I'm very much of a believer in the idea that the forums are "the vocal minority and rabble brigade" but anyhow, just have to let this out.
CCP Zulu, even if you believe that there's too much rabble, you really shouldn't say anything like that to any customers... that's customer service 101.
Customer is always right, it's the companys job to find out what people really want statistically, then make an educated decision on how to deliver best value and then move forward with production and implementation.
Of course you need to communicate with the customers but please do so professionally (The customer community can't be expected to do that, because well... it's internet spaceships, everyone is an individual).
To finish off, I liked the blog and I still trust you CCP! Just remember the devil is in the small things like this thread. If any of my fellow capsuleers agree, please sound off! |

I haven't read the responses yet, I will when I get home, but I just wanted to stop by and say that this sounds pretty sweet. My excitement is tempered a bit by CCP's track record, and the lack of information as to what exactly these changes are and what they will mean for the future. However, if that dev blog is evidence of what is to come, then I'm very hopeful.

Yup.
It's irony he posted that after what I posted previously:
Misanth wrote:Hey Zulu, if you want to build up expectations, you should work for another company.
A brief blog that is supposed to leave the mouth watering only works for companies you trust, and big titles. Like, if Blizzard would've done this pre-Star Craft 2, Diablo 3, or we'd get our hopes up for another Deus Ex, etc. Unfortunately, CCP has wasted all player trust they once had, and all so-called mouth watering content you talk abut (like WiS, 2006) etc, just turns out to take you 5year+ to release and leave a bitter taste of something incomplete and far from cutting edge.
I love this game, but for the last five years I have consistently told you guys to hire a communications director. Someone that know how to communicate with players, press, and know how to release your vital information. You guys are horrible at this, and as good a game platform you have built, as bad are you with dialogue with your players.
Quite possible the worst blog you guys have released in years. Hilmar, Zulu, Soundwave: We care about our hobby. Do you care about your jobs? |

So we can expect the rest of the CQ's? Walking in stations? that smuggling mechanic you talked about giving purpose to walking in stations (i think they said they were doing that)? Oh plus the myriad of other things you should have done FIRST like Super cap balancing, Gallente/hybrid Balancing, work on 0.0, getting those new ship models in-game (you know from that create an eve ship event you apparently wasted all those artist times on) Theres more but there also lots of threads on it.
Incarna could have been a great expansion if you involved some of the major player concerns with it. But besides bug fixes (that you introduced) and a market API functionality what have you been doing for the last 4-6 months? |

You see, the thing is, since Apocrypha, this game has gone sideways, not forward. Show us code, don't even waste time posting blogs or even reading the forums. I would be disappointed at being read.
Focus on what matters. You guys seem to want to hug the world and it's just not clever. Remember the 20/80 rule: deliver 20% of the top requests players want and you have 80% of customers satisfied.

Oh that is really delicious, I dont think I have seen such a perfect example of the arrogance and hubris that has put CCP in the position they find themselves.
Your company is going down the tubes as your customer base is leaving in droves, you fail to address their concerns with yet another non blog and then proceed to insult them further in just one thread. Are you secretly working for Blizzard?
I do hope the CSM is taking you to task over comments like this to the community you dismiss as rabble(a folorn hope probably).
You may think that was kewl internet humour, yet I wonder if you will find it funny when the banks start forclosing on your mortgage and your asking people if they want fries with that burger? |

rab-+ble 1 (rbl) n. 1. A tumultuous crowd; a mob. 2. The lowest or coarsest class of people. Often used with the. 3. A group of persons regarded with contempt
It's generally not a good move to describe your customers with contempt; but no doubt you were looking to be ironic?
Personally I'm not affronted. I regard EVEs current development with a good degree of sadness and disappointment at the potential lost and how far CCP chose to move away from its fan base.
Perhaps you guys at CCP can recover but you should recognise that you face a near insurmountable challenge.

