Ugliest ships in EVE in my opinion:
- Pretty much every Caldari ship (boxy pieces of bad modern art) - The space terd that is the Dominix (good ship, formless design) - Tormentor (I am a claw) - Crucifier

- most caldari ships - Purifier / Inquisitor - flying shrimp. I will crosstrain to another race to not fly that stealthbomber - maller always makes me think: "Why the long face?"

The Rupture is so obviously a boat motor. I named mine Evinrude.

A couple of people mentioned the Drake and Phoenix as ugliest ships.
Surprised. They actually look functional whereas most other ships in pretty much every race look impractical, even in zero-g environments.
The Drake looks like an effecient, no-frills, nasty missile boat. Just sad they haven't let missles exit launchers like other ammo types properly leave their turrets. How cool would it be to see each of the launchers on the sides spit out missiles? And the Phoenix looks exactly like a giant damage-boat / brick-of-a-tank should. Unlike the king-of-turds-in-space Moros or the how-do-I-dock-this-thing Nag. (The Rev is cool - but almost too 'pretty' for a bad arse damage dealer IMO )
If you look at it, and forget anything about load-bearing structures / symmetry issues, at least the Caldari boats seem largely functional. Rounded corners everywhere (gallente and amarr) and fragile bits (minmatar sails) would be a building nightmare and would do horrible things to interior usable spaces.

Edited by: Reikenji Saito on 08/12/2009 19:15:28 The Rupture is just a giant lump of discoloured dairylea. Apart from that it does it's job well :P
As to ugliest, I reserve my pick for Imicus, I meant what we're they thinking?
"Hey Steve, we've got two bars over there left over shall we bolt them together at awkward angles and design a new ship?"
A few days later...
"Hell yeah, the capsuleers will LOVE the look of this one!"

I don't get it. People rag on the Dominix for begin a "turd" and yet they love the Brutix, which looks like a smaller Dominix/turd with stubby little wings.

I dont mind admitting I wept in public when ccp announced they were changing the onyx from the caracal hull to the moa.
So fugly.
Would like to see the Moa hull get an overhaul to be more like a mini rokh.

Brutix has a moderately-sized forehead and a big chin. Dominix has a massive forehead and no chin. The Brutix is just more aggressive-looking, making it badass, with lots of little details and such. The Dominix looks more like a blow-up balloon for a number of reasons, and I think it's somewhat plain in certain areas.
Personally, I'd have to agree with the Imicus and Griffin as the worst frigates, hands-down, with the Atron, Reaper and Burst thrown in for good measure, plus I'm not too fond of the Punisher and the turret hardpoints on the Tristan makes the ship look pretty bad. Cruisers, I don't care much for the Rupture and Moa, but I quite like the Blackbird hulls myself. A lot of people seem to think the Thorax is a symbol of phallic might, but I don't really think it's got the balls. Most battlecruisers are fine... I wish the Prophecy was less stubby, that's about it. Thinking things through, the battleships are fine except for the Dominix. The Revelation is amazing, the Moros is a nasty mutant udder, and the Amarr carriers are absolutely horrible. I wish the Minmatar ships weren't as rusty, I never really cared for that look even though a lot of their ships are cool. Yes, even the TOTALHELLDEATH GARBAGECAN, the Typhoon. Core Complexion ships look great, it's just the brown that puts me off as it reminds me of *****, and I am sadly not particularly fond of human waste.
Favorites; Wyvern Revelation Chimera Nidhoggur Rokh Apocalypse Hurricane Ferox Caracal Merlin Incursus
I also LOVE the Hyena, T2 Vigil hull. Beautiful, even if it's an expensive/borderline useless ship.

Hrm, 4 pages and not a word of hate for the Vacuum Cleaner That Flies; the Scythe. Srsly, it looks like an upright Hoover hurtling through space. I guess it gets no love in this thread because no one has ever actually seen one.
Beyond that, yeah, the Domi is just as aesthetically offensive. Most Caldari design are iffy at best, their frigates being a notable exception, and for my money, Minmatar is either a hit (Rifter, Stabber, 'Cane, etc.) or a big miss (the aformention lulz that is the Scythe) sort of affair. Amarr has the best-looking Empire fleet though no one can compete with the sleek beauty of the Angel Cartel's ships of the line.
In no particular order, best of EVE:
Rifter, Merlin, Heron, Slicer, Dramiel, Stabber, Hurricane, Prophecy, Myrmidon, and the Megathron

Not sure what air has to do with it...
It has to do with propulsion that is offset in relation to the center of gravity.
I was going to reply to the air in space thing, but decided to lol at the guy's understanding of physics instead. That said, Eve has absolutely no relation to the physical universe. Spaceships that stop dead without engines? Check. Stellar systems with planets that do not orbit? Check. Huge lasers with a range of only 250kms? Check. etc.

