The new series has just started showing in the UK.
Has any noticed the similarity between the new Cylon ships and the Amarr Executioner?
I'd like to teach the world to sing,In perfect harmony Id like to build the world a home,And furnish it with love Grow apple trees and honey bees and snow-white turtle doves

I hadn't noticed, but I really liked watching it. Number 6 is hot, kinda distracts from everything else that's going on *g*

Are you on about the mini series, or have they made a proper series to follow it up?

I watched the repeats of the mini series on Sky One over the weekend and I was quite impressed.
Its certainly more 'adult' than the original, the sfx were good, and it didnt feature that piggin' robo dog thing.. muffet? muffin?
I like the fact that they've changed all the characters and there relationships.. its Battlestar Galatica, but then again it isnt.
No Dirk Benedict either, and thats a good think in my book.

Same here, I also like the idea of them using old fashioned bullets and missiles, and armour for protection rather than the usual energy beams and corresponding defense shields.
Also, the 12 colonies creating the cylons..is that a new concept or was that in the original as well ?
Anyway Sky 1 tonight, 8 pm I think

Yeah, the old fashioned kinetic weapons was interesting, and I was when the Cylons started lobbing nuclear warheads around with glee. That's why I considered it more 'adult', it was full of people dying!
My memory isnt that good about the original series.. hopefully someone else with a better memory than me will remember.
Thanks for the reminder!

Edited by: Monty Burns on 18/10/2004 15:58:32 You might be interested to know that according to the Sky1 adverts this is the WORLD premier of the new series.
If thats correct, we even get it before its sponsor channel Sci-Fi US!
Lets hope it, and the new Stargate (Atlantis included) hold up to there promise!
Edit: Just checked the link above and they dont get it 'till January

I was quite suprised by it really. I expected some half assed, cobbled together affair. There is that very interesting twist with the 'new' cylons, which I won't mention as its a bit of a spoiler, and I like the way they've given a story behind Baltar. Rather than just being a simple case of being evil and defecting , like in the original series, theres some reasoning and explanation why.
And this series is a little bit dirty, compared to the original. No one is a hero or a villain outright, with the borders being a little blurred.
The bullets was a good touch, but was probably an idea borrowed from Space: Above and Beyond (loved that series. Can't see why they ended it )
I really hope they continue and do a full series

I hope I'm not jumping the gun, but I was really impressed with the first episode of the new series... (It was far better than the two feature length episodes that preceeded it).

There's only one problem I can see with Galactica, and well, all the vipers using projectile weapons and that's what happens once they fire them all? they were being attacked every 33 minutes for like 130 hours, and they only loaded up from that station before running off. I can see some trouble rearming guess that's why lasers are better in some cases. plus projectiles are b0rked. someone should have told them to wait till the re/un-nerf
I didn't think the first episode was that much better than the 2 hour pilot, although I still think it's a great series (what little has been on anyway).
also, how is wearing your vest backwards considered futuristic? they look so stupid! =)
