A third optional patch will be deployed during downtime on Thursday, October 7 which will fix several issues reported to us following the release of Tyrannis 1.1. While the patch is optional, we would encourage everyone to apply the update to ensure your gameplay is improved. A full list of updated patch notes can be found here.
The reason for deploying an optional patch is that these updates contain UI core fixes which are client-only changes in python. This process is much quicker to prepare, test and execute and allows us to prepare a patch much faster than usual. The EVE Online client remains usable whether an optional patch is applied or not.
Following downtime you will see a pop up box once the client is launched informing you that a patch is available and if you want to install. If you click 'Yes' then the patch will be applied and then you can log into Tranquility. If you choose 'No' you will log in to Tranquility directly but none of the fixes will be applied. If you clicked 'No' in error you can still apply the patch by going to the ESC menu, General Settings and apply the patch from the 'Install' button there.
The first and second Tyrannis 1.1 optional patches will be removed from the server and all fixes will be included in this third patch. If you choose not to install this patch all previous optional patches will be uninstalled as well. Once again, it is highly recommended you install this patch.

So let me get this straight...
We had a patch, 1.1, which broke the UI and overview.
Then we had a patch of that patch, which did nothing to fix the problems of the first patch.
Then we got a patch of the patch of the patch which has done nothing to fix the problems caused by the original patch and the patch of that patch.
So now we are getting a patch of the patch of the patch and expect that it will fix the problems created by the original patch that wasn't fixed by the patch of the patch, or the patch of the patch of the patch?
Confused yet?

Actually, the 1st optional patch did nothing but the 2nd was actually pretty good.
It fixed 95% of the issues I had at least.
Hopefully that 3rd optional will fix my remaining problems...
P.S.
What the hell,here they are:
-No popup when you get an expedition (gotta check journal-not critical) -Cycling probe list (not too bad)

The optional client patches is a light-weight method for us to fix client issues, where there is only client code involved and not coordinated client/server changes.
It takes us 1 minute and 6 seconds to build an optional client patch (since we are only packaging the Python code) and the deployment is extremely light-weight. By comparison, a full client patch takes about 4 hours to build and deployment involves a lengthy download and patch testing process.

You rarely see this since we don't update the patch notes (which we really should do so you are informed) but we normally hotfix the server once or twice a week, every week with all sorts of performance fixes and bug fixes. It just so happens that we are concentrating on the client at the moment, hence the flurry of fixes that are very visible to you.

Please tell me it fixes allowing you to close the 'manage' window for a POS after you move 2500m away. I click that while refueling to read the window while in warp to figure out how much fuel I need. It gets annoying having to warp back to the pos just to close the window.
'You must be 2500m or less from the pos to do that' type message like I'm trying to open rather than close.

Actually, since I'm done making useless comments on this thread I thought I should ask a serious question. Has the overview bug I've been experiencing since the last patch been addressed?
Normally I keep my overview set to sort by icon. After the last patch, things have been showing up in random places on the overview, out of their icon group (if that makes sense). This isn't only when I encounter new objects though, it happens during combat at times. A ship will jump from being within it's group to being somewhere randomly placed down the list till I scroll back down to find it. This only happens when the list is long enough to scroll through and only with some objects.
Regardless of what I said before this, you should remember that only about 1 in 20 of my posts have any real purpose. |

I have been playing eve since 2005 and I have never once seen an optional patch been deployed and have also never seen any post patch fixes being introduced so closely to the original patch release.
Can you please reveal????
1. Have you developed a new patch routine for releases for quick fixes? 2. Have you increased your workload to much to handle? 3. Are you rushing your patches for competition reasons?
I love eve, don't kill it, I have never seen eve released into such a untested state, why are you having to release inncentives for players to log into the test server, are you having issues testing your own releases???
Can't pull wool over my eyes so tell me why so dramatically different to my previous 5 years of playing?
Thanks,
Matt.

FIXES
User Interface
* It is now possible to resize pinned windows. * Itemized bookmarks can now be dragged from a location, such as a cargo hold, straight into a bookmark folder. * The overview is now forced to clean itself after you have jumped. It didn't before, which was messy.
Miscellaneous
* The asset window no longer goes blank if it was open while your ship was docking.
#2 is good, only saw #3 once and clearing cache fixed that, never experienced #4.
But as for #1 - I have the "Lock Windows When Pinned" option checked, please tell me this patch won't override that setting.

We initially developed the optional client hotfix system in Oct 2007 and iterated on it in Jan 2008. We have used it since then when it's appropriate.
We can only use it if the changes we are making are completely separated stand-alone client changes on one hand and stand-alone server changes on the other. As soon as there is a single coordinated client/server change then we have to go for a full patch.
When we have to use a full patch then we tend to hold off on the client changes and accumulate the fixes into a larger patch, due to the overhead. With the optional client hotfixes we release often, as soon as there are tested fixes ready.