To those who complain about some ships being unable to turn because the engines are all along the same plane: Thrust Vectoring
The other issues with deceleration and weapon ranges are valid. The range is more an issue of the scale that combat occurs at though.

I'd like this alot or make it look similar to harpy or vulture.
It's actually kinda weird most the ships in that line look great! Harpy/merlin = AWESOME, Ferox/Vulture = AWESOME, Rokh = less awesome but still good, Moa/Eagle = WTF? Ugly
The osprey is what results from a Raven and Domi matting.
Not sure why everyone hates on the Imicus its not that bad.
Overall there are more good looking ships then bad.

Because engineers really do understand the calculations behind antimatter quantum flux plasma graviton tachyon thrusters, its sci fi it has no relevance to any real world physics.
We still use chemical propelents. As in, rockets. It's ridiculous, imo...
And no, they're not ion thrusters, as it would take FAR longer given the mass of our ships to accelerate.

Moa is ugly as hell. CCP plz change it. Eagle and Onyx are such good ship to make fugly. Blackbird series (Rook, Falcon) needs to become symmetrical as well.
All in all, fire the fool that accepted these designs and make new ones.

Half-assed: I can't help feel that the Hyperion was released before the model was completed. That center ring looks rediculous / half cut off. Also, the Phoon is a big flying hexagon with some stuff stuck to it. The model looks like something you could pump out in about 10 minutes with milkshape.
Another bad design: Not fixing the top gun position on the Enyo. It's positioned and aiming right at the back of the front hood of the ship ffs. I guess if I turn on that module, the Enyo commits suicide.
Obligatory: The new Navy Mega paintjob looks like a ******ed redneck painted it. Someone tell Billy Bob the point of camo paint is NOT TO BE SHINY.

I think there are only 2 ships in Eve, that actualy look like ships.
Chimera and Naglfar.
To everyone who say Caldari ships look functional...
Seriously, since when is a ship that trys to resemble an animal, functional?
Chimera and Nag are they only ships that dont resemble a animal in any way and are pretty much the only ones looking like being built for a purpose rather then to resemble whatever.

Edited by: Lendwill on 10/12/2009 07:51:35 The Cormorant model itself is great, but the textures need to be re-thought. It's one of those designs that looks really cool at first, then becomes more irritating to look at as time goes by. The front half is in a totally different scale from the back half, and replacing the awesome-looking but admittedly off-scale wing ****pit texture from Eve Classic with...nothing? Bad idea. Random Metal Triangle FTL.
Edit: Not changing it. Lol @ word censor.

I remember the concept art pieces for EVE (think they're still in the site gallery), and it was clear from some of them, especially the Amarrian concepts, that the designers were going for a H.R. Geiger future-feel. Check out the concept of the Crucifier if you can find it; it's pure biotech creepy-style.
EVE has never gone for "ultra-hard" realism; which is fine. Suspension of disbelief is a big part of fiction, though for some reason people find it acceptable to swallow orcs, elves and fireball-flinging wizards than science fiction settings, which seem to be subjected to much harsher scrutiny.
EVE's gritty, industrial-harsh style is complemented by the ship designs; it makes the universe feel creepier somehow, which adds to its epic scope. At least, for me it does
Personal worst ship designs, in no particular order: - Imicus - Imicus - Dear lord, the Imicus - Moa - Rupture - Scythe - Vexor (Hairdryer shape aside, that smily face freaks me out >.>) - Dominix (It's a flying space potato.) - Brutix - Hyperion - Prophecy - Revelation
Personal favourite ship designs, also in no particular order: - Executioner - Ashimmu - Myrmidon (Flying blade designs ftw) - Armageddon - Abaddon - Omen - Arbitrator - Incursus - Typhoon - Machariel
