I was seriously considering it. But then I saw the planetside 2 trailers and came to my senses. Buying a -ú200 sony shitbox just to play dust really isn't worth it for me. Im sure im not the only one who will be playing planetside 2 giving my money to sony and only sony because of ccp's terrible decisions.
But hey. A man can only hope that it goes **** up in 3 months time when the console kids move on to the the nezxt COD or BF and we get a pc version anyway. |

This is where I wish it was possible to purchase a software emulator as I really have no need for a console. This whole strategy just shows how inferior it is playing a FPS game on a console...
You have it backwards mate.. You are suppost to buy a TV and use it as a monitor.. Not use a monitor as a TV.

There's no way to justify spending $400 on a game and console. It will fail completely, and the reason why it'll fail is because it's not cross-platform.
This isn't Halo. |

When Dust 514 is released, we'll all have to pay the cost to purchase the full game BD/download. After that, the only other cost incurred is not specifically related to Dust 514 but necessary to play the game, the cost of your internet connection. Otherwise, you won't need anything else to keep playing. Likely CCP will release booster/map packs or whatever to gain a little extra $$$ since they won't profit monthly from the game like EVE.
I'm so very glad CCP went with Sony PS3 and am even more excited at this "cross-console" idea. From my knowledge, this is the very first game of modern consoles connecting with another game on a completely different platform. Four year cryosis, reversed.-á Genome; Clone, Second. I started saving up for a PS3 when Dust was announced as a PS3 exclusive last year. Just bought it 2 months back for the beta, with a Move with Camera, Nav controller, and Sharpshooter. Then a Hori TAC3 for the KB+M support. I went out last weekend to get a PS Vita to get onto the Neocom beta (which isn't even a full game, just an app for Dust).
I think I may need some counselling...but Sony and CCP probably wouldn't think so :p
Edit: And I'm pretty sure I can find some other uses for the hardware other than playing Dust :s |

nope dust will not have startup fee, they were going to, but they got rid of it. The game is free with your ps3. Rumurs that dust will come preinstalled on the new smaller ps3. http://dl.eve-files.com/media/1206/scimi.jpg |

Bought a PS3 just for dust. It cost $160.
So I figure 10 months of DUST will be the equivalent of 10 months of EVE. At that rate, the PS3 has paid for itself. I do hope CCP gets enough Aurum buying crack addicts to join the game upon launch. The microtransactions with DUST will prove to be the moneymaker. IF those don't happen, we could be in for a bumpy ride.
But yeah, Sony got a lot of us in this thread to pony up the $160-$200 for the console. So I guess that's a good sign... |

They changed their minds on that.
Though I am wondering on how they plan to prevent people starting up alts just to send the startup Isk to themselves now that their is no cost to do so.
Perhaps they plan to tag the starting isk as none tradable? Some games do things like that. |

Iskonidas Yatumatu wrote:...Consoles are usually enjoyed in the presence of company, and if you die and pass off the controller, you don't care if the guy your giving it to gets the tank blown up...
While I definitely wouldn't have bought my PS3 due to Dust and am not into the game at all, you sir are wrong in the above statement. That's just one way consoles are enjoyed.
As for the topic, I picked up one of the old PS3's, (that'll play all PS games), a couple years back, off fleabay for a good price. (with a handful of games) As per my other thread, unfortunately I got as far as character creation in Dust & turned it off due to an inability to read on-screen text on a 25" non-HDTV. (which I find pretty lame)
Dust is a neat idea but I expect it'll ultimately fail. Also, all of you who picked up consoles & TV's etc. just for it, are insane little button monkeys! |

I'm considering buying a PS3 to play DUST 514. Although I keep getting put off from doing it by corpies who have played the beta and say its not very good. I still might take the plunge. Idk. *indecisive* |

After playing only a couple matches it is slightly underwhelming so far, graphics are nice and open world but could be more polished, I'm assuming its slightly under best quality because it was designed to handle 20+ player games all shooting and exploding, and interacting with another server at full speed. The skills and weapon selection and the customization is very nice but skills are just there to eventually get a weapon or tank or dropsuit to what it should be, so just put that carrot on the stick for everyone.... I am worried about the pay to play aspect that you can level your character faster if you pay for boosts, therefor directly influencing the fact that people who pay for the first months for boosts, will have a significant advantage as they will be higher level then everyone else if they play the same amount, and higher skills = more dmg and accuracy. I'm excited by what I see so far, it seems like an eve version of halo with some added things, and some nice changes. Also very worried that with the cost of gear people will camp way too much and only move in groups, I guess its more realistic because people don't want to die, and won't suicide rush as much which can be nice... we shall see, looking forward to a more polished version, more maps and more open environments, etc. Lastly the ability to use keyboard and mouse I think any pc game would agree is far better then the joystick controller, except for maybe some young kids brought up with one of those in their hands (that was pretty much me tho since the NES) so I don't know how I can compete with people who are using a mouse at home... debating whether to hook mine up and get to work or if I should try to learn how to be good with the joysticks... |

So 6 years after starting EVE, do you still feel "behind"? Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.