I find a lot of people including myself are bored with eve. This is due to the fact that some ships are stronger then others, or more to the point UNBALANCED.
An example:
My alliance like many others, have been forced to move to npc space, as the NC. and its buddies continue to drop 100's of super caps/titans every chance they get.
I believe that all the races in eve need to be rebalanced, a few good examples:
I find that gallente ewar is a joke (the long point is the only thing going for them)
The armor tanking races need a armor rep booster of some kind, as 1 capital shield booster fit with 2 amps fit properly can repair 50-100% more then 3 capital armor repairers on a armor tanked capital.
The dps from caldari sub caps do not compare with the other races, this should be fixed, possibly by either increasing overall damage, or returning the splash damage feature to them.
Blasters though an interesting and unique feature, need a option for longer optimal/falloffs as they cannot be used effectively in every day engagements, and the railguns need a better dps/ tracking comparable to the amarr.
Another change I would like to see is how sovereignty is taken. It would be very interesting if the only cap that could shoot Sov structures effectively, were dreads. At this point, dreads are sitting around collecting dust, due to the over powered supercarriers replacing them.
At this time it takes a sub cap fleet 2+ hours with 100 strong, to re-enforce/knock down 1 ihub, it takes 3-4 moms 10 mins to cut though sov structures, This is unacceptable.
Mothers ships on one hand need to be nerfed because the only counter at this point to a blob (30+) of moms would be another blob of moms, as sub cap fleets take forever to kill them.
On another hand, Moms are expensive and should play a crucial role in fleets, there ability to use projected ECM and immunity to ewar however, are the very reason they are considered overpowered.
Besides rebalancing, improving the interface by changing the local/corp/allaince/fleet/overview windows so they don't take up half the screen would be incredible, i find there are too many windows.
filtering the local chat windows so you can see only neuts/reds would be useful as well.
Changing the the corp roles checkmarks into BIG buttons that turn green/blue or red when clicked would be awesome, also simplifying the way roles work would be great.
Being able to assemble/anchor pos structures with more then 1 person to speed up the time would be awesome.
Its the little things that make or break people, if you want people to start logging in every day, playing the game and having fun, give them what they need. Give them ships that are strong no matter what race they fly, give them ships that are effective against regular ships & super caps. If you give them hope, they will play.
if not...people will stop paying...and eventually playing altogether. |

3 Things comes to my mind when thinking about CCP publicly posted decisions of late, this without any company insight what so ever.
1. Fix What you got and improve on that, fixing bugs, adding new features, rebalancing, designs, performance, unbalance stuff. (yes unbalancing stuff is a great tool used properly and moderately for revigorating gameplay)
2. Flashyness only works once after that its only decor. Granted most people prefer a good decor, but they will probably choose depth and content over decor any day of the week.
3. The PR and Economy departments are tools, same as Development and Quality Assurance, unbalance them at your own peril. |

I don't understand why there are so many negative comments on this thread.
From the point of view of a carebear: Personally I wanted more Walk in Station updates, sure, its only decor for now, but it will be part of our experience if it allows us to meet eachother in our 3D figures, that itself will be a good player motivation. If they didn't put in their best effort to finish this part of the EVE Online, I'd call that half arsed and quit. To me EVE world and space feels too dry harsh to keep staying unless you are a bunch of PvP barbarians.
Also, look at all the other MMO in the market, EVE online and CCP is the only one besides WoW that actually listens to the community, so stop beating them with a baseball bat. |

The main reason people are giving CCP a bad rap, would be due to the reason that this thread did not mention what changes they were going to make.
Also some are a little upset that there forum posts regarding needed changes have gone unanswered by the devs, some might feel that CCP DEVs do not care what is posted in the forums, or what people think, so if you were wondering why the hostility, that is why. |

CCP Navigator wrote: Spaceships are all the rage right now, seriously, watch this space.
Call me unimpressed. Been watching this space and seen jack **** as far as information or any thing besides an attempt to build hype.
We have a dev blog that claims to be one of "The moments that define history" and it only refers to a previously published blog where CCP undoes a change that negatively affected game functionality and lets players know that they are thinking of changing the font that people have complained about as illegible for over 7 years. That isn't a definition of the history of EVE or the history of CCP as a company that I would want to highlight. Especially when players are displeased and have stopped playing.
I used to be able to log into my corporation and see more than 20 people in corp chat. I couldn't recall ever being the only person in corp chat. Now that routinely happens. I'm trying a few things in EVE that I hadn't before, like COSMOS, etc. that might rekindle my own interest to log into this game, but I keep hitting things that were left unfixed, broken, or unexciting.
I have found that if I take the graduation certificate missions to the end, the last mission will tell me to speak with an agent that doesn't even exist outside of the database dump. This agent followup has not been finished for 5 years apparently.
I have come across level 3 COSMOS missions that don't give a standings increase or a reward greater than a few thousand isk. Joy.
I get to see people in an NPC corp that put a rattlesnake in a high sec plex with their sentries 50 km out, and walk away to milk the ISK all day long as the enemy battleships keep respawning and providing them with Risk free $ all day long.
Speaking of which, the fact that people get 3 strikes before they are banned for running bots still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. If you warn them once and they knowingly do so a second time, do they really deserve a third attempt? Is CCP really that willing to put the desire for $15/month that far ahead of the stability of the much vaunted player driven market?
When you say "Ships" are you planning on balancing motherships or black ops? finding ways to get people to fly them into low sec? making t3 frigates? looking at e-war frigs? looking at the 4th bonus for assault ships? making a ship for gas harvesting? or just trolling?
This game is dying the death of a thousand little cuts. Nothing is so horrible by itself that players can't ignore or brush it off. People are always willing to forgive a few minor things: we don't expect perfection, but we do expect to see improvement. However, as of late, there hasn't been much improvement and the little cuts have begun to drain away this game's vitality. Tell us what you are going to fix, stop rephrasing that trademark "Big things are happening Soon," and maybe people might want to play. |
