So far everything is progressing according to schedule. Database updates are running, new code has been deployed and if all goes well we should be starting Tranquility up in testing mode in about 30 minutes and start the first QA dryruns. So far so good.

Having personally done hundreds of similar updates of live services over these many years for calling card servicers, I know how pain can sometimes come to the play.
Customers don't want the excuse. They think it is just a simple thing to uploading the softwares.
Many are the days when I wished I were no more than the clueless customer, not having the worries for the processes.
I will be going to the retirement soon, and I must say, I will not miss the environments of the stress and abuses that we programmers and techinicals face with every new load of softwares at the hands of ignorants customers.
The working you provide are good. Let the mobs scream. You do your jobs well and are in appreciation of many around us who are knowing what it is you do.

you guys scared me for a bit there, when I tried to post and all I got was "YOU DON'T HAVE AN EVE CHARACTER ASSOCIATED TO THIS ACCOUNT!"
fortunately, Grimpak was not deleted without trace from the database so all's good now.

Quick Update:
Server start has been delayed by 2 hours due to a bug being found in assigning skill points, once fixed this create further bugs creating an increase of 17.5 Hours to the downtime on top of the additional 2 hours.
Further more we've rolled the database back to 2003.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Props for keeping us informed.
For the vast majority of us we realise there are sometimes problems with deployment of new code and updates.
Keeping us informed on an ongoing basis prevents the vast majority of crying as we know what's happening with frequent updates.

I am at work and cannot download the download that needs downloading, this is the download that has the data on and without being able to get the download the download I will not be playing EVE Online.
The fact that I can't even play at work anyway is not going to stop me from suing your arses from here to round the corner, I'd sue it further but it's snowing and my little albino legs get cold.

it's in testing phase(I assume)
and the only people online are devs.

Keep an eye on Chruker's server status page if need status updates.
It's up in VIP mode with 25 devs/testers checking stuff (or just having fun). No chrashes or emergency reboots so far ;)

Good Job on the updates it is most appreciated.
On a slightly different note i have noticed a mistake on the download patch page.
If you click on the link that says "how do i find my client version?" it tells you to start your client up and look at the bottom left part of your screen instead of the top left.
I know that this is a minor thing but you can be sure there will be someone out there that will get all confused over not being able to see their client version where it says, and not think to look in other parts of the screen!!
And again thanks for the regular updates

That I did, but the books can only be paid for with 1000 units of faction carebear tears, obtainable only via failfit drops :o

No, they said that it would be up in testing mode, which it was and still is.
I for one is saving my rage until I can log in and find the blatantly obvious bugs that they've missed while playing for hours on me beloved EvE without me being allowed to log in ;)

No, they said that it would be up in testing mode, which it was and still is.
I for one is saving my rage until I can log in and find the blatantly obvious bugs that they've missed while playing for hours on me beloved EvE without me being allowed to log in ;)
They are prolly taking the new ships on a test run against missiles in an incursion and are trying to see how long they can hold out...
Or, they are trying to keep the amount of awesome in check so the server doesn't decide to hold a chip barbecue.

5.376.000 sp to spend on new skills, still not desided on what. Would be good if CCP will put some new mining skills in game, or a huge capital mining vessel, or an ship that can let roids grow while mining them. mmm...maybe if i give them water it would help?

Incidentally we roamed to look for bears the other night- and were reminded just HOW harshly carebeariffic EVE has become as some nub in local would should "dock up" whenever we entered system. When this is back up the first order of business is to cloak up where the rorq was yesterday :)

Tranquility has now been up in testing mode for about 90 minutes. A minor issue has been uncovered which will require a client update to be deployed before startup. Creating and testing the client update will require an extension of downtime by 30 minutes so updated ETA for TQ open is 16:00 UTC.

Do you mean whether that will automatically happen and finish your current skill? If so I haven't a clue :)
But it's intended to be so that you will have a pool of free skill points that you can spend on any skill(s) you like. The amount will equal your total sp in learning section, point for point.

Dear ccp,
It is better to tell the player there will be 8 hour down time and get done early than say 5 hour downtime and delay it 20 times before its done. Especially when, no offense, you always screw something up in the patching process and almost always delay anyway.
Saying "Hey look we said 8 hours but we finished in 6 woo" Make people like you, and they can patch and play and all is well as long as they arnt missing boot.ini, but that would never happen, right?

