in my experience ive tried repeatedly to try get other girls on EvE. understandably, theyre not keen for it because understandably, theyre 16 to 23 years of age.
but each time i show them the game i get the exact same reply:
"these boys are perverts. no thanks."
i simply mention that there is a girl nearby watching the game and i automatically get 50 convo invites asking to talk to her.
i know 14 genuine women in EvE and each of them is telling me they dont like it because of all the (censored) perv men.
im not asking to ban every guy, im asking those guys to show some (censored) decency for heavens sake!
its disgusting!

Pretty much any corporation/alliance i have been in would kick people who cant behave themselves, and so would their allies. So it should be possible for them to find a group where they arent bothered by such stuff.
Imo it stays a bit weird, i hear quite often about such problems girl gamers have, but i have never actually seen them happen (granted i am not a girl, but still apparently it also happens in public chats. In all the years i have played online games i have seen it happen a total of one time, and that was in a shooter where the offender was promptly met with lots of abuse from everyone else and friendly fire.
And while i definately think the real cases the offender should get permaban, there is of course also some kind of htfu part for the joke cases (which might sometimes be misplaced, but still). Same as if someone says: "Thats so gay" you dont need to see it as an attack on gay people.

I could have quoted so many posts but the answers seem to come in a number of types
1. They love it 2. Girls should man up 3. They should complain to CCP 4. They should kill the offender 5. There Corp should kick offenders 6. "Well i dont do that" and i equals everyone. 7. Shut up 8. There will be more women when they can play dress up in station (holy **** i hope they were trolling) 9. Im a troll 10.Block them
Pretty interesting as there was a lot more 1. than i thought that there would be. But it would seem that the best course of action would be
1. Carebear. To block and let the corp leaders no. complain to CCP. 2. PvP Kill on site policy until they are back in the startup ship with nothing left to play for.
Internet people will always be different from normal people but thankfully there are plenty of norms on here and for the most part any women that hooks up with the norms will just be able to play the game as they want to.

Ghoest, speaker for the dead women?
When you start using "most" in a sentence containing a social group that you are not a member of, you should just stop. Women can speak for themselves, you know?
How many boys playing this game have the balls of Mynxee or any of the Hellcats?
Why would that be?
I think if your talking in generalities being a member of the generic group actually gives one a less objective perspective where the self is overly weighted.

So women are interested in eve to overcome the fear that naturally comes with being a girl obviously, but they do overcome it, by building a new SOCIETY! I mean, beeing a geek and stuff, i didnt understand anything at first, but you made it all clear.
As someone said before, i for one welcome our new female overlords. Instead of hunting flies in your bedroom, now you get to kill alliances. All because they are so insecure...
Do get some real interaction with girls please... and no, your mother does not count.
Huh? Whf does this have to do with insecurity?
When i said ' adult' the presumption was that Im talking about people with a degree of self actualization. Im not talking about boys and girls using EVE as proxy world where they can compensate for real life fears.
Im talking about people who use EVE for something they enjoy but cant do IRL. Most women dont spend much time thinking how cool to would be to go go techno commando and establish domian that way(a few do though.)

Well, I am female and I have never been harassed in Eve. Of course, I do not play MMOs the way most people do - that is, I don't interact with other players at all if I can avoid it. Having said that, I have been harassed in other games and have no reason to believe it is not as bad as other MMO games where PvP exists.
I'm not certain why there isn't a larger female population in EVE, but my guesses would be that women are turned off, generally, by the malicious attitude this game promotes, that they aren't much interested in space combat and the lack of any real "lore" or storyline makes it less inviting.
I play solely because I like the economic simulation. I stick to hisec and honestly, will probably not be playing much longer because the game isn't holding my interest (in addition to the absolutely horrible support and programming snafus).
Any of my female friends who game, when I mention EVE to them, just laugh and roll their eyes. I haven't delved any more deeply into what that means.

Yes, that she did, and totally disproved your main theory with the not socializing part.
The issue with generalizing here is, that you cant. Women arn't the borg, they are different people with different motivations.

TBH I think there are two problems, one is pervy guys, and the other is girls who KNOW THIS and still are like "hi guys imma girl".
People who talk on vent and just happen to be a girl RARELY get comments made in my experience, it's when the girl either out of stupidity or misplaced desire for attention throws out that they are a girl as sort of an invitation for problems.
I'm not trying to blame the victim, but it's like celebrities and the paparazzi, actors who don't want to be involved in that crap aren't, and the ones who are in the spotlight aren't exactly helping their case.

"Women aren't cylons" would be more contemporaneous.

What you're referring to as "internet men" is real life males. Social intelligence is a gift and many folks just lack it.
What I believe is that woman who do stand or enjoy the topic of robust steel ships in cold space shooting each other up is a minority. There is no fluffy creatures nor flowers in EVE. There's no good option to showcase what you collected being a collector (== wearing shoes in real life) either. Station waking + microtransactions might change some of that.

ok, to this any woman playing eve, should 1. Admit they are girls! 2. Then tell people they are 45, even if they are not... 3. Married (even if they are not)with 2 kids who want to kick mommas ass with Dust514... 4. Block everyone who is a tool!
It saddens me that someone who plays will consider giving up on this beautiful game because of the "Tools" in the game.

Im totally missing the insecurity thing here. How is suggesting that most women find fake wars and pwning to be unattractive or boring, a sign of insecurity?
If anything its a negative cometary on men(although I think its more neutral thing.)

Oh i do with pleasure, cause its funny every time i read it.
"I like EVEs cut throat nature, and Im sure some women do to. But most women are more interested in over coming fear and stupidty by by building socities rather than simply reveling in the misery."
I THINK you meant socializing tho, building a society means the girl would have to be quite the ****.
At any rate, you are generalizing each and every girl with what you say, thus im quite sure that your real life conversations with them are limited. That is nothing i hold against you, that would be stupid. I think you simply lack experience.
Tho, please stay as you are, currently you are one wonderful source of entertainment.

Enlightenment: Wait for it....
Women are not unaware what just the IDEA of their **** will get them in an internet spaceship game. And, enterprising as we are, we are capable of being vultures and victims in the same moment. So, defend us all you want. But know this, with every ounce of dedication, time spent chatting, those seemingly very personal PMs, manipulation is the key. And it's done well. Because, as you sit with your towel in hand, waiting for that epic photobucket link we promised if you'd just buy us a CNR, we've already schlicked twice to your demise and moved on.
