I have been looking at the killboards for some time now and wonder what is happening with the mentioned conflict.
Why is it that the Caldari keep losing larger battles time after time? I know the Caldari are good at killing ISK rather than ships (eg. killing more expensive ships), but somehow when bigger encounters occur the Caldari get overwhelmed most of the times. Is it a matter of bad FC'ing, bad tactics overall, bad Caldari ships (someone once told me the side with most Caracals loses ) or is it something else?
I'd like to know this as I am considering letting my main (surprise this isn't ) enter a FW-corp (player corp) on the Caldari side, or join the Amarr-militia.

Couple of things, mostly to do with bad pilots, the occasional bad FC, and spais.
CalMil has a lot of new players, without much ISK and with bad fitting skills, so you see a lot of bad and/or T1-only fits. Also a lot of the new pilots don't have much experience PvP'ing, and often have trouble with following FC's orders (and a lot of the more experienced pilots may ignore a bad, weak or slow FC's orders, myself included sometimes ).
Meanwhile they're up against the Gallente Militia, who have a lot of very skilled pilots (especially in corps like Qcats, Bi-Polar, etc) and FCs, and you'll find the average Gallente pilot's loss will be mostly rigged and T2 fit. The pirate corps in the area are similar.
And spies can often be a problem, although not always as much as would be implied in militia chat. They're sometimes very obvious (How do they know where we're warping when there are no WTs in system?), but even the subtle ones can be a major pain in the ass.
TL;DR Gallente have more SP, more ISK, more experience and they're more willing to get into fights.

So, what can be done about it? Do people need to stand up and take the rookies under their mighty wings? Should Caldari resort to other tactics (say more guerrilla-warfare) and forget about big-fleet encounters. Because it seems that when the fleets are smaller the Caldari tend to be equal opponents.
Ofcourse with your comment in mind I think it is fair to say that the smaller (deadlier) squads are mostly led by FW-corps like Four Horseman, Pillow Fighters and/or Inglorious Bastards.
Anyone think it is possible to turn the tide, or even up the score?

The score will even up, eventually. Faction War has a pendulum that swings one way or another. 9 months ago, Caldari were well and truely on top, and the roles were reversed (although Caldari have always had more newbies and mission alts).
The biggest problem is the lack of organisation. It's slowly been getting better over the last month, and in a lot of ways it's like herding cats, but the one biggest thing the Gallente have over us (or at least, the main Gallie FW corps) is organisation.
Then again, I'm not entirely sure how skewed my point of view is. Mostly we've been coming up against people like QCats, Bi-Polar, NME1, etc, who tend to operate separate from most of the rest of Gallente Militia, while I'm in State Pro, so don't really have a whole lot to do with the main Caldari FW corps (Inglorious, Pillow Fighters, etc), who do a similar thing on our side. I know corps like IGB and P-INC usually have fairly good luck with their corp roams, mainly because that is where most of the skilled PvP pilots are drawn to, leaving State Pro for the scrubs and surly FW pilots who remember the good ol' days before the Mass Exodus post-Dominion.
Training would help with the people who want to learn, but it can be very hard to get without joining a corp, and a lot of corps don't want to take applicants who haven't demonstrated some PvP ability (Not to mention the spai threat). And then you have people who won't listen, no matter how many times you say something to them...

Tbh things have started to even themselves out a little bit at the moment, both sides bringing reasonable sized fleets out and still quite a few wolfpack gangs around too.
There's been a bit of a resurgence with our general militia fleets too and some good teamwork recently between people, so from our perspective things look fairly good.
Had a great scrap last night in eugales (50 v 50 ish) similar size ships and both sides just going for it - great fun and more of the same please.

Yes, congratulations on being one corporation that can do stuff in Caldari fleet warfare. And the Gallente have...how many? More than one.
The problem is that while Caldari can gang up and kill a solo ship, once a gang of similar numbers and ship types warp in, it's suddenly pandemonium. It's not so much that the players are new, though admittedly it's a huge inconvenience for many an FC, but rather that the FCs get flustered. Everyone relies on the Overview to dictate primaries and kill order, and as such when a giant wave of blinky-orange shows up, it's difficult to determine who to primary.
Then there's the fit issue. Once again, it's not that people can't find the ISK to fit their ships. I am able to fit my interceptors and Drakes with plenty of expensive modules and not break a sweat. It's people don't want to spend ISK on Meta-level 3 and 4 items. They expect to lose, so they fit to lose the least amount of ISK. The improvements made in the higher meta levels can make or break a fleet, but Caldari don't want to risk it.
Along with the above issue, fleet commanders don' want to leave Tama. As such, if the Gallente jump to Kedama or Sujarento, FCs tell the fleet to turn back. Camp the Nourv gate, whatever.
You know what, I'll put this out there. I will give classes to Caldari pilots - if they want - on combat theory. I won't involve prac-ap (practical application) as I'm not going to be an FC. However, knowing combat strategies is always a plus. While it's not a substitute for gut instinct and actual engagements, the knowledge is useful. Contact me on Aiden Vorlan or Quendishir if you're interested.