It is intended design and the response from the bug hunter is correct.
Try it in Windows, double clicking in the column headers in Windows Explorer will change the sort order. What you should in EVE (as in Windows) is to double click on the column separators in between the column headers. That will resize the column to the left of the cursor. You will find EVE and Windows to behave the same way.

Degraded functionality: It's considerable harder to hit two pixels between columns, rather than the whole column header. Degraded/confused functionality: If before the doubleclick was different action from click, and they didn't interfere, now the doubleclick doing both autoresize and change sorting direction. Decide on one action, please, not both. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

No, I read your bug reports; there is tremendous detail missing compared to what I saw in the video. For example, for the auto-resize issue you are experiencing then in the video you change the column order.
BTW, I tried this again and I still can't reproduce this. But details are key so that we can reproduce the issues and perhaps I overlooked something in the video that the programmers will spot.

You will find EVE and Windows to behave the same way.
With all due respect, do you use windows? Because that is not how MS Windows works.

Must say, only problem i really had was the target action window resizing every time I undocked, and the second optional patch fixed that.
Now, I have something entirely different on mind, which is also related to the UI.
When you're setting up the overview to show drones and wrecks, a while ago you didn't need to check "is in alliance" and "has excellent standing" in states filter. The "is in alliance" was after dominion, and "has excellent standing" was after this Tyrannis 1.1 update.
Is this intentional? or is a misfortunate sneaky bug that hasn't been addressed yet? I can't see why you'd have to do this to see your own wrecks and drones, as I certainly don't want to see pilots with excellent standing and in my alliance when missioning. Gets my overview cluttered.

I did not understand if the Developer acknowledged the bug with the Show Info window appearing always smack in the screen center.
Reproduce steps:
1) Lock a rat 2) Click on the big "i" in the upper right of the screen (top of overview=>selected item) 3) The resulting info window appears at the center of the screen. 4) Move it wherever. Close it. Click the "i" again. The window will appear at the center of the screen again and again.

Actually, the 1st optional patch did nothing but the 2nd was actually pretty good.
It fixed 95% of the issues I had at least.
Hopefully that 3rd optional will fix my remaining problems...
P.S.
Actually it was the third. First it was the "do nothing" optional patch. Second it was a second "do nothing" optional patch published in Oct 5 morning Third was the "fixes #2" labelled patch published later in Oct 5 and it worked. - Auditing & consulting

With all due respect, but what the Dev described is EXACTLY how it works in windows. You are getting confused between clicking on the column header vs the column header seperator (the line in between the columns in the column header).
Clicking on the column header changes the sort order, double clicking sorts it first one way then the other. Double clicking on the seperator though resizes the column to the left of the mouse cursor to an "auto size" that should expand/shrink the column to the exact width of the content being displayed in the column.
Go check your facts again because frankly sir you are wrong and CCP are right in this instance.

After a review of your video: You open the market window, rearrange the columns and then you manually resize the price column. Manually resizing the column turns off auto resizing. That's nothing new, it was like that before Tyrannis 1.1. Your bug report went from Not Reproducible to By Design.

Did you used to work for SOE or something?
Their term for a problem they don't want to fix is call it "working as intended". Now that you describe it, this happens to me too, it's annoying and the screen shouldn't do that.

Hmm, now when i drag an item from the assets window into the cargohold or fitting screen, the assets window jumps to the top and then back down to wherever it was. (eg. if you have 50 items in your assets and you drag #45, the window jumps up to the top and then back to the level that item #45 was at.) Its annoying as hell.

Log into the game and open the Esc menu. There should be a button to click that says 'there is an optional patch available' or something similar.

This is easy to explain.
Behind the UI management there used to be the "usual" dinosaur age spaghetti code that was kicked again and again thru the years till it behaved.
Now CCP want to "scrub off" those elder remains, probably to make it easier to add incarna and whatever in a second time. So they changed how the code manages the UI "behind the hood" (it's called refactoring), replacing it with new code made from scratch. Now, even if the new code could be better structured and more open to future expansions / debugging, it IS new and being new it usually contains bugs.
It's like we went back to EvE UI beta, but this time the server is "for real" and thus players get affected in large numbers even with smaller bugs.
Now, being it like a new software, even little / stupid things like window placement can be broken and need to be fixed.

That¦s hilarious. Even the third patch of the patch did not fix all bugs. Maybe tomorrow there is another one or the day after. At least I hope this. Still unfixed: - answering to an mail an pressing enter is like a blender for the whole text - if you set in the options not to use the same info window, still the sizes are not saved, if you set it everything is fine but holding every time shift to open several of them is quite annoying - If you want to set a channel topic and mark text, click right to link it to a solar system, yeah you guessed right there is a bug So gogogo for the last Bugs

thats all feasible and acceptable imo.....however, these bugs should have been sorted on the test server when they were noticed, and not deployed onto TQ. Its like distributing a car that you know has braking problems and yet you still go ahead with it.

