PETITION
For the immediate INVALIDATION of results and RE-JUDGING to determine the Top-15 entries in the ôEVE Online: Create a Starship Contestö held by DeviantArt.com for the creators of EVE Online, CCP, specifically based on the widespread outcry by the EVE community and for this RE-JUDGING to be done based on the original, official rules and requirements of the contest as found at http://news.deviantart.com/article/128272/ and to be completed ONLY by the EVE Online creative staff.
To: CCP, creators of EVE Online, and the DeviantArt.com Staff and Contest Judges.
From: The Below Signed, representing the EVE Players, community members and Artists participating in the ôEVE Online: Create a Starship Contestö
In Response To:
1. The widespread outcry of the community related to the judgesÆ unbalanced and poor selection of the Top-15 (as described by a vast number of community comments) in relation to the many thousands of other valid contest designs.
2. The outcry by the EVE Online community and DeviantArt.com artists and others (hereafter known as ôthe communityö) regarding the judging, and methods used, in the selection of the Top-15 entries as determined by the DeviantArt.com staff judges in the ôEVE Online: Create a Starship Contestö
3. The outcry of the community regarding the judges overt disregard for the official judging rules and basis of ôOriginality, Creative Presentation of the Task and Technical Artistic Skillö per the contests official rules and suggestions found on http://news.deviantart.com/article/128272/ and in relation to the Top-15 entries selected.
a.This statement specifically asserts that the judges did not accurately judge entries based on these three above specified design requirements, as reflected in their selection of the top-15 entries and the widespread community outcry to this, and thus did not accurately portray to all contestants what would and would not be the basis for selection as a semi-finalist.
4. For generally angering, irritating and dumbfounding (summarized as ôpublic dismayö for the purposes of this point) the vast majority of contest artists, DeviantArt.com users and the EVE Online community in general.
a. For the purposes of this above statement, may it be shown that the general public dismay made apparent by the judging of the contest is in direct relation to the multiple above points under ôIn Response Toö
By signing below (or replying in Forum Post, Reply or Comment) I hereby acknowledge that I agree to support the above PETITION by the EVE Community and DeviantArt.com Community to have the judging of this contest invalidated and re-judged directly by the EVE Online creative staff.

It's well known that judging is subjective. But, you should check out the many thousands of contest entries here first: http://browse.deviantart.com/contests/2010/eveonline/
and then check out the top-15 as selected by DeviantArt staff here http://news.deviantart.com/article/133308/
A complete travesty. Thousands of people are united in uproar over this "judging". That's why I've posted this community petition to be signed by those in agreement.

The fact that of the 15 finalists, maybe (and this is being very generous) five of them actually fit the style of EVE. The others are a mix of decent but not-EVE-related designs, and utter trash like THIS. Meanwhile designs that were popular with the EVE community were ignored.
The reason for this is the simple fact that deviantart sucks. Had this contest been run on a more respectable CG art site, we wouldn't he having this problem.
