I got it. Watch:
"The core principle is you are compensated some of the ISK cost needed to replace your ship. However that payment was based on static ship values decided at the launch of Eve...these supply sources and rates have changed over the years...(which) means you might end up getting more money than is really desired to the extreme of occasionally getting more than the replacement cost of the ship itself making death meaningless and going far beyond the intention of allowing you to pick yourself up again." |

Haha. Well I dont mission much these days, but I've never seen you in my missions, and I always pop the wrecks where there are ninjas about.
It's waaaay more fun to get them to zoom over to a wreck, only to then pop it :P Hey, if you're gonna lose the salvage anyway, might as well torment the ninjas in the process
*Edit - I actually *never* salvage O_O so half the time if you just waited til the mission was over, you'd get the wrecks without me popping them :) Or if you asked nicely. See, manners can get you ISK :) |

Confirming this is a moast excellent way to collect ninja tears in local, fiery evemails and yellowstone event volcanic eruption private convos where you can't even figure out wtf he is saying past the endless stream of naughty uncomplimentary words about your questionable parentage and sexual orientation. Its especially fun when they follow you to the last room if you an egg them on and let them finally collect aggro then pop them and dock then go make a cuppa as the aggro timer runs out. Delicious.

Nah nothing really changes, we will make the simple downgrade from solo ganking hulks with battleships to ganking with 1-3 people in thoraxes or 3-6 people in catalysts or thrashers both alternatives cost next to nothing for most of us.
And for ganking haulers the loot drop should more than cover the cost of a battleship/battlecruiser.
If anything I anticipate more carebear tears when they wrongly assume that ganking has been nerfed and let their guard down. PRAISE THE SCOTTISH FOLD!!

Currently they get 40% of mineral cost when they pop. Post patch they are looking from anywhere as low as 1% to 10%.

The funny thing here is that carebears assume this will stop gankers, or even slow them down, when the proposed changes will have negligible effects on suicide gankers. Remove the artificial floors on mineral prices and they're going to go down, no ifs about it. As it stands, if insurance were, for example, to only cover half the cost of a ship, it would still only cost about 25mil to suicide a geddon, and most people who lose ships to suicide gankers are carrying more than that anyway. Seriously that blog made me lol, because it seems to me that CCP thinks these changes will help miners, when effectively removing the artificial minimum price currently set in place by insurance is going to completely screw them over, mission loot nerf or not.
To put it simply: the only people who will be negatively affected by these changes are miners and people who assume that they're less likely to get ganked because of the changes. |

The mission loot nerf will resurrect T1 manufacturing as the prices will go up due to the sudden scarcity.
All savvy missioners will be stashing their T1 (Meta 0) items in anticipation of this huge market turnaround.
Since the majority of forum readers eyes glaze over when reading the word "insurance", this valuable insight is for those few who can look at the future and plan accordingly.

The thing is...
The insurance price floor was also, in effect, a -ship- price floor. The equilibrium price of ships could never drop below the expected insurance payout value (because if it did, people would buy ships and blow them up until the price rose again). That's what resulted in a mineral price floor in the first place, after all - the value of a basket of minerals could not drop to an equilibrium price below what is needed to build a ship and destroy it for the insurance payout.
If we have insurance pegged to the mineral market, and the price of minerals drop... the price of ships can drop too. So the conversion to free-floating insurance values won't really change the situation for inexpensive, small T1 ships, except that they'll be even cheaper.
The real change is going to be the monkeying with the expected payout value by ship class. Saying "we're going to encourage people to fly the smaller ship classes with a higher insurance payout" can easily be taken to mean "battleship insurance payouts are getting a nerf bat". Which means that even less-expensive battleships aren't going to be suitable for suicide ganking, except as an occasional what-the-hell from a filthy-rich veteran. (And yes, you CAN gank in things smaller than battleships... but they have significantly less alpha strike potential, meaning that Jita-ganking is going to get a lot tougher. And replacing one battleship ganker with a few BC gankers will still result in fewer total ganks, because each ganker will take the sec status hit for every gank...)
The other question is going to be what the loot distribution changes will do to the T1 market. TONS of new opportunities for manufacturing and marketing T1 loot...

It's not going to affect suiciding. I'm sure I'm not the only one that buys a bpc then makes the gank ship(s), which gets me free money, since I don't pay for the minerals. Even with reduced minerals from reprocessing it will still be economically viable to suicide.

Something that I wasn't expecting in this thread... Someone else who thinks opportunity cost in a game matters... Clue: Opportunity cost doesn't count, because its a game... I.E.: If I get X2 amount of minerals from missioning w/a bunch of friends, I've had fun with the friends, made bounties, mission rewards and have loot to reprocess...
Fun > Opportunity cost = free minerals.
This is why people sell minerals/mods for less than market value, because not everyone takes the market seriously, and figures that the fun had doing things with friends in a game is the whole point...

Who cares about opportunity cost? The point is, if you are going to mine the minerals, then build the ship thinking the ship is now free... You are better off mining the minerals, selling the minerals and buying the ship (reducing manufacturing time to essentially 0) then continuing on as normal. I'm not sure why this guy would bother building the ships, though I understand mining yourself to avoid needing to have and/or spend the startup capital to buy the ship outright.

I love how everything thinks they know exactly what will happen. That includes people who are saying HURRAY NO MOAR PIWATES SUICIDE GANKING MA HULKS!!!!ONEONE, and those who are saying LOL STFU NOOB DONT U KNOW TEH MARKETS IT WONT CHANGE ANYTHING!!! LOLOLOL!!ONE. Truth is, nobody knows the real, *true* price of minerals (besides maybe Akita). So you don't know which one of these outcomes will happen. Stop being dumb.
The dev blog was a bit ambiguous, but I think t1 ship insurance will pay out 100% of market value. Assuming insurance still costs 30% of base (or market in this case) cost, the era of free ships are over.
