this should've been in there.
IMHO, that should be the winner, it's so full of awesome, but it should have made the final 15 easily.
Just looks like a minmatar myrmidon to me, I think there are better entries than this but it seems to have now been added to the shortlist in place of the LA battlecruiser and I can't deny it is more worthy than that.
To be honest I'd think it'd be very difficult to introduce some of these empire faction ships to the roles the artist had designed them for without making them an tournament prize or something similar as it'd mean adding in a whole tier or ship class somewhere then coming up with designs for the other three races. I'd much rather see something more original that could be a pirate faction or even a canidate for something like a sisters of eve exploration ship *hint hint*.
The amount of designs for minmatar, gallente or whatever battleships was a bit disappointing and a lot like that tornado just seem like a rehash of other ship shapes with a generic faction skin on it - not that there aren't some empire faction designs that show thought and originality, but the tornado wasn't one of them.

Quote: Since this journal was posted, it's evident that the EVE community is sincerely passionate about their world and deviantART's position on the semi-finalists and I completely appreciate this. To that end, it is important to note that deviantART is involved in this contest to provide artist participants who individually bring to their respective works different levels of understanding towards the task. Dedicated players of EVE who have a deep, intimate relationship to the game will likely use a different lens in viewing what the artists have produced than would the skilled artists we used to judge the contest semi-finalists. When you blend two worlds, that of the arts and that of EVE, you cannot expect the result to look only as EVE would have it be. dA welcomed the EVE community into deviantART. It would be nice to see that welcome reciprocated with some level of understanding and some level of respect if not for the company called deviantART then for the community of deviantART and its artist members.

I call shananigans.
Contest was for EVE. Not for deviantART. We should be able to expect ships that fit into EVE, not that they were somehow "pretty".(where quite a few Entries arent even that.)

the fact that the LA battleship got in is proof enough.

I accept that Deviantart should be free to choose the semifinalists and the winners of the contest in any way they choose. However, I think it should ultimately be CCP's decision on which design from the whole contest makes it into the game. Deviantart has the right to judge the best ship design in their eyes, but it's obvious that they are totally unqualified to judge which design is best for Eve. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

i didnt submit for the contest but ive run a design agency for 15 years and those were most certainly not the top 15 of the group and i thought far too many didn't even feel like they'd fit into eve under the race class of ships.

Personally i have to agree. CCP should redo the judging themselves. just the inclusion of the LA Battlecrapper makes me think there has to be FAR better ones out there that have been looked over and would fit into our universe or even be seriously better in an artist/art critics point of view. Them putting the Tornado (even though i think its a sexy ship)in place of the La battlecruiser, while admirable.. just doesn't cut it.
Deviantart dropped the ball on this one and while their efforts were... admirable... its time to pass the judging back into the hands of CCP.
(although we all know this isn't going to happen.) ----

Christ on a bike, this really is a farce.
When was the last time anyone remembers getting GOOD news about something EVE-related? You know, when you read about an upcoming change or addition and think, "That's gonna be awesome!"
In my recent memory, only Align To Bookmark has been a pleasing change. And that came with a patchscade full of highly annoying bugs.

This is the first I've actually heard of it, but after checking out all the entries, then the 15 that got picked, I'll have to sign also. Most of the 15 picked are utterly awful and would look entirely out of place in the game, although 2 or 3 they picked are pretty good.
