Bah. Who cares? PvP hand-to-hand combat outside the cafe on the promenade where vendors struggle to make 1 ISK an hour selling Qafe to transients?
Integrating such a thing into the Eve economy is probably as much of a challenge as the technical aspects. I hope we never see this. Want to see people move around in animated fashion? Stick to Dust 514. |

Your information is a bit dated... and it's called Incarna now.
Incarna Fan Fest sneak peak
According to the tiny bit of information released at Fan Fest they are going in a much different direction with this than what was has been previously surmised.
So now it's got at least it's third name. What does that change? Nothing but the name.
Everything I've posted has been stated by a CCP employee on this web site. If you have specific counters please make them.
The update you seek is contained in the YouTube footage of FanFest. It was not lengthy, but merely stated that they have decided to take things in to a much higher level with Incarna than has previously been released (on these forums).
The goal will be to give a reason to leaving your ship, an area of (shady) game play not available to those who stay safely enclosed in their pod. Not essential to playing EVE of course, just another avenue to explore like Planetary Interaction or Dust (not the same thing by the way). Watch the clip again with these things in mind.
This is relatively old news, if you wish to evaluate it for yourself you'll have to peruse the Fan Fest footage on your own... unless someone has a handy link and approx time on the vid they can pop in here for you. I "think" it was in the keynote speech, but I could be mistaken and it may have been in one of the round tables.
So they're going to do "something" but you don't know what? That's exactly my point about what's wrong with ambulation. That's what we've been hearing for year.
Let me know when you have something informative.

You'd think Incarna would be EXTREMELY high on the list of things to do, considering it would be a MAJOR inviting factor to the NPE, can you imagine starting eve as a new player and actually getting to walk around and meet your tutorial providers, and see your ship, you know instead of getting thrown into space with some buttons and told to go

Just bringing you up to speed on current events, as you were ignorant of them... and to let you know that CCP already had come to the same conclusion that you did. Incarna needed to have a purpose beyond being just a test bed of the technology for World of Darkness. This has been recognized and the design process is now heading in that new and interesting direction.
Thought you'd want to know, although it does somewhat render the main thrust of your thread a moot point.

You're completely wrong. My point is not moot until they actually provide something to do. As it stands now all you said was "B1FF is right." Saying it's going to be cool and useful is what they've been doing for years. The problem is they've yet to show us how it's going to be cool and useful.

Why? How will walking down a hallway help the NPE? How will something that has nothing to do with gameplay help teach newbs about gameplay? How can you learn the interface if you're not using the interface?

Walking in stations would be a great benefit, not only to existing players, but to new players as well. Ive introduced EVE to several people and none have made it passed the trial. One thing everyone says is something like this "I want an avatar, not just look at my ship all day".
I would also love to get out of my ship and walk around these huge space station. Im really looking forward to Incarna.

It's pretty hard for Incarna to "provide something to do" while it's not in game yet.
Does the term "still in development" mean anything to you?
More accurately, your point is redundant.
You say, Incarna needs to have a point. CCP says, Incarna needs to have a point (except, of course, CCP said it first).
If you think you are raising a contraversial point, you missed your window by a couple of months.
Are they keeping a lid on the details of Incarna's direction? Yes. Is that acceptable? Yes. They have yet to give a release date, and until that point they can be a secretive as they like.

You are wrong. CCP wants EVE to be the "Ultimate SciFi-Simulator". Torfi and many others have stated this vision many times. And this vision needs wis!
I¦m very happy that the guys at ccp are working in this direction, in fact it¦s the reason I allways come back to this game - cos for me a pure spaceship-pvp game is too shortminded to be as fascinating as an inhabited, player driven science fiction universe.

my gut says that incarna will be coming out near the release of dust 514 but not before. Since the graphics and such will prob be similar and such.

There will be no walking in Dust - just a lot of undignified running.
I need WiS to talk serious buisness... I got some jobs for other people to do...

*facepalm* But that's what it is already. How is it not inhabitited? How will WiS create what you want?

There is nothing at all wrong with just having ships, however it is limited.
If the overall goal is to create the ultimate SciFi simulator they are quite justified in dipping their toes in other area's as well.
EVE as it is for Starship combat/strategy.
DUST for FPS, planetary flight, RTS elements, and to establish a presence in the console market.
Planetary interaction within EVE for those that like "Civilization" style games.
Incarna to tie some of the other elements together and open up some RPG capabilities (and attract those that have a hard time identifying with a ship as their Avatar). The ability to use this to incorporate mini-games can be a nice addition as well.
So again, EVE is tremendously fun as it is, but compared to the paths that could be explored... well, it has plenty of room to grow. ===== If you go to Za'Ha'Dum I will gank you. |

They ought to subcontract WiS out to Blizzard. It'll be done when it's done and it will be a highly polished piece of gaming software.
Aside from the highly polished leather butt chaps on female avatars, what about WiS needs to be done right?