What they should do is confirm an opening time at least 3 hours longer than what they actually expect. Worst case then is they get to brag about how effective they are when the servers come up an hour early rather than 2 hours late. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

2) For everyone who is complaining; As a programmer for an outsourcing company it takes us weeks to fix small issues and considering they are writing a whole new update for this fix and implementing it in under 30mins... you people should be giving the GM's a BJ in the back all for this.

I know that everyone knows how to use a search engine.. such as google or yahoo, just type in utc time and it shows you a GREAT BIG CLOCK with the current utc time on it, then just switch back and forth between that window and this one and you'll be able to keep track of it just fine and still type more and more posts in this one

Allright, I'll give you a tip - if you're using Windows 7.
Right click on the Clock at the bottom right. Select Adjust Time/Date.
Go to the Additional Clocks tab. Select the time zone "(UTC) Universal Coordinated Time".
With this set - every time you LEFT click on the clock in the future it will display two clocks. The one for your area, and the one for "Computer Time" - also known as UTC. The EVE servers, as the name suggests, runs off UTC.

There is a scene in the movie "Air Fore One", (you know the one Harrison Ford played in) where after assuming control on the airplane the russians (or rebels whatever) think he has escaped the plane in the escape pod, the commander of the russians/rebels/whatever just lets out this series of epic fits of rage that can be compared to William Shatner's Khan line from Star Trek 2. Ya know CCP as other have mentioned already, and as critical as I feel at times about your follow through, I have got to say your efforts to keep the community informed, up to date with current events, even when they are not what we want to hear, are very much appreciated. I have found myself checking the Incursion site often and watching the video updates, and keeping an eye on the dev blogs much more than I used to.
So for what it is worth your efforts are not going unnoticed. And I like many others am anxiously waiting for the skill point reimbursement, and the January patch. And oh by the wayàNO more 24 hours notices one day before the announced release date! Very disturbing!

Patch deployment was delayed due to (in part) that "test server" catching fire. See GD for more info :) I think there were some other deployment issues too as they stated that wasn't the only reason.

To be a little pedantic, no it isn't UTC has leap seconds added to it every now and again to compensate for the slight slowing of the earth's rotation - GMT doesn't do that and as a result is slightly adrift of UTC - of course, not enough that it'd bother you but I figured I'd share that bit of info as people often don't know they are two different things technically

I think that CCP is going a great job so far. And yes, it sucks to have the downtime extended, but when you're programming and working with multiple servers, clients, users, versions, etc. or even programming in general, you can anticipate a lot, if not most, of the problems that could/will happen, but never all. While some of you think that they should instead announce an 8 hour downtime for a 2-hour project...probably not a good idea. It'll just make people whine and complain and demand justification for the length of the downtime. I'm sure they want the server back up just as fast as you do. CCP is a business, and in business, time is money. Incursion so far seems to already be doing better than Tyrannis did, and honestly I'd prefer an extended downtime to 19 patch fixes and extended normal downtimes on a regular basis.

As already posted for Windows 7 - it also works on Vista.
Click your clock -> adjust settings -> additional clocks.
Add one for Eve set to GMT/UTC.
You can then view Eve Time by clicking your clock.

Ok. This chart should help all of you out.
In the chart below, find your time in the local column. Navigate over to the timezone you're in and voila! that's the UTC time. I know simple math is hard for you so let me help you with this. I'll give an example and try to use small words so I don't confuse the issue more. So for example, if the devs say that the server will be back up at 1600, then find your timezone, look down the chart until you see 1600 and then look at the local time to see what time that is for you.
I hope this becomes a useful tool for some of you.

yeah i dont agree with downtime or patch fixes at all. if ccp was an airliner and the first 19 jets it made crashed not only would the company fail but everyone would probably be put in jail for negligant homicide. eve is doing a good job and i understand the reasons for downtime, servers reseting, refreshing, adding little helpful things so you dont have a major system crash and on a sandbox game unlike others where you have to choose a specific server. i understand all of this but i am going to be honest with you. i am impatient, i want my play time now and i dont mind crying like a baby about patches and downtimes to make myself feel better. there i said it.... stick that in your pipe and smoke it. lol j/k keep up the good work ccp.

by suggesting that the design of the new CCP ship leaves much to be desired? Or that having a dedicated
hacking ship is a poor gift when compared to the Noctis or Primae? I know ships in a vacuum aren't bound
by aerodynamics but surely we deserve to fly ships that make us fel good

You're misenterpreting it.
For instance, in the Summer, the UK stops using GMT and instead switchers to BST, which is GMT+1 and is refereed to as daylight savings. GMT stays the same, we just adopt a time that is an hour ahead of it.