Oh, but they do that. I am a programmer developing software for large car manufacturing brands production lines. Regardless of brand, they WILL happily ship defective stuff (and force us to "relax" quality control parameters) expecially in periods the market is good and they can't produce quick enough. The idea is this: it yields much more money to *cash in now* and sell 1M cars and eventually recall 2000 of them and pay an handful of deaths than waiting for quality new components to be available and basically lose the favorable sales train of the moment. - Auditing & consulting

The bugs that are actually annoying all still exist. Forcing the overview to refresh in order to try to clear the dual-load bug IS BAD PROGRAMMING. You don't change a program to work with a bug. You FIX THE BUG. What's the point of even refactoring if it's being done improperly?
Anyway, I reported these in the earlier patch thread but I'll report them here again.
[li]Dragging and dropping an item does not play the 'drop' sfx.[/li] [li]Chat window font in the typing area is squished horzontally, making it very difficult to read what you're typing.[/li] [li]When the UI experiences its random epileptic fits after using the scanner/system map sometimes windows are thrown clear off the screen and cannot be reached except by ctl+tab. Ctl+tab causes the lost windows to re-enter the screen. (Haven't seen this yet since second optional patch, but I haven't been scanning.)[/li] [li]Show-info windows do not remember position, but rather locate themselves so that the protrait is centered on-screen.[/li] [li]The underlined links look stupid, but if you insist on keeping them then please make the underline persist for the whole item name rather than break on each word.[/li]

Here's one specific question, and I'll address it directly rather than whining about it...
ALL containers (secure cans, freight containers, station containers etc.) open in the SAME PLACE, which really messes with organization. Before the "big patch" I could have a station container pop up in one particular place, then open another one that would appear in a different place (so I could easily move from one to another), and open the secure can I keep in my cargo hold to unload mission loot into the station container.
Wrecks and cargo containers (jettisoned cans) should open in the same place. I get that. But secure cans, station containers, etc. used to have their own separate settings. PLEASE restore this function... for the sake of those of us who clean up our wrecks in missions and leave space feeling fresh and unpolluted. Thanks! |

Since the latest Tyrannis and including these optional patches, my UI shows "chewed" characters in constrained places like i.e. some tabs and some overview rows.
Even before entering the game, the character information about the current pilot in the log in screen (ie where the pilot is, his wallet etc) right to his portrait shows compressed.
This only after latest Tyrannis as well.
This happens on 2 well different computers, one with Win 7 64 the other with Win 7 32 bit. One has a Nvidia 9600 the other an Nvidia ION, both with updated drivers. - Auditing & consulting

This explains one of my bugs from yesterday. Even in hi-sec I was experiencing extremely long delays after jumping in populated hi-sec systems (market hubs). It lead to a couple of client crashes where it just closed socket, closed the whole eve window, and relaunched like I had hit 'relog'. Ironically it wasn't bad at all in lowsec and 0.0 when I headed out.

Optional patches (all three of them) doesn't help. I've written a petition, but they told me it's because I use Intel graphics. So, why it was working before? Why there's no information anywhere, that EVE doesn't work properly with Intel graphics?
CCP please, fix the game I've payed for, as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.

I'm not aware of any intel graphic processors that are decent at best. You might just have been extremely lucky to be able to play it before.

Originally by: CCP Explorer No, I read your bug reports; there is tremendous detail missing compared to what I saw in the video. For example, for the auto-resize issue you are experiencing then in the video you change the column order.
Doubt it's critical. I can reproduce it in any window.
Originally by: CCP Explorer After a review of your video: You open the market window, rearrange the columns and then you manually resize the price column. Manually resizing the column turns off auto resizing. That's nothing new, it was like that before Tyrannis 1.1. Your bug report went from Not Reproducible to By Design.
I do NOT manually resize it. I let it to automatically resize! Doubleclick, not click+drag.
Let me repeat necessary steps. 1. Doubleclick column resize handler to make it autoadjust. 2. Make it to display the string far longer than it's current width. String will be cut.
By default, out from start, the autoresize seems to be working, but once you start playing with column width by yourself, it's no longer possible to turn the column back to autoresize.
I doubt that being unable to return to the original behavior without wiping all your settings is "by design", unless you intentionally designing unusable interface. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Yes, it is possible.
It goes back to auto-resize if you double-click the little divider area at the top of the column header.

After this, it will automatically resize to accommodate the largest width in the column, and retains the auto-resize setting.

CCP: Will patch #3 fix bug #101533?
Don't know, I've notified the programmers.
Nope. Still there. BTW this is my bug report on the multiple container window bug. To see the bug: Open at least 2 containers, move their windows to desired locations, close them both, and reopen them both. They will not be where you moved them.
Also still there: Shift-drag sometimes not splitting stacks (Bug report 101111).
PI items disappearing (bug report 100281). That one is not as bad as it sounds, they can just disappear from the list, not the game.
I can work around these bugs, so I can see why CCP is not getting to them when there are others getting crashes and DC's. But they are annoying.

