Haven't any of you ever flown a Vagabond before? If you follow any of the above advice you are sure to lose your ship.
Instead, the best way to fit it is with 425s, fill your mids with a couple LSEs, a microwarpdrive and a warp disruptor, then throw a couple gyrostabilizers and three warp core stabilizers into your lowslots. Rig however you like, maybe Polycarbs. The method of engagement is simple. Warp in, attack targets. When things start to not look so favorable for you, run away. You are ensured victory every time with a fit like this.

Depending on fit it is possible a vaga would 'win' from a rapier/huginn. However that wont really be a win, since with its web range it can disengage at will, so you have nothing to gain by attacking one.

Quick hijack of topic since I didn't wanna make a new one to ask a simple question.
Pre-dominion I was rolling around in med neut vagas with dual 180mm (falloff rigs): 2900+ m/s, align time 5.8s 500dps @ 1.2+18k
Post dominion I'm not so sure though, going with 2x polycarbs and 2x TE instead of nanos in lows, I'm getting: 2700+ m/s, align time 6.7s 531dps @ 1.8+24k
EHP difference is minor (less w/ polycarbs), shield HP is same for both. They both look pretty even stats wise, more dps+falloff vs higher speed+better align. Am I missing anything obvious? Med neut on both fits ofc. I know it's silly asking which is better, but which is better ? Does the extra tracking from D180's make them worth fitting over 220's?
Disclaimers: Don't tell me to fly a cynabal, I know it's better but putting off flying one until I get gal cruiser 5. Zor's Hyperlink thingy in slot 8, 3% PG in slot 6. Yes, my drone skills suck. TBH, I'm just thinking aloud, feel free to ignore this post.

Dont forget that tracking enhancers also give a tracking bonus. So you will have about 17% better tracking with 2 TEs than you're used to with the old falloff rigged setup. That's slightly more than the tracking difference between D180s and V220s, so in effect you'll be getting 180mm tracking with 220mm DPS and 450mm falloff.

Post both Fittings and we'll give you an opinion.. Regarding the numbers above, aside the Align Time and Speed diference there's a sensible diference in range: 500dps @ 1.2+18k ~ 75% of your dps(around 375) at 10km(optimal + 50% falloff) 531dps @ 1.8+24k ~ 75% of your dps @ 14km That's about 40% beter range on the second fit..

I knew I forgot something Tracking bonus ftw \o/ Most ships just about break 2km/s overloaded so I guess the 200m/s disparity between the 2 isn't too bad, but the align time is annoying. Need better polycarbs tbh. I can also get t2 falloff rigs made for cheap (~10m), and if I fitted those, would it be better to keep the old setup?

Pretty bogstandard cookie cutter fit: 5 guns, med neut, 2x LSE, MWD, 24k/30k point, 3x Gyro Only slots I'm wondering about are the lows and rigs. Hmm, the DPS thing you mention is a good way of looking at it. Guess 220's are the way to go then.
Thanks for your time (feel free to post moar tho)

James Lyrus' fit is fine.
As far as flying it goes, just remember distance is your friend. The farther out you are able to orbit and engage the better. Battleships, that is those you know are going to be setup for pvp, can be a problem because of the possibility of heavy neuts. Because of this issue, some like to invest in a faction warp disruptor which lets them tackle outside of heavy neut range. Besides that, stay +18km away and lay on the damage. Like the stabber pulse your mwd to keep distance and keep on range on drones (remember when drones fall behind you in a trail, that is when you want to shoot them). If the blob becomes an issue, always have an escape plan, and gtfo.
Oh yeah, use ecm drones. I know that hurts the general EFT silliness, but with the neut and tracking enhancers there are no issues killing frigs. The ecm drones will give you the opportunity to engage pretty much whatever you want, and get away.
Its hard to fly because its so fast, you can make a mistake quick and find yourself in web/scram/neut range. But its also easy to fly because of its speed and range bonuses. If your smart very rarely do you find yourself in a situation where you can't just disengage and leave. |

The Speed Rigs were overnerfed and it's best to avoid them, there are allways beter options.. Regarding the Neut, well it's no longer a must given the tracking bonus of Med Range projectile ammo and the fact that all reasonable Vaga fits use 2 Tracking Enhancers(some 425mm Fits don't really need 2 x TE for range), so you're prety much covered vs frigs..
Optimal fit imo for Dual 180mm is this: 5x Dual 180mm ACs II 1x Med Neut II 1x 10MN MWD II 2x LSE II 1x Disruptor II 2x Gyro II 2x TE II 1x Nanofibre II 1x T2 Projectile ROF/Damage Rig 1x AntiKinetic/Extender Rig (T2 if you can afford it)
For 220mm Swap the Neut for a HML II and you should get better range and about 60 more DPS. 425mm Fits can be interesting too..

hmm looks like genos shield tanks their vagas, although I'm sure an armor vaga can do some serious damage.
http://genos.griefwatch.net/?p=losses&type=vagabond
then again doesn't look like they have really flown the vaga in a few months now. but it is what a lazy search shows up.
and I thought the armor tank fleet stabber was where it was at!

Edited by: Proxyyyy on 04/03/2010 17:56:04 I think ill stick with 180's for my vaga and stabber fleet issue. At thoughs speeds my only real threat are other vaga/cynabal and most importantly frigates that will be able to tackle/scram me. The higher tracking + i fit warroirs on anything i nano because of frigates instead of adding Paper dps at the cost of versatility. Not to mention my primary targets are frigates and other cruisers not necessarily the uppper classes although i believe i could. So YEAH! Ill be using 180's...
For me its uses will be strictly for solo! Also if the nano rupture didnt need 425's to have a 30k falloff i would fit 180's everytime. Same with the stabber. Not so much with the hurricane though. For now i engage large gangs with a rupture butz it will be intresting to try it out with a vaga or stabber fleet issue. Who knows i might be able to survive more of thoughs atempts...
Also the armor tanked and arty vaga work btw!

Fits like these are a good reason to use faction points on the Vaga, overheats to 36km and gives ample time to reverse the EHP advantage before closing in to apply the coup de grace.
Admittedly you'll catch most non-faction fits with that, but then again TS scrams on gallente recons are pretty much standard, so nothing unexpected for the experienced pilot.

And say away from... curse, rapier, huggin, lachesis, arazu and heavy neuts.
A properly flown Vagabond rips a Huginn or Rapier into tiny little pieces.
In theory an Arazu or Lachesis could mean trouble, but luckily these never really fit more than one RSD (and usually not even that), so you are shredding those as well.
Arazu and Lachesis are an unknown. Could have 3 damps and point, so cannot engage but at least you can run. On other hand they could have scram and your messed then.
And I agree Huggin and Rapier aren't really a threat 1v1, but they seem to usually have a damage dealer somewhere...
