A little explanation...
Frequency: You will be contacted by an agent giving these missions once every 16 successfully completed missions. However, this number will increase if you fail or refuse a mission.
Lets say you have done 15 successful missions with Agent X, and these are the only missions you have ever done...
- If you do 1 more mission for Agent X successfully, you will be contacted shortly after by a storyline agent.
- If you fail or refuse the next mission you will need to do at least 2 more missions before the storyline agent contacts you.
All storyline agents that contact you should now be within 15 jumps of the agent you are working for.
There is a small bug in the storyline agents at present, where they will not talk to you if you go to their station prior to accepting the mission. The workaround for this is to talk to this agent remotely (from space or another station).

A small suggestion; Tell the GMs about the workaround. Petitioning the bug will cause them to cancel the mission and inform you they cant fix it... I already lost 2 Storyline mission this way...One of which was supposed to end on the 5th... ---------------------------

The workaround doesnt work once the bug has happened. What I have suggested should prevent the bug occuring in the first place.

I searched for the agent's name using people and places and then added him to my address book. Then once I docked, I selected talk to agent from my address book.
Seemed to work.

I just talk to them directly from the email, although I obviously wait to accept it until I actually get there.

So the 15 mission interval is a fixed number? Can't be affected by skills or standings like in castor?
Is this intentional, or are we just getting shafted due to another bug?

Euh, I did 250+ missions for this level-3 InterBus agent and also missions for other agents. I only got LP-offers, but -never- a storyline-mission. Is this correct?

The Interbus agents are the only ones in their faction - I suspect that is why they cannot trigger referals which usually lead you to important missions for another corporation within the same faction.
Should have been bug-reported a few thousand times already...
Questions for the bug-hunters - the old important mission counter was influenced by personal standing, reducing the max number of missions to the next important mission. Is that no longer valid. i.e. is 16 missions plus 2 for each failed/declined mission a fixed value? Does the chance to decline one mission every four hours without standing loss apply to the important mission counter as well? |

Edited by: Gelf on 03/01/2005 23:50:21 why is it when ever i go to a station to talk to one of these story line agents they are busy?
this has happened to me 5 times now and its getting to be a pain in the arse. i initiated a convo with the last agent i tried this on and she was willing to talk to me, so i cancelled the convo, headed to the location and docked at the agents station, tried opening the convo again and she refused. i logged off and then back on again and the mission was no longer in my journal even tho b4 the log i still had plenty of time to accept the mission.
i begrudge having these missions forced on me in the first place, let alone having them refuse to talk to me when i get there. so now i dont do them and am again forced to take a faction hit.

Presently, the storyline missions are 1 every 16 and are not modified by standing. The "free" refusal every 4 hours is only standings related. It will count as a refusal in terms of the storyline mission counter.
Gelf, as I stated in my original post, storyline agents have a bug where they will refuse to talk to you if you go to their station. Talk to them remotely in order to get the mission.

Just got a storyline mission which is 17 jumps from where I am to where the mercenaries are.
These missions remain a waste of time while they are so far away and the agents aren't members of the corp you are working for.
Bring back the old style important missions.

Thanks for the reply, Mephysto. Now I'd really like to see a dev here to tell us if that change was intentional, deliberate and permanent :-7
Oh, and what if anything they'd plan to do with the Interbus guys... |

Iv had 8 Important Storyline missions since exodus. The first three were all Face to Face Part 8 - Identify the corpse which was the last part of the tutorial storyline which I first completed months before. This was a known bug and has apparently been "fixed". The 5 since then have ALL been Mercenery Assasination, ALL to kill 1 Mercenary Wingman, 3 elite fighters and 1 commander. Is there only one important mission at level 3 or something?

Has this figure of 16 been implemented recently? I have done well over 50 missions for one agent, without failure, and have yet to receive a single storyline mission!

plz bring back the story missions the way they were b4 the patch. in the time it takes to get to these story line agents i could have done 2-3 missions for my main agent. going all that way for 200k isk or a crappy implant is a waste of my time. i only do agent missions for short breaks when my alt is camped or when i need a break from pvp. if u take this away from me what is left for me to do? cant mine as that needs more investment of my time and cant be done in short spells of gameplay apart from mining being mind numbingly dull (mind u agent missions arent much better).
thx btw for the reply :)

The Storyline missions are totaly not worth it it seems. I am doing lvl3 missions regularly and keep getting offered "mercenary Assasinations" I honestly CAN NOT be bothered going 12 jumps to gack 5 easy rats for no real reward. In the 9 Storyline Missions I have been offered, only ONCE have I had a real storyline mission. It wasn't a great mission, but was amusing and not as repetative as the Merc Assasinations. What happened to having to kill an Amarrian fleet on live TV for an implant? I thought the idea was to REWARD us for our hard work, not frustrate us...
Please can we have some fixes and some REAL missions...

I would have to agree, travel 14 jumps for a 200K mission, u could get 3-4 missions done with your main agent in that time, plus the missions are'nt even a challenge or in any way interesting. Could we plz have the old format back (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination. |

Edited by: capt on 05/01/2005 13:31:10 Not only do you have to travel 15 jumps ect.
My last storyline mission (well it's a mercenary assasination one) offers me 80.000isk reward and a nr of station containers as a bonus reward. And all this for 15 jumps of wich 8 are through 0.2-0.3 territory. The actual mission location is in 0.2.
This is a level 3 mission and for that measly reward and standing upgrade to faction and some random corp who I never wanted to work for in the first place, I should risk a cruiser or BS (or whatever you chose to fly) a full set of implants and some nice mods? You got to be kidding me......
Mind you I don't mind the risk of pvp all that much, but I remember from the past ccp going out of their way to change it so that agents in empire space do not send you below 0.4. With success I may ad. And now all of a sudden we get send to "unsafe" space to do some lousy storyline mission?

i talked to my storyline agent in space. was told to come to station, tried talking via journal, was told to go away, tried via personal contact, told to go away. This work around doesn't always work i seems

Does the rise in number of missions needing to be done if failed or refuesed stay at the higher number or does it eventually return to normal? Because if it stays high, I suggest CCP return everyone to the 15 because the storyline bugs are causing us to have this rise against our control. If i refuse it thats fine but not when its a bug. |

I have not had a single problem with the storylines at lvl 3 except for the 60k reward and no implants. But hey that faction standing to have access to all agents of that faction.
you already know if your gonna do them or not, I myself want faction more than anything so I do them..... my choice.
If your not gonna do them just delete the mail and forget about it.
if you do them. don't do anything till your ready to do it.
From the evemail.........
speak with agent........ can you show me more details........ set destination to mission location from the details.......
Do NOT close the windows, minimize both the agent conversation window and details window.
Travel to mission location and bring up the agent convo window.
Accept the mission. at this point you can close all windows.
do the mission
set destination from evemail to agent location.
dock
complete
I've made sure to repeat that cycle and I've not a single problem yet.

apparently one of the problems is that you must do them quickly, the timer shown is not the real timer. After talking to a GM I found the mission offers apparently run out earlier than the journal message says. So like X'Alor says, you know if you are going to do them so just go talk to the agent. don't put it off and get several to go do at a time (being they kind of suck for 30 hops round trip).
I'd still like to hear some official or semi official word on my previous question on if the penalty for not accepting is definately in game and if you can ever return to the normal 15 mission coutner.

Once you have done a storyline mission, the counter to the next one resets to 16. Refusals/failures then start modifying that number again.