So this new optional patch did nothing. I still am unable to play the game since the first patch I keep getting disconnects where the game stops responding and closes. I have sent in petitions with all the details requested:
Sent - 10/2/2010 4:48:00 PM Thank you for contacting customer support.
In order to try solve this problem we will need some information about your computer. 1. Please run the DirectX diagnostics tool: Press 'Start' and select 'run'. Type dxdiag and hit enter. When you do this, a window will pop up. 2. Click the "Save All Information" button that's located in its lower right corner. 3. Then attach the file to the e-mail and send us. In order to thoroughly test your connection to the EVE server then I recommend that you download a program called pingplotter which is available here http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work.
After starting up pingplotter do the following in the program:
1) Under "Adress to trace" put the following value in the box: 87.237.38.200 2) In the bottom left corner in the box "# of times to trace" put the value Unlimited 3) In the bottom left corner in the box "Trace Intervals" change it to 2.5 seconds 4) In the bottom left corner in the box "Samples to include" change it to 1500. 5) Click on "Trace" button in the bottom left corner.
When you've suffered a disconnection save the results as the sample set ( pp2 ) attach the file to the petition and send us.
Best regards, Senior GM Retrofire EVE Online Customer Support
Done all that had no response since. Plenty of other people having the same problem. Are you just hoping we will all go away so you don't have to fix it? I have three accounts and I can't use any of them Logged on today at 17:38 client closes at 17:41

Two more bugs:
1) Dropping ammo on the turrets in the fitting window does not make the "BZRPPP!" noise. It's mute now.
2) Activating single module overheating by clicking in the green little moon above the module looks somewhat wrong: the hotspot area looks like shifted or reduced by 2 pixels in its bottom boundary, so it's harder to enable than before. - Auditing & consulting

Thanks!
I have the exact same issues. None of the 3 optional patches has fixed it. Some window positions are tied in together no matter what you try to separate them. They will sometimes remember their sizes, but never save their separate positions. It's not only the wreck/loot and station containers too, the ship maintenance array window on my orca is also locked into the same window info.
The UI needs a complete overhaul. People have been screaming about it for years already. I had UI issues even before the big patch but at least it was manageable after hours of moving and resizing windows. This is not going to be an easy fix considering based on everyone I play with and from what I've been reading on the forums, everyone has different issues witht he UI. Frustratingly enough, some have no issues with it at all.

Now, being it like a new software, even little / stupid things like window placement can be broken and need to be fixed.
thats all feasible and acceptable imo.....however, these bugs should have been sorted on the test server when they were noticed, and not deployed onto TQ. Its like distributing a car that you know has braking problems and yet you still go ahead with it.
What quite a few people in this thread fail to realize is the sheer amount of time it would take to find every last bug in the software BEFORE it is deployed. The QA and bug hunters main job before a patch is deployed is to sort out a lot of the major bugs that are found that would keep the product from working at all. there is a lot of code that goes in a game like this... if i recall its around 65,000 lines? so to go through all of that to see and the new additions would be ill practical of time.
the process of building something and then letting issues arise and taking care of them when they do is the fastest cheapest and most efficient way of debugging software. because then instead of sifting through all that code you can go straight to where the problem is and fix it. Yes it so happens that this time around the code had more visible bugs to us than normal. but for them hot fixing the code twice a week and the vast majority of us not even noticing it i say is a feat well done. that and they have busted their asses to get us these patches to fix the UI a hell of a lot faster than ive seen other companies with MMOs do it. so be patient and realize that they are doing a lot of work to try and keep us happy... even if some of you guys are 12 year old, self important, feeling like you deserve everything ass holes. lol.

Special congratulations are due to QA for signing off on a release that every player realised was broken within minutes of logging in as windows jumped about like someone on crack!

Edited by: Venge Dahveed on 08/10/2010 01:02:42 For what it's worth, I wonder how much of the problem can be due to individual computer setup (OS, etc.)?
I have a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, and have very few problems on either of them - none of which affect game play. I left the graveyard sewer of Windows years ago and won't ever go back. The trash that accumulates in the Bill Gates curse on humanity called "Windows" is a constant source of pain and suffering in the world. I bet my last pirate destroyed ship that much of the problem is due to the fact that (for now) mankind is still shackled to Windows.
I'm sure most of you are aware of the bugs that grow inside Windows and that regularly require an insecticide (I use System Mechanic generally). Just for grins, do a full System Mechanic scan, fix the problems that WILL be found in your Windows OS, and try again.
The ONLY real problems I've had occur when I quit the game. It sometimes hangs and forces me to shutdown the system. But then as I said, gameplay is not affected. A couple of minor nuisances are present from time to time, but all in all they are negligible.
I fully understand the severity of the frustration many may be having. I simply don't see the problems on my particular two Macs. Thank God for Apple. REPENT of your use of Windows and embrace the superiority of the Mac!

Also i have doubles in my overview once in a while. not sure of the cause but it happens once in a great while.

