Having been playing Incarna like features in Space MMOÆs for around 10 years I donÆt really see what all the fuss is about Incarna. More so as Incarna is just a cut down version of what other space MMOÆs do.
ItÆs not fresh, unique or a new feature but rather a average feature thatÆs uninteresting due to being done so much and like I said before a cut down version at that.ItÆs going be nice to have but nothing special.

unless there's a good purpose for walking around staions, it's just another gimmick that will probably be buggy and include a few patches, database errors, hard drive bloat and shiny new station interior lag.
after playing earth and beyond way back when, i realized that walking around with an avatar isn't all it's cracked up to be.
i'd still rather have fixes and iteration over new features.

I suspect the character models are for Incarna / Dust / WoD, that "cloth" demo looked very much like WoD and a lot of the hi-tech art assets are going to be used in Dust / Incarna. Though which game demands so many shots of latex bodysuits is probably only fully known by CCP.

There can be benefits but only if CCP do a decent job like other space MMOÆs. Like being able to walk around your ship, invite people to your ship for meetings, have medals on show. Or better yet do what another MMO lets you do, fight around the ships corridors and rooms. Fight your way to the bridge or to the engine rooms or fight to free a person in the brig.
Imagine a level 4 mission where you have to save the damsel. After disabling the last enemy ship in space combat you board the ship and have to walk around and fight your way to the damsel to recuse her. But Incarna seems to skipping all the better parts of walking around that other space MMOÆs let you do. So no fun stuff like that.
Or for PvP you have some friends in a shuttle that launch from our ship and board the enemy ship to disable the engines or shields. There could be lots of uses for walking if only CCP would but the effect in and do what the other space MMOÆs have done.

I heard roumour that that's how starwars online started then they nerfed it to all hell because people whined it was too hard or some such rubbish and went for the quick buck rather than the long game.

It is probably common in Atlas that pod pilots associate to gate camps and autopilot if the topic is pixel boobs. Even if you were right (you are not) and there gate camps everywhere all the time and all the ships were automatically routed to a mysterious distant destination with the autopilot, most people would simply just dock or cloak to avoid all those deadly scenarios you mentioned.
Also I can accept if the only joy in your life is to take down a titan and stuff like that, but I think that your magnificent achievements should not qualify you over me. Personally, I would like to have pixel boobs and stare them all day long and be happy with them. If meanwhile you blow up the universe to make yourself think you are a cool 1337pr0, that is fine by me. But see me: I am not opening *****ing threads about telling how wrong your opinion is. Probably you could have a life too.

I still don't see what all the benefits will be with Incarna. Maybe it's because I've never played any other MMO.
I only joined EVE because it was a spaceship game focused on spaceship combat. Yes, there was market PvP, but the main focus was always that you were a spaceship pilot hired by others to do violence against other spaceships. Now CCP seems to be turning it into every other MMO instead of remaining the cool unique game it always has been. Adding all these extraneous features doesn't improve the base game, it simply adds new unnecessary crap to the existing base.
I don't want the "WOW in space stations" Incarna. I want EVE, only better. My spaceship game doesn't need beautiful 3-D avatars, it needs more beautiful 3-D spaceships.
