Trust me, it's an uproar when (just based on DeviantArt.com stats in the past 2+ hours), of the 545 comments already posted directly to the DeviantArt.com contest top-15 announcement page more than 500 of those are negative or rejecting the results, the "announcement story" has been rated as making 57 people "Mad/Sad" and only 9 "Wow/Joy", and that the story has been "rejected" by readers 97 times and "liked" 45 times. Or you can just be perceptive and look at the reaction of those around you on this forum, in game, or browse the DeviantArt results announcement page here: http://news.deviantart.com/article/133308/
The general sense is: "what the hell were the DeviantArt judges thinking?!"

My/my corpies/my friends (hencforth referred to as we) picture did not make the final 15 and we are incredibly butthurt. We spent hours on it in MS Paint and the plaid trim and pen!s turrets should have gotten us in. We demand a revote where we will win!

edit: I think it's silly because no matter what the official "rules" of that contest may say the deciding factor will always be what designs CCP can actually envision in EVE (from a gameplay-, design- and backstory-perspective) and that means that many of the super-innovative, well-executed designs will naturally not qualify for the CCP/DA short-list (because they don't fit the potential roles CCP has in mind for this new ship, cannot easily be redesigned/adapted to the style of one EVE faction, ...). A relatively plain design is much more attractive to CCP as it leaves more room to be adapted to CCP's ideas/wishes.
Dunno why people act so surprised by this...

It's called a collective voice. I chose to create a petition that many others could sign on to. I did not MAKE anyone sign it, they only do with their free will. You're not insulting me, you're insulting many. People are mad at the judging. Though you might not believe that, it's true. Thus the petition. Thank you for your comments!

You know, it would've been nice if more than maybe two of the selections made anything like a remote attempt to utilize the well established and recognizable aesthetic of the EVE universe, and maybe were designed with that in mind.

àand here, too, you are presuming too much. How many of those are the same people expressing their discontent over and over again, discussing back and forth how awful the selection was? I saw a fairly large repeat rate as I paged through it.
Again, it would serve your argument far better if you made those kind of grand statements after you knew how great a support you had, and until then, simply state what you thought and ask people to show their support.

some of the entries have potential for the Eve Universe but it's clear that, although the artists have talent, they really have no idea what would "fit" within the universe; which should have instantly ruled them out of any semi-Final. Is the point here not to come up with a ship fitting the current Universe and IP rather than tearing it to shreds and saying "I'll do what I want, the IP can bend to my will"?

Go read the rules, there where reference on making something that fit in eve universe, giving example of how a ship should look(so a big image with already existing ships). CCp can stop this anytime soon they just should say that CCP told DA judges to use some sort of unknown chose factor that comed to select already existing ships, bad looking others... and just 3-4 of all the awensome work that where. I have done myself a ship, it's not a very good one but DAMN it's a lot better than many of those, and still more original, and fit in eve! And i learned 3d model/gimp from 0 WHILE the contest where already on! This is ridiculus!
There are work that are some state of art that you cant think why they should not add those ship(even replace existing ones with those) ASAP! Even all the work from eve comunity where far better than most of those!
Or as i think they will say "we knew nothing but we are sorry, there is nothing we can do"...or as i hope(because i love the game and i think CCP is a good company) maybe they will arrange something, maybe not a re-judge(what is done cant be undone) but...something!

I don't typically post on the forums but I just had to when I saw the semi finalist.
Some surely belong there, and others well...In the end its a matter of opinion but I'd have to say there are a few that just don't merit being up there. (Was hoping so bad for the Tornado!!!)
Never had an experience with DA before but just from this I know to avoid them in the future.