We initially developed the optional client hotfix system in Oct 2007 and iterated on it in Jan 2008. We have used it since then when it's appropriate.
We can only use it if the changes we are making are completely separated stand-alone client changes on one hand and stand-alone server changes on the other. As soon as there is a single coordinated client/server change then we have to go for a full patch.
When we have to use a full patch then we tend to hold off on the client changes and accumulate the fixes into a larger patch, due to the overhead. With the optional client hotfixes we release often, as soon as there are tested fixes ready.
Great job CCP for implementing this, save's us from downloading a full client :) O_O |

So the overview cleans itself now after jumping into a new system, that's wonderful. Too bad it doesn't always clean itself when you undock. "Let's fix this one specific instance where the session changes. Wait... you mean there are other times when the session can change too?"
It's good to know someone is at least trying to work on the problems, even if it is some kid. Or maybe a monkey. Or even a hamster. The end result is the same so it's hard to guess.
I would much rather have these optional patches iterated every week if progress is made, instead of waiting weeks between full client patch downloads. On the other hand, it does seem as though we are paying you to be beta testers, so who knows if it's really a good thing or not. |

So if you don't down load the third optional patch the first time it doesn't ask again and the patch on the website is just the 1.1 patch. Any idea where or how i get this third patch? |

Jebus crist, some of you are really daft. Is it the first time you use a forum? Do you really think you are the only one with this problem?

ok folks let me point out a few things.
I missed betatesting Eve due to only being able to afford a Nvidia Ti4200 vid card. It was good enough to play Eve at release but not enough to be a tester.
For whatever reason Eve is a wee bit more complicated than other games.. how so? Devs mess with the game code to fix prob A and it FUBARS somthing else entirely. This has happened over and over with Eve. And sometimes it takes MONTHS to fix. Personally I assume it has to do more with the complexity of the game coupled with it being all 300K of us playing in a single shard.
Not so -how about POS shields bug?
Next time a full patch hits notice the build number _I think its in the 50,000 range by now could be a lot higher. Expansion is free and the game does get better.
CCP as far as we know arent cheating the players by stacking the game in favor of their ingame buddies. Things could be a lot worse.
SO lets find something else to whine about or do I have to break out the expensive cheeses?
FYI we have had a min of 2 optional patches but never an optional patch to fix the optional patch

FYI the local chatter from NPC's does not play correctly anymore.
Specifically noticed in "Guristas Hideaway" sites
I did two last night the first one played none of the NPC chatter and the second one played only the first line.
"Patrol to HQ our position has been compromised..."
It should continue...
"You will regret that..."
It does not. |

-minimizing local and bringing it back up makes it go a little crazy, the list is too short and fills properly only after you start scrolling it
-minimizing browser and bringing it back up also has a visual bug, you can see first image from the page filling the whole browser window for few frames (maybe one frame, it just flashes), looks like engine is reusing a buffer without reinitializing or something.
-opening fitting window still takes 2-4 seconds, please get rid of this stupid one-by-one animation
-opening skill subcategories is still choppy, takes over one second to open subcategory and it used to be instant

This, but kudos to CCP on rapid patch fixing
You rarely see this since we don't update the patch notes (which we really should do so you are informed) but we normally hotfix the server once or twice a week, every week with all sorts of performance fixes and bug fixes. It just so happens that we are concentrating on the client at the moment, hence the flurry of fixes that are very visible to you.
Why is everyone complaining??? You should see the updates to my Gentoo Linux OS that happen almost daily, on top of the fact that I use WINE. You have to remember they are updating minor versions of Python from 2.5.x to 2,6.x. In these upgrades methods get rewritten upstream by the python developers to perform new behaviors, so the intended behavior in Eve gets quirky, and some get dropped all together, requiring code to be rewritten in Eve for method calls that no longer work. Be happy that we have a few more years of Python 2.x, as the current version of Python is actually 3.x. See http://www.python.org/the Python Website/url] for more details. For anyone who's curious my linux OS has both versions installed, but using Python 3 breaks my Package Installer, so Eve is right where it needs to be in terms of it's Software life-cycle.

The thing that keeps anoying me is, #1 helped me, everythign was cool. #2 was ok, but i had more problems than with #1. when #3 came out, i just wanted to sort 2 short things in corp wallet, so i didn't install it, as it takes me a bit longer to download this stuff (64 kbps atm), and now the client does not ask me to isntall it again and i cant find a link to download it, a GM told me to follow the link on the log in screen, did so, now i am here.
If it would have been possible to keep #1 and ignore #2 and #3 i'd probably be fine, i'm sure theres a reason to remove #1 and #2 to get #3 rolling, but there really should be a way to choose the time when I want to install #3, not the first time i start the client.
Maybe i just overlook something but i'd be really happy to be able to install it, as withotu any of those optional patches, i'm not even logging into eve, because it sucks without them for me :D.
Will there be a #4, so i can just ignore eve for a while and download #4 then? :P

