Too many MMORPGs coming out to decide. Think I'll play each of them for the free month, then cancel and move to the next. Who knows what I'll stick with, after trying all the ones I'm interested in, almost six months from now.

Downloaded and playing. In gameplay terms it feels like Dark Age of Camelot. Can't see what the fuss is all about.

The problem with all these fantasy MMOGs is that they're really formulaic -- sure, Blizzard's a reliable source of sleek games and stylized art, but that doesn't change the fact that they're still making a level-grinding fantasy MMOG with a PvE focus. It's not fundamentally different from Dark Ages of Camelot, Everquest, Lineage, or any of the others. :/

ive been playing beta since 7/10/2004 and open beta etc...
WoW is like fun, for a while and the pvp sucks there is no real reason to play that game if you dont like PvE because that game is 95% PVE the pvp they say will have some function but i doubt it very very much...

One additional note, that allthough Blizzard has produced some truely stunning cinematic trailers for this game (and other games), we are moving past the cinematic-as-payoff era of games, and the in-game graphics of wow looks like an old PSX version of spyro the dragon, or ff7 it really isnt up to date at all.
also I think they are using the everquest engine?
that is what starwars galaxies is using, and their lag/inaccuracy is just horrible, one of my students told me he and his brother was playing SW-g and was flying speederbikes, on each their machine in the same room, on each their screen they were ahead of the other (ie: on their own screen they were like 500m ahead of the other... both of them) so the inaccurary is so horrible they dont even try pvp...  
even the paranoid has real enemies...

Signed up for beta, downloaded it. Took me about 5 hours to work through several bugs both with downloading, installing and then finally playing. Once I got into the game it felt just like the old middle age MMO formula. Didn't really do much for me, atleast in the beginning.
I'll try it for the next few days while the open beta is still going, I doubt i'll play it though since I didn't really see anything special about it, it's just like DaoC with better graphics and a new UI. I haven't had a chance to do any questing, PVP or level up but I doubt that will change anything for me.
The intro was hella cool though.

It is really DAoC revisited. Instanced dungeons are about the only new thing I think.
Fun for a while but as for DAoC I bet that I couldn't stand the level grind halfway through to the highest level anymore.

I had the same problem, make sure u use winzip, turned out my problem was winrar didnt like the zip file for some unknown reason, but winzip worked fine
Also the only good part of this game was the Intro CGI movie, do yourself a favour and steer clear of this game!

But I'll be honest, I have been disappointed. The Blizzard Downloader, first of all, should be renamed to "Blizzard Uploader" as you never use more than a fraction of your bandwidth to download, but your whole connection is pretty much screwed while uploading as fast as you can.
As for gameplay, it's really far more generic than I expected, nothing you probably haven't seen before. The only thing that makes it any better than the next MMORPG in line are the familiar classes, but I am still debating over whether or not I want to stick with it long-term.
I know it's still the Beta and all, but if it's any indication of how it will be in the release, it's a mess! There is terrible lag after fights and while casting spells, which can last for minutes. It's really rediculous, and the community isn't in very good shape in response to it.
I'm glad I went ahead and made another subscription payment to EVE!

Yeah this is a real carebear paradise if a high lvl player attack a lower lvl player he wil get a xp loss the only way he can kill him without xp loss is to wait from agro from the lower lvl.
The graphics makes this game look like a childrens game and the chars you can chose to be all look G.A.Y!!!

no you dont understand... did you play D2 SW/BW for many years... then you know what battle.net is like...
then you will know that you dont want 80% of those ppl to be in a mmo...
the point is that above was changed in the last patch... its not that i dont mind... just simply that **** like that shouldnĘt be in a game like that
you havent seen some of the dance options on some of the female chars there... just add a pole and you have...

yeah i didn't like it at all.
i first downloaded it from some ghey icelandic site veg gave me and after 2.2 gigs on a 512k conection the damm thing is corupted. i had to re-download it and it worked.
i played it for a few hours, only goto lvl 10 but could not be arsed to lvl any more. pvp sucks in it, no regional control system, no long term goal.
intro is sweet though, but game sucks.

Some adults play the game with there kids etcą they saw that things were ok on some lvl, then things are thrown like that and they have the right to get upset. (The game lacks consistencyą I donĘt care how fantasy based, but if it is they should keep it equal for both F/M theną other wise there quite sexist IMO)

Simply put, this is the finest RPGMMOG ever crafted. They borrowed from every major MMOG (yes even Eve!), refined everything the way only Blizzard can, and have delivered an amazing product.
Don't get me wrong, I won't stop playing Eve, because Eve is a completely different kind of MMOG, but for those that enjoy RPGs, WoW should be given a very close look.
A few points:
-Look at levels 1-60 as training, just like DAOC, the PvP won't really open up until the "training grind" is over.
-WoW is a PvP game all the way! Even the "normal" servers are PvP, and the PvP servers deliver constant fun PvP starting at about level 20!
-WoW integrates PvP and PvE better than I've seen done anywhere, you'll find yourself fighting alongside NPCs against the other side often.
-WoW makes leveling actually fun, with an amazing quest system in place of the normal spawn camping grind.
-Combat complexity has been taken to a whole new level, both character templates, and combat tactics have enough options to create a lot of variety.
-Graphics are breathtaking, original, and they run great on slower systems!
-Controls: althought "click to move" is possible, WoW is based on actually controlling your character like an FPS. I personally cannot stand 'click to move' in RPGMMOGs. Eve is my only example of an MMOG where I don't mind it, but Eve is more of an RTSMMOG in many ways...
Now we just need to get some of CCP's database people over to help Blizzard out and WoW is all set for release! (I'm sure they will get it worked out themselves sooner or later!)

