Brock Nelson's bio states that his account was hacked and all assets are unrecoverable. Does anyone know anything about this and what it means for his shareholders?

Hey, he really was hacked, but I suspect it may have been by someone he knew, and for whatever reason ccp is refusing to give him his stuff back.

If this is real (I have no idea) it probably means that it was done at the same IP address. Friends at college, brother/sister.
A post from Brock is in order to let everyone know what is going on.

Because the person logged in to his account and said he had died in a car accident while he was in the US for job training. We also just started an alliance together and he wouldn't leave like this.

Lol. No.
But I'd like to know where the certainty comes from.

Right...I'm convinced.
If he failed to protect access to his account from his home in some way, then that's his responsibility while holding public funds, and he should start grinding those level 4s.

Jilted lover? A woman scorned?
Plausible extremes (with no regards to likelihood, not judging the person in question and taking it at face value) would be best scenario it's a passing joke, and worst case would be scam. That's about it.

I'm convinced he was hacked, I'm quite certain he had plenty of isk to cover the ipo, so the only reason he would quit like this is if he really was hacked.

If he had been hacked and lost all his stuff wouldn't he have posted on the forums letting people know and apologizing, instead of just changing his in-game bio.
Also, if he has been "hacked" and CCP won't replace his stuff then I'd reckon it's down to him account sharing. ------

Hmm, what if you have a second account that you have shared, and your main account which has never been shared is hacked? Would they replace the stuff on the main account or deny you because you are sharing a second account?

BPOs were locked down, can any shareholders confirm if there were votes to unlock them recently?

In a google cached copy of Flux Technologies homepage he states "2009.12.20 Flux Technologies Inc will be closed for the next 2-4 months. Until then, no blueprints will be available for sales." http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:http://flux.evesynergy.com/

The last batch of BPOs were never locked down. Those were the ones he had purchased when he said his buyback would start sometime in January.
No unlock votes have been started on them.
The last vote was on 10/31/2009 to unlock a capital drone bay BPO.
edit: BPO

Only directors in the corp can perform a vote. If all the characters were Brock's which I think they were shareholders are screwed.
Seeing as Brock hasn't bothered to post here about the account hack, I would write this off as a SCAM.

the only time a Senior GM won't try to recover stolen stuff is if there is any sign of account sharing, in that case both people get a temp ban and person doing theft a perm ban usually, and assets are left as is, but if bpo's where locked down in corp sounds more like he/she is giving up due to RL and maybe thought that excuse would be good enough

I agree.
Even though I think that he burned out, lied about being hacked. I would put it under the scam category.

Right, but all the shareholders can see the votes when right clicking on the shares. The last vote was the end of October and it would require the shareholders to vote on it. So I'm guessing none of the last BPOs were locked down since there are no votes for them.

Lets assume I am computer stupid, and since we are kinda on this topic. What can I do to try and prevent somthign like this happening to me, other than the obvious -
1. Good Password 2. I have Norton Anti-Virus and always keep it updated (It does find stuff here and there though that it calls virus's) 3. I use spybot as a 2nd'ary program to get rid of stuff.
Anything else?

Dont share account with a friend. Id say that is the most common case of "hackings" Hence they forbid it

1) Don't give out your email that you use for your eve account to anyone this can be hacked easily via brute force 2) use different password for your eve account than forums and websites that could be comprimised 3) Don't download anything linked to you like a spreadsheet, pdf, exe unless from reputable source, can have keyloggers most virus scanners dont find... 4) get a firewall program that enables each program which can have outgoing/incoming net access.

Don't buy ISK, don't download cracks and hacks, and you will be fine...
EDIT: At account sharing, that is not the most common case of hackings, it is the most common excuse, and there is a huge difference there, i challenge you to find it.!
EDIT2: Really I have never changed my account password, I didn't virus scan on my vista desktop for almost a year, I use windows firewall, and I don't have some fancy spyware removal ****, (only thing i use is cc cleaner and my shift+del button on my keyboard.) I happily share my email address, which btw have the same ****ing password as my eve online accounts.