Edited by: leoplusma on 08/10/2010 20:25:07 Edited by: leoplusma on 08/10/2010 20:24:12 alright, i understood why those patches are optional. i had issues with 1.1, the first patch did nil, the second did help a bit, the third one is a disaster, as i have more issues than i had with original 1.1 (actually, i now face the jumpin' of windows that i was reading from other players but didnt really had it as a problem never before)
let me state that i play with 3 pc and problems are all same to every installation.
also, in NONE of those patches solved the problem of the AGENT CONVERSATION window. and as i have posted twice this bug and no fix whatsoever, i am going to explain it once more, hoping it will be fixed someday.
i am docked. i start conv with agent. accept. i MINIMIZE the window by double clickin' its window title bar. undocking. damn u scotty. warping to gate. jumping. double click on the window title bar, the window is maximized. but it is EMPTY. both panels, left and right. i have to click on the scrollbar on the right of each panel to wake ui up and show whats written inside.
ty for your time (pls try your best next optional patch)

I have noticed with the last option patch that when you go to compose or reply to an eve mail in game, it messes the message completely up when you hit a carriage return for a new line.
Also, when you are copying and pasting within the same window, it does even stranger things (like copying and pasting parts of the message that was not even highlighted or pasting in a completely different portion of the message all together)
I have no idea how if should file a bug report as the problem is not consistent. also do not know what information i should provide in the bug report for it to be useful and pass filtering.

I see large numbers of posts in this topic, inclue my last post, have been deleted for some reason.
YOU CANNOT CENSOR US CCP, IT WILL ONLY WORK AGAINST YOU!!
In essence im using the 3rd optional patch and the double overview list (each item appearing twice) is NOT been fixed even though its listed in the patch notes as being fixed.
So basically 3 optional patches later there is still broken stuff from the 1.1 patch, so we had a patch to fix a patch, then a patch to fix a patch to fix a patch, then a patch to fix a patch to fix a patch to fix a patch.
Are you going to go for optional patch #4 now CCP? Maybe if you actually tested these patches BEFORE releasing them we wouldn't need so damm many of them.
Now go ahead, I dare you to delete my post again CCP! YOU CANNOT SILENCE US, WE WILL BE HEARD!

O rly? Well ofc not :) :) still bugged -.-

You CCP annoy the hell outa me, I spend RL cash for you guys to deploy patches that don't fix SFA and just screw a whole bunch of other stuff up, windows still not remembering placements, like every time I reopen the orca corp hangar its way over to the left, and corp votes, ever tried to lock down 50+ bpo's when you have to open each tab and vote where once you could open them all and hit the vote button on a bunch of them.
This is a serious failure, I've lost what little confidence there was in CCP. What would be good is for you to give me all the money I spent on this game for 5 toons over the last 2 years and I'll go and buy myself a life.

I see funny thing and don't know is it a bug or not. When I import stuff to the planet, I usually do that one thousand of each at a time, to see if it fits. So I'm dragging 1000 pieces of water, electrolytes, toxic metals and so on to the middle column - and after I click execution button, I see all this reappear on the left (customer's office) list, as a separate positions from the ones I've took them (so I have 5430 toxic and 1000 toxic on the list), and then move one by one to the planet. In the 1.0 they were just instantly transferred - is this one-by-one new method a bugfix or workaround of a kind? Or was it always that way, just now my client got so slow I actually can see it?

You are completely misunderstanding how the optional patches work and how we hotfix the client (and the server). We release hotfixes as soon as they are ready. So when the first batch of fixes was ready we released client hotfix #1, when the second batch was ready then we released client hotfix #2 that included all the fixes from #1 as well, and so on and so forth.
I can fully understand the complaints about what we broke in the UI refactoring in Tyrannis 1.1. But I don't understand why you want us to wait until every single issue is fixed and then release a big patch. Why don't you want to get the fixes as soon as they are ready?

No, they didn't; any issues that are still lingering stem from the original release.

Evemail never works for me since the hotixes( ok suppose that's been broken since 1.1, not sure). Enter and delete warp/split sentences to another location. CTRL+V or righ-click-copy a killmail will copy the entire killmail except for the last 10 odd characters regardless of the size of the killmail.

As a software support application specialist working for a huge company, I just want to say:
1) ALL software has bugs, the sooner you accept that the happier you will be - even if a "perfect" app could be developed, it would cost wayyyyyy too much and there would be no EVE.
2) At only $15 per month, I understand bug fixes will take time ... I'm actually glad resources are limited so that the price can be kept down at a reasonable level.
3) I'd rather have the fixes as soon as possible, rather than waiting for a complete package.

I am tempted to do a youtube video to show you how broken it is but I'm lazy. Also, if i did do a video, it would not be a flattering one for both eve and its staff.

