Edited by: Tarasina on 05/08/2010 22:41:36 Yes, would be nice to have a notice a little earlier, I patched mine up too to SISI version but got shafted since that wasn't required. But I still bothered to copy again.
Report: Couldn't do anything in first fight. It was over before modules activated. The one battle where we didn't use drones was nice, fast lock times (10 secs maybe), modules activated and fired. After drones were deployed, guns were cycling but not firing(that often, once a minute maybe?). My invulnerability field NEVER wanted to deactivate and I activated it 30 mins earlier.
You seem to be on the right track, keep it up.

Thanks for a nice test run. First time for me in a fleet of this size, so I dont have anything to compare with. But it was a lot of fun :)
This is what I experienced during the test.
My Computer: P4 2.4GHZ QUAD Core, 4GB RAM, ATI 4870X2 (vsync on)
General: - FPS in assembly areas 40-60 - FPS during fight 8-10 - Lag/delay when jumping. When jump completed chat window ++ updates with all that have happened in the period of the delay
Fight1 /w drones: - Delayed targeting time - Delayed response on weapon commands, shoot/stop shoot/reload Summary; more or less impossible to switch targets and fight. Just had to click and wait and see if anything happened.
Fight2 /w drones: - Delayed targeting time - Delayed response on weapon commands, shoot/stop shoot/reload Summary; more or less impossible to switch targets and fight. Just had to click and wait and see if anything happened.
Fight3 /no drones: - Better response on targeting - Better response on weapon commands, shoot/stop shoot/reload Summary; even if response was a bit laggy, it was possible to switch targets and fight

1)Have you put the SISI client into a single, simple installer(so that it doesn't bork up all the time, and possibly mess up the TQ install? CCP: nope... Me: ok, better luck next time.
2)Have you fixed it yet? CCP: nope... Me : LOL, ok, sure, I want to waste hours of my free time helping you figure out something you should have figured out and fixed years ago.
Make a decent installer for SISI, you might have proper turnout.

Which part of, "Create separate folder containing main client, log in to server using proper login technique, and download patch when applicable" is difficult?? Yeah, I know I oversimplified it a bit, but c'mon.. We play EVE.. We're supposed to be more intelligent than the average person...
Hmmmm.... Maybe adding all the pretty, new shinnies to the game to attract new users wasn't such a good idea.
Seriously though, if one thing ever kills this game (besides developer ineffectuality) it will be the dumbing-down done to attract "the other kinds of gamers"! I know I keep coming back to EVE because I can't stand being around the morons that infest other games (would never leave if that 'life' thing didn't keep popping up)
I have a feeling we'll figure out whether CCP is interested in quantity or quality of sub-base in the next 18-22 months.. /fingers crossed for the intelligencia!!
And testing, on the test server, is NOT an extra game feature.. They aren't responsible for making it work for everyone, but we ARE responsible for actively participating in making this game what we want it to be.. If you don't wanna log in to the test server to help out, fine, but you loose the ability to btch if you don't participate
Now if only they'd make a "we're fixing rockets, help us" day! --Zan-- |

I followed the directions to participate in the mass testing and all went well. I now have 2 test server files. One is the original Sisi files and updates, the other is a copy of my TQ folder.
The old one and new one no longer connect to the teat server. Please advise? I must be doing something wrong.

I run an i7 920 with a 5870HD. Can usually run 6-7 clients at a time with no issues

Same here. Can¦t log in with either the patched up SiSi-Version or the up-to-date TQ version. On the download page for the testserver patches there¦s apparently a new build (if i¦m not mistaken) "available for download". Quotation marks because it¦s not exactly available.

The latest patch is being held back for now, not even a DEV is on SiSi which is currently online.

Originally by: Jim Luc I'm just curious, how hard is it to add a check by the server to see if the grid has loaded on the client side before actually placing the ship in the grid?
For instance, if I understand this correctly, the client makes a call to the server, server runs the same call on a server-run version of the game, populates the grid, places the user in the grid, then passes back to the user the updated grid in real-time, etc.
Why not place the character in limbo while loading the grid, then check to make sure the user's client has loaded the grid properly, then place the ship in the grid. This way, you can't warp into a system and everyone already in the grid sees your ship, and has a chance to fire on it, before the client realizes it hasn't loaded the grid yet.
I'm just a simple flash developer, but if I were making a simpler version in flash or java I'd make sure both clients have the same information, and show the user a "loading grid" message or loading animation. Then once everything has loaded, fade everything in nicely, and only after everything is visible for the user, is it represented in local. Not the other way around.
But then again I'm just a lowly flash dev, I'm sure it's more complicated than that
I'd be the first one to hack this! If the client could control what the server does in any way (including telling the server if grid is loaded or not) then it's highly exploitable.
Then again, I'm lazy so I haven't actually checked if CCP has this type of calls built into the client. I highly doubt it though, they're supposedly not dumb or anything ;)

I have had issues installing and using sisi. I ended up having to reinstall my tq eve.
It would be nice if we just download something and hit "run" click through the defaults and end up with an "eve sisi" icon that is distinct from "eve" and updates like eve does. Thats how pretty much all computer applications that are intended for consumers work now.
Make it easy for us to install the test server and make it cause less issues and more people will do it. -Cearain

This was actually posted just yesterday:
Quote:
We're still in the initial phases of acceptance testing, but we've now got a new "Singularity updater" tool that we think will go a long way to making everyone's lives easier here. This is just a simple executable that you'd download, run, and point at your working TQ client. The tool then takes care of copying the client and updating it to the correct Singularity build, automatically. It will also give you a new link to the client, which connects it directly to Singularity. All of this will be with just three easy clicks for the end-user. We're still working out some kinks, and trying to make it run a bit faster, but we hope to have it out in public use very soon.
