Meissa Anunthiel wrote:To people who are angry about lack of "meat" in this devblog, let me just say a few things. As a player, I want to know what's being worked on, and not just a "it's going to be ok" kind of statement (like I trust CCP to do things right ). As a member of the CSM, I want to know what's going to be worked on as soon as it is talked about so I can give feedback before considerable effort is spent on something that's not going to solve our issues. Those two things are what I'm unsatisfied about in this blog. However, that being said... CCP has had several problems in the past, the most notable of which has been a severe issue with direction of development. Planetary Interactions? InCarna? Both decent ideas too many resources have been put into without any satisfying roadmap or expectation of positive result. It's been mostly wishful thinking and the product of what we refer to as "team awesome". CCP is currently taking a big step back from the crap and forward in the right direction. Following the forum rage, the dismal reception of incarna, the subscriber loss, they're effectively saying "let's refocus on what our customer want". That's quite big, and I can't fault CCP for taking a bit of time to figure out exactly in which direction that step should be taken. Which leads me to the 2nd point. Having seen the way plans are made, I know CCP usually plans for more things that eventually make it to the release. Some of it is bad evaluation of resources needed to complete a task, some of it is the result of too high standards (lol art department), some of it makes sense as you want to overplan so if something goes faster than expected, you know what to spend your resources on. Historically, whenever CCP has published a plan, instead of taking things with a grain of salt and being happy for the part that eventually made it in, people have reacted negatively to the things that *didn't* make it in. In that sense CCP Zulu's stance to underpromise and overdeliver makes a lot of sense. The scope of the change is really huge, he said it, I say it. And CCP better be darn sure that what they're telling us is coming will actually be delivered (*wink* *wink*). If anything, this blog ensures that the next ones, the ones with the meat, have to show something we care about, because if it doesn't not only will we be facepalming at the content, we'll be raging at CCP's inability to comprehend what it is we want, despite the amount of feedback provided on the forums and through the CSM. So I'll be repeating what I said in the other thread. If they have to take 2 more weeks to figure out how to do things right, they should do just that, because at this stage promising something and failing to deliver it would be the worst move for this game. We have another meeting with Zulu today, and what I'll be saying in essence is this: - don't bring us shiny worthless **** that won't fix anything - if you want to introduce new shiny, do it in a way that fixes existing problems (new shiny modular POSes, engaging sov mechanics, bounty/sec system revamp, use lowsec improvements to fix the "Crimewatch" system, etc.) So, is this blog a missed opportunity for positive announcement, yes. Do we need more information than vague statements, absolutely. Is CCP's changing direction to go towards what we want a bad thing? Hell no! That change is happening, we'll just focus on making sure it happens in the right direction. Rage about the right things.
Well spoken, absolutely true, totally agree! You got my voice on next election.
+ I read something about space enlargement, wow best idea I ever heared, would bring us back some of the feeling in 2003-2006. Space is to crowded these days |

Wait and see.
We are put in a position of weakness where we are the one expecting when the magical anticrap patch will be deployed. If his claims are genuine, will he have enough ressources allocated by the very responsible of this mess? If ressources are allocated, how long until the patch is deployed? Soon tm again?
I canceled accounts and stop paying with real money. October is near and it is interesting financial times indeed. Now this blog, sorry i pay for features, not promises. Only when the patch is deployed AND is not crippled by bugs I will pay 3 accounts with real money. If enough people do the same it will multiply the pressure.
Hurry up the clock is ticking but the pressure is not on my side. |

I disagree; the EVE community is in a position of strength.
I say this because if CCP fails to convince the community, then we know where the unsub button is. Mittens called it a blunt instrument, and that it is, but that blunt instrument wields the ultimate authority here. |

CCP, just remember that all the negative talk will vanish if and when you deliver what you vaguely promised. Just look at the reactions to the recent "fixing some things and moving forward" blog.So don't be sad because so many people don't trust your words right now, but rather just do the work and then reap the earned praise |

