido and chivilary or whatever olden notions and concepts of honor you want to throw out there are highly romanticized and far from the actual practice even at the height of those practices.
honor has always been a fleeting thing throughout human history, you only see it glimpsed in the greatest of leaders, or soldiers, or saints. now you have to look for a needle in a haystack to find any shread of honor in our leaders and political parties.
and take that and give people a internet to hide behind and a virtual world to live in where any sense of responsibility or real consequences are non existent, you got the modern internet. where you can be as tough a guy as you want on forums, say anything do anything in game, short of a bannable tos violation, and noone knows who you are really, or how tough you really aren't, or how nice you may be in real life but are a complete and utter troll online. the internet in general is just another mask for people to wear.

Honor is a character trait which represents the highest standards of yourself, in being absolutly sticking to what you should really be no matter how bad the temptation is. They're not some points you gather from killing things or performing combat at all.

Welcome to EVE my friend, the universe where people will do whatever they want just because they can, its a cruel place to live and unfortunately you created the perfect "Because i can" situation.
Leaving a small POS in WH space poorly defended, something like that creates an instant reaction of "Can i kill it" so we tested the water and it would indeed seem that we can do it :P
There are a few lessons to learn with this, firstly judging from what i saw with the POS that you came in to WH space without proper preparation, you "had" a small caldari tower with 3 jammers an SMA and a CHA with a disruptor and a webber, there wasn't anything to put people off of attacking the tower, given that you were in a class 3 WH a small tower wouldn't be seen as anywhere near enough, the small towers are pretty much just there for spam and to create an annoyance rather than serve a functional purpose.
If you had had a bigger tower with actual defences you could most likely have avoided this loss and feeling of being "dishonoured" as i said this is EVE people will do it just because they can, it seems you have now been educated and will hopefully learn from this experience, good luck with whatever you now choose to do in EVE and on behalf of Liberty Rogues i thank you for the nice lewts dropped and the iskies ^^

People really need to separate game world from real world.
If you're going to get uppity on the spelling, maybe we should spell it "'onour". If you can't say it, don't complain about how it's spelled.
Just sayin.