I tried EVE Mail just earlier and it's not broken. I'm not dismissing that you are experiencing issues but you have to be more specific than to shout "EVE-MAIL IS IN FACT BROKEN!" again. Shouting and hurling personal insults at me are not going to get us anywhere.
A measured and methodological approach will however. Yes, why don't you make a video? A video along with reproduction steps will help us in identifying the issues that you are experiencing.

sometimes there are dupicate entries in the overview.
window size and position for containers are not being saved for each container. they seem to open where that last one was moved to. same for wreck windows.
i've noticed the crashes when warping into a mission area is up slightly. system population is generally under 30 players. no crashes warping between systems.
we gonna need a 4th patch. |

We are looking into the duplicate entries and have a suspicion what the issue might be.
We have a fix for the containers pending for the 4th patch. Note that we are fixing the behavior of station containers and other non-wreck containers. This is intended behavior for wreck containers.

I apologize if you took my reply personal. I meant no disrespect; however, you have to agree that just because EVE-Mail works on your test/development clients does not mean that it will work on ours.
So when you said, "And EVE Mail and Copy/Paste are not broken" I took it as dismissing the problem with, "working as intended" and took offence. (Not to mention I was still on troll mode )
Anywho, a fine gentleman, by the name of CCP Stillman, is working with me to try to reproduce the issue. This is a tuff issue to nail down and reproduce so i will be working closely with Stillman to try to get it reproduced on your end.

I am sorry but you are mistaken. I replied to a mail that contained a reply of reply.
Enter would introduce a "-------------------------" line in some random location or wold break a paragraph above the one I was writing and delete some characters and some times the same ENTER would be pasting two random pieces in such random place creating some quite funny sentences.
I could not replicate it with simple emails, but I hope you are not JUST testing simple mails with no reply, right?

After the 4th patch (pending) then the following should happen:
Every station container (and other similar containers) should open in its last known position; the window location will be stored for each container.
Wreck/loot containers should open in the last position that any such container was opened in; the window location will be stored globally for wreck/loot containers.

You are mistaken saying "And EVE Mail and Copy/Paste are not broken.".
You later expand about you not being able to reproduce the issue but with the above statement talked as an absolute, you don't encourage people to keep bug hunting.
Also, how can we reproduce something that happens twice a day over 10 mails? That would be stuff that would require writing more unit tests on the line of the combat player sim created to check combat / lag issues.
Edit: the above to say: we as individuals don't have visibility over statistical grade events, it gets hard to spot them right when they happen. - Auditing & consulting

If I would accept the statement "EVE Mail is broken" as an absolute then (1) no one would be able to write, send or receive EVE Mails and (2) no one would keep bug hunting for the specific issues that we are looking for. Same for Copy/Paste.

Eve Mail is broken as in, you can't select a part to autolink (you select a few letters, but it selects off-key, so if I write 12345, and mark 345, it will think I am selecting 123, you cant ctrl-enter without messing up 5 rows, it's just extremly buggy with editing, or writing more then a row, and having a enter there. _________________ --- Snatch Victory - Rivqua - Omega Wing ---

This is same bug as the double overview/double items in the hangar. Since you didnt FIX double overview, but only masked it there is still double overview (when undocking), double items in hangar and this one .... after 3 patches.
Its not always both next to each other, sometimes duplicates pop up down the list and screw up sort order :

I seem to be able to reproduce the mail issue where by you type a nice long email, hit return on the keyboard a few times and it all gets jumbled up. This is getting very annoying to say the least. Is this a known issue and is there a timeline to get this fixed at is severely limiting the mails I can send and I am getting fedup of re-typing them. |

Hi CCP Explorer, does this change also include the wreck window size? It's more annoying that each wreck window size resets to a size that can only fit 2 icons in it, then the position resetting IMHO. For each wreck I have to resize, than select all then move the loot. It is more mouse-work to do the same thing as it did pre-patch.

your patch policy is a joke! can't you see that.
now you call your patches optional? if i don't install them i have problems, am i right? so please, please, please, if you release the next big patch - test it before so that no "optional" patches are needed. every small software corporation wouldn't be able to do something like this to their customers because their customers would simply look for another similiar software which is working! For me it seems that CCP twits their customers and i really think that i won't extend my 3 accounts next year. everytime new features are added something new is broken and old bugs aren't fixed.
i really think that EVE is becoming too big for CCP and so doesn't know where to start fixing things first.

I dont think its too big for them, more a case of the man at the top has a set guideline of what he wants to happen and the dates that they will be implemented. The fact that bugs appear seem to be of no interest to him as long as it proceeds along at the timescale he has planned.

