Upon getting taken to the new character creation the game crashes at about 55% of the loading bar. If this is going to need an increased minimum spec might be worth letting people know now or even bypassing the option to create a new character portrait.
I wonder if all those unique high res characters all together in fancy bars with their different faces and clothes won't cause massive lag!

The new Creator has a lot of potential. I'm really looking forward to see it on TQ.
As I have all my Slots filled and didn't want to wait for 10 hours, I was stuck with a Gallentean, so only a few opinions to this race.
I can sculpt a lot of facial features, but not really much. E.G. I can make her a stub nose, but I can't give her a hump nose.
Second, the sculpting is extremely sensitive. If I move the mouse a few mm left or right, I already reached the extreme ends of the scale. It would be nice to have some sort of indicator, where on the scale the actual choice is.
It would also be nice to have an indicator, what the axis do on a specific part of the face, because now, you have to find it out yourself and sometimes the changes are so small, you can't figure it out as you don't see a real change. And the Axis should change with your viewpoint. As I wanted to change her nose from the side, I thought that nothing happened as I moved the mouse around, just to find out, as I moved back to the frontal view, that her nose now looks like the one of a woman with a very bad surgeon ;) .
I find it cool that you can change the intensity of certain facial features like scars of freckles, but on the other hand, e.g. for freckles, even in the strongest setting you can hardly see them if you don't zoom all the way in. So I vote for more differences between the points on the outer ring of the featurewheel.
Another thing I encountered a few times was, that I accidentally changed a part of the body when I wanted to turn the avatar around to see her from the side.
That's about it. I'm really looking forward on the next iterations on SiSi and the final product on TQ.

Well I was planning on avoiding them and using the low-spec machine for market trading etc although it does do NPC missions quite well unless there are large structures around in which case you just never view in their direction!

Play with the solar system map open, no reason to actually see stuff in 3D, all the information you need is on your overview. --

That is what I often do! My point however is that if this expansion is going to require more graphical power etc then CCP might want to consider whether people on lower spec systems will update ok and will they get more subs from the fancy graphics than they lose from lower spec people not being able to play. I do not know whether they keep track of what peoples specs are etc I presume they must have a pretty accurate idea. For me I would just play Eve on my main PC more. However, this may not be an option for some people. It would though change the way I play the game and may if people are using laptops when away from a main PC etc.

Looks good for a start to me. Needs a bit more ethnic diversity Brutor look a bit nordic and the asian bloodlines need to be a bit more asian.
Some fat guy heads would be nice and some sneaky weaselly looking types . When I tried to match a head to the fat guy body it ended up looking like some kind of roid induced muscular overgrowth syndrome.
Send the designers on a field trip to the Atlanta office good diversity here.

I'm not sure what I did, but after fiddling with the face for a long time and trying to get the eyes right, I switched to "eyes". The camera zoomed right in on the face, then zoomed in further, and flipped my character upside-down. I tried to zoom out, at which point the character turned matte black. So I quit and started again.
That's as much of a bug report as I can provide.

I like the character creator, but the one thing that bugs me is the fact that the hair sits just a bit too high on the head. This makes the foreheads on some of the hairstyles look a bit too big.
Other than that, more options please!

Ha ha... okay, I just had to wait a bit longer than normal. 25 seconds to update, then the figure randomly moves around for a while.

The 3D avatar thing is not the next expansion yet, only the character creator. After that all you get is a 2D portrait image which will not cost any more resources than it does now. For Incarna I just hope it will be optional also for performance reasons but that's to be seen. --

Until EVE is available on OnLive, I don't see how it is possible for this to cause lag. Low frame rates, sure.

Client crashes whenever I try to enter new character creation screen. Seems to attempt to load but all I ever see is the background. It also seems to make my computer think I have just plugged in speakers and microphone. Tried disabling non-essential process but no improvement. Will next try upgrading gfx drivers. |

Agreed on all counts. The few long hairstyles just look ridiculous because of this, and the customization is somewhat too limited.
I know the point is to keep the characters from getting too weird looking, but currently the limitations are way too severe - they can be loosened up a bit without losing the intended design.

The hair should be customizable for each style, make parts longer, shorter, curly, or straight. Also, allow us to modify the hairline and hairline shape (the kid from the Munsters pointy hair, or a reseeding hairline, or normal round hairline).
Making each hairstyle customizable would be really cool and make each character unique.

