But hey thats me.
Banning anyone for voicing their own opinion is a terrible thing to do. People pay for this game and have a right to complain about it not working. If you do not like reading people complaining perhaps you should remove yourself from the forums. Freedom of speech is a very basic right.
You do have a very good point. a good % of people on here would have been banned and that's a godo chunk of money out of CCP's pocket. The way I see it yes they work to get it up and running but when things take longer then they say it will at first. They should say it will take about 2 to 3 hours. It makes it even worse with the DT is 3+ hours. I work 12 hours a day on my feet lifting and moving heavy things. Yes I enjoy playing this game but $16/month to play a game that I work hard for I would like to see them try to get their things right and together so that they don't have these DT. Them not having things done right when they do testing makes me think that they might think about not doing any testing. If they want to do testing maybe they should have a testing server built just like the main server. Eve has been around for how long? the server hits around 50k every day when I log on do the math that's around $750,000 per month plus unknown amount of PLEXs that people have bought that haven't been used yet. With thoes numbers yes we do have a right to complain that they don't have things setup right for the amount of money that is going into their pocket. They should work on getting the testing version as close as to the full version is going to be so that they aren't going to have these kind of DT.
Yay and yet a longer delay in the server start up time 18:00.
Now I'm realy hoping they give us SP for the long un-expected DT.

ok lets face it updates and upgrades are a necessary evil. i have played this game for years now to many to count and this seems to happen more and more frequently. the game seems to encounter more bugs than i can keep up with. but i love eve and its community so i endure. its been a known fact since the early days that when such a patch is announced you prepare with a long training que. however that does nothing to compensate the players for lost game play. in a virtual community as in real life players should be compensated for lost game play time. i suggest ccp work out a general hourly isk potential for players to compensate for lost game time. i don't believe this is far fetched especially since ccp has tightened the isk potential belt in the game in the last year. players a working harder and harder to make isk in game today so the impact of these down times is far greater.
that bieng said im sure it is the hope of every eve player that one day these downtimes are minimized and less frequent but for today we live with the system we have at hand.

Originally by: Cifese Can you imagine the staff turnover when the team is told - gee guys, you have to get up at 8:00pm for the next 3 months, and work a graveyard shift, so our customers will stop whining, then in 3 months get up at 3:00 am and work the early shift, then in 3 months a regular day shift, then in 3 months a swing shift. You schedule daily activity in the middle of the night, then change it to the middle of the day, then change it to the early morning, and do this with YOUR LIFE for a year and talk about the timing of downtime.
this is *exactly* how our company's NOC works....new rotating schedule every 90 days in a 24/7/365 office...
in the 3 years i've been with the company, only 2 people have resigned from our department, and it was because they were offered much better compensation packages with other companies...
80% of our staff 15 or so staff, are 2+ year employees...the stragglers are new hires...
so yeah....not a very accurate analogy ;)

So you work different shifts every quarter? And this was thrust upon you and your 14 coworkers by your employer after having been working a day-shift only for oh, say seven years? And nobody left because they had a family and a life, and didn't want to screw all that around?
I'm calling bull.
You work in a NOC, probably as support, and when you got hired the place probably already operated 24/7 with various shifts. People are suggesting moving daily downtime to other timezones, rotating throughout the world. I'm saying that MAKING that change will cause turnover.
I'm going to guess that no-one (or maybe 1-2 people) who works with you might remember a time where your operation was 8/5.
CCP doesn't run daily downtime with the night shift because if there is an issue they have to call in the cavalry - which is their dayshift employees. (please avoid snide comments about the cavalry - unless of course you work on one of the largest server clusters in the world). The suggestion to rotate downtime is basically the suggestion to tell the day shift that they are now a rotating shift, every three months or so, to a new schedule. I'm saying from experience (of drastic schedule changes for folks who lived an 8-5 job) that that would cause a lot of turnover.
bah. i've been trolled into writing too much...

Perhaps a substantive update should always be a 24hour shutdown everybody inconvenienced the same.
And plenty of warning all over the login screens I see adverts for eon but only noticed the extended downtime by chance.
it is after all the uncertainty and change that cause the tears
(mini rant .. I had the afternoon off and nothing better to do than play and now I have lost the 50million I could have earned till now booo hooo)
Ok I feel better now ... Actually I love coming to see the rant thread EVERY time there is an update

FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL.
CCP you hands down are a ton of ******ed monkeys.
How is it that EVERY PATCH you do you F up, with a public test server to boot?
EXPLAIN?
Really just have patch days be days, just tell everyone it will be DT to DT pretty much more correct.

This
But I don't mind because the pure fail of the community in this thread is way more fun than the game.
Your all like crack addicts jonesing for a fix. i wouldn't be surprised if CCP are just sitting there watching this with there finger on the "go button" I wouldn't blame them either. |
