A bit of a pipe dream, but IMAP access would also be quite nice! :)
(that said, implementing such a method I imagine would be very difficult)

I cant type the Aliance or Corp name as i suspected I would be able to.
You are supposed to be able to type your corp/alliance name in the TO field (and should get them as an option in the drop down menu when you start typing the name in the field). Is that not working on your client?
It certainly didnt offer the corp name in the search from a partial (but unique) Corp name, only players. What, I have to admit, I didn't try was trying the exact alliance/Corp name correctly and sending regardless of the search system.
I will conduct better testing and get back to you soon TM

Ok, confirmed with previous poster that If the exact corp name is typed in TO field then nothing appears to happen. That said, i dont have an alt in my corp or alliance to test and see if they received it.
It does accept full and exact corp name (only if Caps are correct too) without prompting a search. But seem to fire off into nowhere (perhaps we are to used to seeing the old style mail). If it is designed not to send a copy to yourself, can we have an option for that to happen. Fire and forget is fine for normal evemail but for corp and alliance is a bit too different and disconcerting, I can see many duplicates popping up. Possibly the same would be nice for all mailing lists.
But the TO field definitely does not like partial corp names. Which when you have some alliance or corp leaders with bizarr or just plain wrong naming Schemes then you end up having fun. Our previous Alliance was a 733t name, but written phonetically. Only the acronym made true sense. Writing that into evemail addresses would drive me up the wall.
Thanks

Edited by: Thresh Avery on 25/10/2009 17:52:36 I like the functionality of the new mail system - the way you can forward and reply to all evemails etc. and especially being able to view your sent mail (this has been missing for such a long time and will end those rare but annoying occasions where you had to ask someone to mail you back what you sent them), but i'm not a fan of the new layout.
One of the things i always thought CCP made better than other non-gaming companies was their mailing system. I love the fact that you list all the mails by the character name/avatar so they are sectioned off. I can't see why this needs to change and of what the benefit it will be.
I strongly oppose this particular change in the new mail system, so if there's anything you can do to implement that option again, i think it would be a big improvement. I'm also not a fan of the way mailing lists are listed in a drop-down box. Again, the tab system was unique to EVE, but i can see why you've done it.
But please reconsider the grouping of mails by character.

I only have one major complaint - 1000 character limit is not nearly enough. As a recruiter I constantly get more than 3 mails when people answer the recruitment questions, the current record is 9 mails. Please raise the limit to at least 10 000.
Oh, and please add a 'new mail' button, the little icon on the left isn't as obvious as you think

agreed, one of the tabs up top should be a by character mail, and should look like the old mailling system but with all the new features.
Being able to see mail by character is VERY useful in eve.

If I understand the system correctly, you can give characters a label and then any mail send by that character will be automatically put in that labels folder (and of course the regular inbox as well). _________________

On the subject of sending mail to corp, it would be nice if you could type in the corp ticker and be able to find the corp that way. "Corp" and "alliance" would be even better. Regarding the behaviour of the reply button for corp mails, I think it's fine that reply sends only to the poster by default. Maybe the reply all button could be used to reply to the corp list? The reply all button doesn't currently seem to do anything for mailing list messages.
I'm having another issue. I'm in some mailing lists which have a space in their name. I now have labels listed for those mailing lists but with the spaces removed. If I try to open a mail which has been sent to one of those lists, it won't open. Instead I get a popup saying "Can't find the specified mailing list". |

Edited by: HongHi Choi on 29/10/2009 18:11:13 Just wanted to say: looks great, feels great and works like a charm (so far). Only bad thing is, you actually need to "know what to push" to see it. Maybe put it up as regular, for those not reading much in forums?
edit: constructive criticism - maybe work on optimization a bit? seems a bit slow. Not that it matters that much.