In Iceland there¦s no the time is the same in the winter and summer! (while most of the world goes front and back wich is really annoying.)

Did you notice how it didn't mention anything about GMT?
No, GMT does not have daylight savings or summer time. In fact, no timezone has. Instead, (some) nations switch timezones from, for instance, GMT in the winter to BST (GMT+1) in the summer; from CET (GMT+1) in the winter to CEST (GMT+2) in the summer etc.
GMT remains the same all year around.

Why is it so hard to understand that GMT is a timezone and defined as a fixed offset to UTC and thus never changes.
If a country has GMT during winter and a different time during summer it's not because GMT changed, but because the country uses a different timezone offset to UTC, which then has even a different name (like BST or CEST)

In Iceland there¦s no the time is the same in the winter and summer! (while most of the world goes front and back wich is really annoying.)
UTC = No time change.
GMT = time change.
If you want to master people you might ponder doing it right.
The difference between GMT and UTC is purely scientific (the difference are in fraction of a second).
Neither GMT nor UTC does utilise daylight saving or summer time, ever.

Ya know, after 5 years and 4 days of playing... I just get a real kick out of patch days.. the whiners and OMG EVE IS DOWN TO LONGers and what time is the server going to be up'ers. CCP imho are damn good developers and have a very good product (7 years and some of running EvE now) patience is a virtue only the children do not understand.

Americans are so insular and inward looking and ignorant of anything outside their own little patch of land it's incredible to me that any of them want to play a game that takes them into space (except they might hate it so much they want to blow it all up). Surely they would be better off with a game where they can drive around in a v8 with a couple of guns, a bottle of scotch (whisky if you aren't american and know what it should be called), with a bible and shooting everyone who doesn't believe in jesus and walmart.
As a canadian I went to a US tourist town 25 miles over the border and had to go to 6 banks to try and change canadian dollars into US dollars and the manager came out and tried to explain to me how 100 canadian dollars wouldn't get me 100 US dollars... It was a shame as I had a few million lire in my wallet as well.
P.s. If you really believe that a nomadic peasant tribe in the bronze age had a superior knowledge of the universe than contemporary scientists I recommend you put down the bible and have a chat with a mental health worker.

This guy is about as close as it gets, btw wiki is not referancable really, because is is just popular opinion, like trees make oxygen or the earth is flat, sea monsters etc..

Thanks but no need to be a ****. A lot of Americans only know their systems. We aren't exactly taught all the other parts of the worlds systems. Like the metric system. Well at least the older generations didn't really learn it. So all you have to do is be nice and give people a resource who can't be bothered to google. Or just ignore them. I know it seems ass backwards that such a freedom based country with millions of different cultures in it would not learn the way of the rest of the world. But hey that's life huh?

Oh..as to Americans being dumb, As one of the last free market economies, I will remind the world of the generous nature of we Americans. The largest portions of African relief, Haiti, the effected Tsunami areas of the Indian Ocean saw we(not the US government) but we average Americans give in the tens of billions. Where as all those icons of European development..gave little to nothing. Bash your own failures, as of yet, we arent burning cars and attacking royalty just because of paying more for college.

I think the amount of moaning and groaning is a tribute to great job the Devs have done on the game.
We are HOOKED and can not stand to be without our source of pleasure.
PS. American is large enough to have 4 time zones; Texas has two of its own. Most countries only have 1 or two. It is wonderful to be able to live, work, play and sleep without having to know what GMT stands. After all, GMT time was established so Britain could coordinate its rule over the world centuries ago. I think it is very childish to criticize one person asking for help, let alone labeling an entire country as 'idiots' when they donÆt have to know what GMT is to conduct their lives.
PPS. Thanks Devs for the wonderful game. I am looking forward as patiently as possible to the new release's completion.