I like this and look forward to seeing this in game...this will definatly make things much more interesing.
The selection wheels were ok once you worked out the choices could be advanced by left clicking or using the mouse scroll wheel. The sculpting tool was not too intuitive and needed a lot of experimentation to get anything resonable.
There may be a case for collars or jewelry because the avie's neck joint was always obvious.
I accept you said the test portraits etc were only test........but I do hope there will be a better range of face sculpting- particularly the eye shape (eyelid shape?) which has a the biggest effect on setting a characters expression/personality than anything else!
Finally on clothes can you please make sure the women of new Eden will not be limited to looking like 1970's rock chicks with nothing to wear but black boots, denim and biking leathers or alternatively look like they have just come back from a funeral!!!!. I know theres definatly a line to be drawn in the game before female apparel gets gratuitous but hope this has been given some thought.
Otherwise many thanks for bringing this on and roll on Incursion!

Edited by: Typhado3 on 10/10/2010 00:10:28 Very nice so far but needs a lot more work and finishing off.
Problems
1a. Clipping issues with boots and long trousers. boots will poke through.
1b. More clipping, eyes poking through the lower eyelids
2. Female hip bones/pelvis. Not an expert but it just seems much too high above the undies for me (turn muscles up to 3 or higher to see it better). EDIT: no so much of a problem when their wearing pants though.
3. in posing, bottom lip lets us move whole head around (not very intuitive)
4. corners of lips doesn't seem to do anything (was it meant to be expression cause I can't find out how to make him smile)
5. I find that moving mouse over lower leg area results in the arm/back grid coming up for females
6. I didn't get a colour selector after changing male hair.
7. Small gaps of transperancy between hair and head, around the forhead aera. By looking through these at the right angle you see outside background instead of seeing the back of the hair in there. Should make the hair materials double sided maybe? best seen on hairstyles like the 2nd on the right
8. One of the female hair styles (7th one to the right, the double braids coming down the front) has clipping issues. With large breast sizes it will go into the breasts instead of resting on top of them. Also happens with 9th
9. 10th/11th hairstyle can have it clip with the right cheek (waves of hair/fringe passing through it)
10. Some hairstyles have hair ornaments such as hairbands, these should have a seperate colour to the overall hair.
Suggestions:
1. long hair for dudes (look at my portrait <-)
2. An option to see all the options (can be hard to find some of the little drag areas on the characters and what they do)
3. I think a couple people in this thread got confused by having structure like transformations in the pose menu that where really just changing the pose. Might wanna make that more clear and give some default pose option to reset it.
4. Need to be able to make bigger breasts. Not trying to be dirty but the current range doesn't cover the full range of normal human breast sizes.
5. Tattoo's I know their coming but want to emphasize a need for them, and many of them, and preferably without microtransactions.
6. female hairstyle 2nd on the left (a ponytale) move it to be with the rest of the ponytails at 9 O'Clock
7. Probably just my old laptop (and trying to run 2 clients at once) but some things like hair and clothes take a bit to load. To stop impatient people spamming 'next' before its finished loading could we have a loading bar/icon.
8. ladies lack dresses and skirts. Wondering are these gonna be possible to implement?
Look forward to seeing end result good luck. If CCP keep working on this they might even be able to beat APB's customisation eventually. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

I think the main issue with testing out the dials and the sculpting is the lag. If the rendering slowness wasn't there and the dials/sculpting were more responsive, they definitely would be easier to use. |

Hey CCP, here is another suggestion. Please let us use the arrow keys to adjust the face features in addition to the dragging with mouse.
So then we can either:
Select grid with mouse and drag up/down and left/right.
or
Select grid with mouse and use left/right and up/down arrow to adjust the atributes. Say with a stepping of 20 or 30 clicks from end to end adjustment.
This would make the now pretty clunky editing a lot smoother and will make it less likely that you jump from max to max without a chance to explore middle settings. After all the arrow keys are a great lot more precise than a mouse ever will be.

Originally by: Jenny Hawk No it's the hairline; some styles let the hair growth start a lot higher than the others.
Look at the example, where the styles left (3) and right (9) have "normal", natural looking hair, the middle head (16) looks like the forehead is huge, but it's actually because the hair starts to grow almost on top of her head (red line) instead of on the natural height (blue line).
Thanks for the comparisions, that particular hair style is what I use on my current achura and it looked plain bad in the new engine. I have also noticed on some hairstyles the hair is floating 1-2 cm outside the skull above the neck.

It just rotates the character and does nothing else...tried everything from left right click to middle click and even click/shift/alt/cntrl/ whatever and it still just rotates the viewpoint. Everytime i click the "sculpting" button at the top of the list i wait a few seconds, see all the changable area's light up for 0,5 secs and then nothing. It does the same in portrait mode. Had every combo on the kb with left/right/middle mouse click and nothing worked so....enlighten me?
Happend to me too.. had to set HDR ON, Shadows ON, Texture detail HIGH, LOD HIGH and Shader qual HIGH. gl - Ati HD 4670 produces 6fps if I zoom in on a head with hairs on then though
All options are on high/on by default with me. Changed them to off/low and didn't work. Changed back to high/on and still no dice on sculpting...weird science... ___________