omg Aiden are u still butthrut you r not in the club? Actually Gals have 3-4 really good corps and Cali has 3-4 really good corps. Just check killboards. But please do not check your records because you have number of kills which allows to fly frigate and will not give you the access right into proper hanger in IBS academy. Cut the theorycraft once and for all to make our lives less miserable.

You would be assuming I want to be part of the Faildari militia club[s].
And if it wasn't for theorycrafting, you wouldn't have this game. When you decide to actually do your research, you may talk back to me. Until then, your ass can be on KP duty.

Reading a blithering idiot like Snake post on a regular basis leads me to believe that there is very little in the way of brains on the Caldari side of the war.
The resources are there, the players are cowards, the FC's... are mostly tools like Snake, so there's some potential, but it's overwhelmed by the sea of failure.

A lot of the time they just don't seem like they've got their **** together properly to be honest.
In "big fights" you often see dumb stuff like them trying to run and leaving stragglers to die (the battle reports would be less lopsided if they'd stay and fight) or not following primary.
I also think this reluctance to engage without numerical or weight advantage on the part of some FCs hurts them a lot and stops them getting better. If you only ever do ganks you get very lazy.
And yeah, the ****fits don't help either. It's not that calamari hulls are bad. The drake is a great hull. Caracals soundly bugger thoraxes when deployed properly (ask the PERVs how). But often these are fit pretty badly and those performance drops for T1 **** on each ship add up.
It's improving to be fair. Some good FCs have come back and this CDI thing seems to be leading to better organisation.

Why anyone would ever want to FC a general Militia fleet is beyond me. It's one thing if you know the other guys have a clue. However when you have to spend more time fixing people ships and explaining everything to them than fighting.
Well it's no wonder no one wants to do it and those that due typically aren't very good at it. Other wise they would be FC's for good corps/alliances.

To answer the OP's question, the Caldari are only losing the "big" fleets right now because they lack the organized numbers. The CDI guys (IBS in particular) are fielding some mean and well organized fleets lately.
Sooner or later the Caldari will get the general militia organized and once they do they have the raw numbers to swing the pendulum back in their favor.
Go ahead and join a Caldari FW corp. They are improving drastically.

to all victors and aidens (and other buthurts).... come and show us ur skills .... we in CDI (and other corps who are really fighting) are such a band of loosers which nobody wants to join, that we have to stop recruiting for 5 days now as my director was not able to handle all questionaires and applications. and yeah it was not good last month so we did not pass 1000 kill per month (only 700+).
So u warfare and organization theory masters please join caldari militia and I challenge u in simple race. In 5 months you have to create 3 -4 corps alliance which will be in top 5 every month (not pieing, 75% must be gals or miniturds).
The other option is to create single 40+ man corp who will beat us in kills in 4 months row.
From the scratch.
Price will be agreed on (carrrier?), but if u will win u have ur price already. Just convo me in game and show me ur balls. Even if it will be just artificial spawn corp it will help our cause.
To annie ... Well we never liked each other (omg such a r.e.t@rd we use). So no need to spitt bites over ur corpse.

tl;dr of replies thus far:
Caldari is recovering post-exodus, still behind the gallente as most of 'em have been working together for about a year or more now, and have already skilled into what they need.
Caldari getting more organized, lots of drama on both sides (mostly caldari, woot), and snake still hates me \o |

IMO, it's a near-permanent failcascade. Most Gallente corps are in it for the long haul and won't bail on FW like FOOM and Mitchfleet did over a year ago (and Wolfy in the last year). Even then many FOOM and Mitchfleet members have returned to other FW corps.
Old Caldari FW corps (or their individual members) will need to re-join their militia at a higher rate than they have been for them to have a chance at regaining the edge they had last summer. These things run in cycles, but for the most part I get the feeling that Federation pilots enjoy FW more than Caldari pilots. We'll see.

Re-subbed a while back and returned to minni militia. I was 'surprised', it seems that there're way to much of paranoya and :effort: (noone), and too little of 'blow ships, die in fire, repeat'. A year back there was some good action, but no more.
Could anyone from Gallente militia tell me, is it better to join some militia corp or to join only npc militia corp is allright too? Asking because I may unsub/resub/be busy to play for some time, or I may want not to pay taxes /get bored and will do some nullsec ninja stuff.