Is there a planned export feature for mail? I'm sure this if anything could reduce database issues, although the new mail system may be written more efficiently in that respect (since it's not listed here, I've no idea). __________________________________________________

I havent bug reported these yet, few too many small things. If you want me to report them officially just scream i'll go through them. These arent all bugs though, some are comments on features.
* Sending a corp mail to the Corp Name (eg "Red Sun Industries" for me) now arrives in my own box too. But only my "all mail" catagory. Unless I Tag the outgoing mail with Corp. The it appears in the corp group as I Expect. Seems a minor thing you will have noticed yourselfs.
* Got lag sending a message to an alt, must have clicked twice. The UI does not close after the first click. It let me send the same mail twice (or as many times as i can click before it "sends" and closes the evemail mini window) as i got two copies received by the Alt.
* UI Controls are much clearer than before. The Blue stands out and makes you want to hover. I actually found the Compose icons and greyed out others ("reply" etc) quickly, unlike before. So good job there.
* REALLY like the separate notifications Tab, for POS warning mails, bills, killmails, ect. Way less clutter. Old notifications were bundles under Misc, presume you will retrospectively tag Tranquillities notifications for go live.
* The flashing Evemail Tab needs work as it always has. It doesn't stop flashing when you click the Last "unread mail" you have to click away from the tab or do other silly things to prod it to recognise you read all the mails.
There sometimes is lag when you click on an unread message, not just to display it (take that as Sisi being slow) but for the "unread" green tag to disappear. It seems to eventually catch up.
Overall looking great CCP. Keep it up. Screenshots, bug reports and LogSever output can be provided if needed.

You really need to read the threads before making coments.
Quote: The old and new mail systems are currently running in parallel, so the neocom mail button still leads to the old system. To access the new system you need to hold shift and click the neocom mail button. Alternatively you can assign a short cut to the description 'open mail' in the esc menu.

Could you please check if there is a new mail in your old mail system? And if there is, could you mark it as read and check if this still happens?

Ive not yet used this system but...
...Do we have the ability to restrict evemails being sent in corporation and alliance mails, to either certain people (some kind of list that can be added to) or people with a certain role (director role etc?).
Im sure we've all been in alliances/corps where the mails are spammed by random people talking **** :D _______________

Ok, Just confirmed what I am finding with Blink not stopping after read is not related to the old mail system 86198 . As per that bug report.
Found if you click the notifications tab and click back it stops.
Havent confirmed "blink" with gate jumps.

That is available for mailing lists. Its not on for corps, but I agree it would be useful to have that option. Stop all but nominated players post (eg directors and a diplo, etc) or choose to allow all posts.

I just saw the corp/alliance bulletins - awesome, thank you, that solves the problem I mentioned earlier!
I could not test whether those trigger some kind of flashy highlight, but if new bulletins either make the corp window button flash (like the mail button) or if they trigger one of those shiny notifications in the mailbox, awesome.
One request there: Would it be possible to allow corp members (executor corp members) with the "Communications Officer" role to post/edit/delete bulletins?
And back to the mailing lists: Would it be possible to add a third access method, "semi-public", in which anyone can post to a mailing list, but only a selected group can read? This would be useful for alliance diplomacy contacts and similar situations where it's important that someone gets the message.

Would it be possible to add an *Archive* folder or the ability to create folders (not mailing lists)?
Or is that what labels are for? How do labels work?
Will a search function be possible? (similar to the cargo bay search?)
This is honestly one of the features i'm looking most forward to. ____ Domination Balance (Or how we fix the Tempest) |

hey hey
small resposne to labels and their functionality driving me insane already :/
woul;d it be possible to REMOVE the inbox label ? svery mail i recieve automatically has the inbox tag and it has little to no value.
what it IS doing it creating multiple copies of the same mail. i sent an alliance mail and CC'ed it to corp (nice btw) but it also goes into my inbox :/ removing the inbox tag from alliance/corp mails will stop the mail hitting the inbox and repeating in alliance, etc. alliance mail an corp mail should ONLY go into their respective folders and incomming personal mail go into the inbox

Mails need to be labelled by sender/people automatically.
Mails need to be dynamically labelled by date (day/week/month etc).
Custom labels for the corp which are shared by all corp members.
Import/export of labels and labelled mails.
Pretty good start though, nice and clean :-)

No it shouldn't it's what EVE should have used from the very start. There are massive numbers of completely free and open source email things around, it's one of the oldest and most heavily developed standards on the net. Any evemail that doesn't just use normal email as the back-end is still the same basic garbage at core, even if they make it overall slightly less utterly horrible.

So I was thinking, why not let us share a mailbox with another characters like alts, or friends sharing business with you ?
Would be nice to be able to do that :)

Did you check the 'all mails' folder? It is the first one right at the top of all others.