The thing that made me drop Final Fantasy XI was that you couldn't really gain XP at a decend rate alone, and finding a decent group was taking on average 45-60 minutes, unless you were a healer.
BTW, one of the things I really like about Eve is that there's always something interesting to do even when your friends aren't on yet.
When I see WoW, I can't help but think both looks very, very similar in their game mechanics.
Anyone can tell me what they think of that aspect of the game? I don't espescially fancy a huge DL and leveling to average level just to find out...

how is wow so great? its the exact same thing as other RPG's it is made more for the  for sure... they had no penalties or even reasons to pvp... they put in item durability at the end... then made pvp death reduce your durability by 10% and resurrecting someone would hit them even more... this would end up that after few times dieing you ended up paying few Gold pieces... and that is for DOING NOTING!! having FUN so it seems...
Blizzard promises battle grounds for release... something that isnt even described how it will work and what reason/purpose it will have...

combat is not complex you can start to make cookie cutters again... war going stam/str simple like any other game.. and casters going for mana stuff... its just that simple, you wont see a the freedom that you think is out there... because simply put it... each class has a roll if you step out... you will be facing a lot of challenges because it wasnt ment to be the way. And a normal classic build will own your char any day... hence meaning that your build is not going to work and its same like other MMO's RPG's

GFX are toon like... nothing new... im amazed how much of a resource hog WOW is... takes up so much mem and cpu even when its minimized.. you cant even run a browser it eats up all my cpu cycles... while eve has gone a long way it takes from 1-10% cpu while minimized... and doesnt even eat 100%

There will NEVER be real emphasis on PVP in a PVE gameą because that would force the PVE ppl to PVP and they could care lessą
There are so many imbalancesą that are just so SICK in that game when fightingą take it those who hate ōfearö from the horde sideą know what I mean.. to see 50 of your town guards be feared for 20 sec meaning they can be attacked and they scater in all directions is JUST VERY VERY OVER POWERINGą sure in PVE that is fine in PVP NOOO

Which type of server are you guys gonna play at? I was thinking of trying the PvP servers first but I¦m not sure anymore after talking with some friends thats in beta.
The allaince vs horde war sounds pretty sweet plus that I¦m afraid that the PvP servers is gonna be full of *******s and smack talking kids a la Lineage II style since the avereage age of the players is gonna be much lower than in EVE.

I have to agree with most of you here that have been disappointed with WoW. I played Final Stress and Beta a little bit, until I got bored with killing pigs and picking flowers, not to mention the player-base. 
Imagine a game eeriliy similar to DAoC, where it seems like 80-90% of the players are under the age of 15. I tried to play on the roleplay servers, but even the general chat in these consisted of things like:
"this game sucks, I've been playing for like an hour and I'm only level 8, I should be 60 already"
"no 5h1t dude, at least these RP servers have good lag tho ^^"
"ANYONE CRAFTING 6 SLOT BAGS I PAY U GOOD!!!!!!!!!111!!!"
"LEVEL 27 TROL SHAM OUTSIDE GOLDSHIRE!!!!"
"rofl horde sux dude"
I was expecting a lot more out of this game, but instead I was unpleasantly suprised at how mediocre it is. I will be sticking with EVE.
(see Drutort's posts for problems with gameplay, he has covered everything; and if you think EVE can get unbalanced... HA)

Well, it was Beta so people probably were not taking things too seriously. Even on the RP servers. Characters get wiped so most people were just feeling things out and acting silly at times, yes I agree with that. However, I think post retail this will change, especially on the RP servers.
Just to point out, we have PLENTY of 1337 speaking idiots here in EvE. Plenty.
I also seriously doubt everyone playing the game will be "under" 15 yrs of age. Sorry it's just not a fair review of the game from one persons experience.

I played Wow during some of the closed beta and played it a lot during the final open beta phase. While I don't think that it pwns most other games, I do think it will have a large player base and offer some fun and challenges do the people who play it. I noticed that there were a lot of the normal problems that all games have during beta phases, and those included lag and immature players. But in all honesty what game does not have the immature players in it?
Will I play it in retail? Yes. I was looking for something that offered a change of pace to what I have currently been doing in Eve. Will it make me leave Eve? Not a chance in this world.

Nothing new, nothing special, just looks like WoW is trying to live off the hype from the WarCraft RTSs.
