Well, I made it into the game and flew my ship around for a minute before the game disconnected. That gives me some hope.

Edited by: Gorbetroff on 01/12/2010 06:27:59 wish it would work for me, but unfortunately, it doesn't.
For those who are still looking for options to try, i read about changing the port to use. Heres the post:
Originally by: GM Retrofire If you are not able to connect to port 26000 we have another port open for players with this problem.
In order to use port 3724, it will be necessary to open your prefs.ini file. You can find the file in the following location.
Press Windows Key + R and paste the following line into the Run window.
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility if you use Windows XP %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility if you use Windows Vista.
Edit thr PREFS.INI file and change port=26000 to port=3724 Save the file and then launch the client and try connect.
It didn't work for me, but it was worth a try

Kansas State student here - same problem. Wtflux? Why college networks? My college has anti-torrenting features in place that prevent us from torrenting without using Tor to get around it. Could this be interfering with EVE?

I bet it has something to do with the "resnet" software. From doing a quick google search it seems that most colleges use it. I may be wrong though.

I can confirm that resnet is used in at least some capacity at WPI (though I believe a heavily modified version). This is something to definitely consider.

Yeah, Resnet is dumb. I hate it. I had a Euro version of Windows 7 installed on my pc and they wouldn't authorize it because it was a Euro version. Resnet is ebil - and that's what I was talking about as far as the torrenting stuff. Resnet blocks it.

I read KSU and got excited, and then realized its Kansas State. No one plays at my University...
But yeah I can confirm that Kent State in Ohio also uses resnet software. Infact, they're so lazy here, they call the whole department ResNet. Stupid lazy ****'s ------------------ I'm not sure if my eyes are actually bleeding, or if it's merely my brain bleeding out through my eye sockets, but either way, it hurts to read what you just wrote |

I'm having the same issue, University of Manchester, UK. I can connect fine through the paid VPN I sometimes use, so that'll have to do for now.

So far we have: 8 from WPI 1 from Minnesota 4 from Kansas State 1 from Truman State 1 from University of California 1 from University of Tennessee 1 from Stephen F. Austin State University 3 from Kent State 2 from LeTourneau 1 from University of Manchester, UK
23 people reporting issues from campuses so far. (If I counted right...)
Possible work around Here. I've had success just starting the client and letting it set for at least 15 minutes before trying to log in.

OpenVPN may work for people, if they want an English language version.
Personally, I don't feel like putting my username and password through a VPN, so if anyone else wants to test this, don't hesitate.

Yeah they do the same here. So I'll be going down there after my first classes tomorrow and seeing what they say. I'll post what they say and whatnot. It'll be interesting to hear their excuse this time. "Oh, you're using the European client" or some such nonsense. I'm about 75% sure this is a ResNet problem and not a CCP problem.

If you're still experiencing this problem then please send those log server files in via bug reports. https://bugs.eveonline.com/newbugreport.asp
We're very actively looking for a solution and are happy for all the help you can provide. If you happen to be at the same college as other EVE fans and can't log in:
- Submit a bug report with logserver file and/or wireshark trace.
- Post the name of the nearest pub.
- Arrange a time to meet there.
- Meet and drown your sorrows in a pint while we work hard to get you back online.
- I'm buying the first round!

What are you reading?
I'm a life sciences fresher And yeah, hornet and the IT services people are a bunch of ****ers. Internet in our flat often goes down far too often, and all they can say is "I 'unno" if you ask them whats up. I emailed them asking about the eve issue, asking if it's anything on their end. There response was "Your network connection should be used for study" Good thing I set a long skill to train, I'm not really too keen on over using the VPN

I'm a CS fresher myself. Haven't phoned them yet, but at least my connection is stable most of the time. Hangs occasionally when I download anything over a gigabyte. They're nice and friendly, and apparently like to scan what I download. Nice to know the money sink that is our awful internet can be used however we like.
At least my skills were long too, but I'd like to be able to set up some production lines and whatever else. I'll drop you a message if I get any response from Hornet. Might see if anyone else has had this issue, too.

I checked with our network/security guy and something in the data stream was getting picked up as "bit-torrent encrypted traffic" and therefore was getting squashed.
he made an exception for CCP's IP ranges and I can log in now

A more tech savvy player from K-state should contact res.net support on campus and see if they can change anything.

Well, I see 87.237.38.200:26000 in the Log Server
So, I'm guessing that's what you want.

we just exempted all traffic to this IP block 87.237.32.0/21
I'm not sure if you will be able to talk your network guys into doing the same or not, but it's worth a try

I've contacted some of the universities listed (not gotten the best responses so far but one was promising) and we're trying to find out what specifically is alerting on the Eve client communications. My assumption (which may prove wrong) is that we're generating a false positive in some bandwidth management or IDS signatures.
Your best results at your schools (Not WPI we've been in touch with them and they're super helpful) will be to contact your support departments at the schools yourself and have them create an exemption. Bonus points if you can get them to email me at [email protected] and explain to me what product is flagging on the Eve client so that we can work on getting that fixed.
Thanks a bunch guys |