I think we are playing a game of semantics here. We, the players, use the word "broken" in the context that eve-mail is not working in a intuitive and consistent manner.
You use "broken" in the literal since, as if EVE-Mail is completely unusable.
It is true that you can still send mail and compose short messages without too much trouble; however, if you try to compose a complex message and use copy & past for editing, it is "broken" ! This is because EVE-Mail does not function consistently when using copy & paste functions as compared to before the patch. (Issue is still present in the 3rd optional patch)

Try it in Windows, double clicking in the column headers in Windows Explorer will change the sort order. What you should in EVE (as in Windows) is to double click on the column separators in between the column headers. That will resize the column to the left of the cursor. You will find EVE and Windows to behave the same way.
With all due respect, do you use windows? Because that is not how MS Windows works.
SINGLE-click column header sorts column. DOUBLE-click header sorts column twice...ascending, then descending.
KB
With all due respect, but what the Dev described is EXACTLY how it works in windows. You are getting confused between clicking on the column header vs the column header seperator (the line in between the columns in the column header).
Clicking on the column header changes the sort order, double clicking sorts it first one way then the other. Double clicking on the seperator though resizes the column to the left of the mouse cursor to an "auto size" that should expand/shrink the column to the exact width of the content being displayed in the column.
Go check your facts again because frankly sir you are wrong and CCP are right in this instance.
Again, to be clear...the behaviour in EvE is NOT the same as MS Windows.
Windows: Single click column HEADER: sorts column Double click column HEADER: sorts column twice Double click column DIVIDER: resize column to accomodate largest entry
EvE: Single click column HEADER: sorts column Double click column HEADER: sorts column and resizes column to accomodate largest entry Double click column DIVIDER: resizes column to accomodate largest entry
So again, Explorer's claim that "You will find EVE and Windows to behave the same way" is incorrect.

I have also been getting the disconnects but mine started with the first of the patches not the patches for that patch. So uninstalling the optional ones for me makes not one bit of difference

Because still, after these patches, copying, pasting, and cutting are broken when there are links involved in the edited text part.

Anyone else experiencing these crashes?
I am. I've almost reached the point of reinstalling my whole computer, but I'm doubting that's the problem. Mine seems to crash on timeouts. If I open something that takes longer than usual (restack all items in pos bins in null, open evemail, jump to busy system, etc), it seems to just time out and close the socket. I turned detail all the way down, cleared cache, defragged my drive, scanned for viruses & spyware, and everything else I could think of but the problem won't go away. Everything else works fine.

I thought this would be the 4th patch for the patch that was patched, wft is going on 7th or 13th of october? is this another epic fail patch? they say they have 600 people working on eve compared to the 40 or so a few years ago, are you sure you employed people and not monkeys?
im sorry i dont usually complain but this is just getting silly and very anoying.

But they both work in general and there are edge cases that we are trying to figure out.
Yes, I use "broken" in the literal sense, in particular if there are no details on how it is broken or what parts of it are broken.
We are still trying to find what, when and how issues arise in EVE Mail.
I have experienced the copy/paste shifting (described as broken) in both Eve Mail and the the in game notepad. Specifically for the note pad if I copy something and paste it into the eve chat window or eve mail it cuts off the beginning and adds a word or two or some characters to the end of the paste (even though it was not highlighted).
One thing I have noticed pasting into the chat window is sometimes there will be extra space between lines... I copy and paste a lot of questions... So when backspacing through the extra characters I find that it deletes this extra space and skips deleting the question mark i.e.(disregard '//') ..... last word//blinking cursor//?
It is almost as if there is an object that is getting picked up in the copy process and deposited in the paste process.
I hope this helps troubleshooting the issue. It is a big issue for anyone who does recruiting for their corp. ---- edit: When copying information from the in game browser I do not get the shifting problem when pasting into Eve Mail/notepad.

Whilst you all complain, id like to draw your attention to something that should put this all into comparison.
SOE -> Star Wars Galaxies: New Game Enhancements, Combat Upgrade and GCW PvP Upgrade. If CCP manages to do what SOE did with these 3 "upgrades", then go ahead and complain, until then, give them credit for at least fixing errors quickly.
CCP, thanks for the speedy fixes and for the great work...not to mention a damn near perfect game. Looking forward to Incarna btw

when you have spent over ú300 on a game over the years you expect it to work perfect not (near perfect)

So, let me get this straight, you spend x number of dollars and complain when a complex piece of code is patched for you? For fracks sake a bunch of humans wrote it, with one of the sweetest client server arrangements I've seen and it has some some bugs. Wow. Software with bugs.... I've never heard of that happening. What a tragic thing. Shall we take them out and hang them? Shall we also cut off our noses coz they drip when you get a cold??? YES! Lets go and hang some fallible human beings because the forum whining queens are complaining that it's interfering with their lack of life.....

No1 said nothing about hanging...so get real! It's about things getting worse. They ware better before...so you can get this straight! And yes we spent ans still spending money on this game, and so do you. So we all want to have the time of our life. CCP has developed a very good near perfect game. Nothing is perfect. No1 was complaining about that. But we want things that were working to work again. And patches to do their job: fix things that got wrong. Is so hard for you to get this???/

Calm down, lol. Anyone care to take a guess at how many individual program codes are in a game? It goes without saying that conflicts in code will always happen and they arent intentional...when they make an intentional problem, then its all good to complain ;)