We the community are doing a great job of trying to change CCP. Here is a newsletter to help keep our spirits up and keep us on track.
We live in interesting times; in fact we are the kind of subscribers that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this past summer. First off we have Incarna, an egregious technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago turned to piffle that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolled out without content, and in some cases crappier than what CCP had before, this is the pinnacle of professional balderdash. For all the trolling and whining in the forums we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.
But we have done more, not only have we redefined the trolling and whining quality one can apply to mmorpg companies with the beautiful Incarna riots but we have also defined what it really means to bring virtual reality creators to their knees .
Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few months ago we stopped the gold scorpion and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as subscribers by redefining assumptions. After one summer we have canceled tens of thousands of accounts, generating more fear and stained underwear than any of the other riots/threadnaughts in EVE.
This we have done after months of canceling accounts by a group of highly angry subscribers. We have communicated our intention here, failheap, IRC and other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this since EverQuest, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what CCP does and less of what they say. Breaking through to rancid ram ball munching drug addicted alcoholics takes time and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.
We went out with a decisive strategy on trolling and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through trolling and canceling accounts.
All that said, I couldn+óGé¼Gäót be prouder of what we have accomplished as a community, changing CCP is hard and we are doing it! Stay the course, we have done this many times before. |

Quote: The result of this is a refocusing and reprioritization on a scale unheard of within our company.
This is a statement that is almost certainly a lie, the amount of resources you are reallocating to back spaceships cannot be larger then the amount you allocated away from it or brought in to work purely on non-FiS stuff.
In your infamous 18 months blog the totals were as follows:
FiS: 22 developers Incarna: 70 developers DUST: 7 developers EVE Gate: 10 developers Misc.: 15 developers of which I'll consider 10 to be working on FiS
So that comes to 32 FiS/ 92 non-FiS or 26%/74%
I look forward to the next overview with hard numbers where more then 74% of developers are working on FiS in which case I'll gracefully apologize for calling your statement a lie.

We know how passionate you all are about EVE and I promise that we are working towards delivering top notch FiS content over the coming months. I vote that Navigator get Zulu's job.... In an instant, CCP would gain a lot of credibility back in my eyes.

Spaceships is what I'm referring to as focus. So we can take this as a commitment that there will be more people working on FiS than worked on Apocrypha, otherwise the so called rabble brigade would have some justification in their opinions and you wouldn't have the gumption to follow up lying to them with an insult. |

None of it matters much or deals with the major complaints we have had.As for a new focus from CCP? Excuse me while i step around that new pile of bullcookies. When i see new t3 ships and see the aur system along will all the space babrie clothing removed then i will believe that CCP has gotten back to business.Otherwise this is all nothing but CCP trying to figure out how they are going to inject the rest of the crap into the game without losing another 30% if its player base before christmass. |

I for one am pretty pleased with the devblog
Yes there are no definitive plans or announcements made and its sparse in detail, but for me that's not as important as the overall change of tone and fact that CCP is saying they are listening to feedback and are refocusing their efforts to try and give us what we want. That surely has to be a good thing.

that is just like when a new mmo comes out and everyone who plays the beta says "it has potential". if someone says a new mmo has potential that usually means the idea behind this game sounds nice but atm its a unfinished, buged piece software and will fail if it is released in this state.
if ccp say something that is somehow linked with the word "promise", that can usually translated in to "blablabla". |

EVE has some of the most cynical, scheming and suspicious players in all of gamerdom.
EVE - and occasionally CCP - made them that way. (or certainly helped, in any event)
And yet it appears CCP is continually surprised by the biteback from vague, buzzwordy and desperately optimistic announcements...
Look, everyone wants action over words, but words will always have to come first because that's just the nature of how things work. Why are you guys so naively bad at it?
CCP really needs to hire some PR people to help manage their messaging.
Perhaps those monocle sales can help pay for them? |

Just a suggestion for CCP Z. Please do not post or blog again until you have something to say with substance about what you are doing. I was expecting a lot more detail.
I would like you to spend resources primarily on fixing current FIS features and not on new exploding planets or flashy graphics. Balance (Hybrid guns), UE improvements, industry all need attention. Exploding planets sounds like you are thinking about DUST and not EVE.
