i, too, feel that salvage should be the property of the shooter.
Which brings up the scenario: What if I bust into your mission and start pumping lead into the same rats you're shooting and out-DPS'ing you, therefore earning ownership of the wreck?
What if I bust into your mish and start pumping lead into the same rat you're shooting but do 49% of the damage where you do 51%? Shouldn't I still be able to get to salvage the wreck since I contributed some tangible portion of the DPS that killed it? In the prior example, shouldn't the you get similar salvage rights?
There's more corner cases here than pro-salvage rights people care to either admit or even consider. It isn't and can't always be a black & white case of (my wreck) || (not my wreck) ... and I presume these cases comprise at least part of the reason why the wreck mechanics are the way they currently are.
CCP has given you mishers tools to do your rat pewing and wreck scraping with efficiency and ease, first with Marauders and now the Noctis, with the former even precluding the need for the RL monetary expense of a 2nd account for a salvage alt. The community has given you the tools to blow through any mission with programmatic ease in the form of mission reports and so forth... so buck up, commit to what you are and stop trying to make believe this is a single-player console game.

Honestly. If Salvage made salvage theifs flashy red, it would make no difference.
But, hypothetically, if it did make us flashy red, assuming you shoot the person, you'd either A) Dock up for 15 minutes. B) Dock and whine in local for 15 minutes. C) Get Killed by the person you shot. D) Get killed and then whine on the forums about how it should be nerfed.
Or. E) All of the above.
Does making someone Red Flashy make you feel better?

this game does promote pirating and scams and being sneeky. and if that really was changed the way you want it people would then just steal your kills. just go somewhere with alot of rats in a salvage ship and do the same thing as everyone else

Not really.
It's my opinion that a good troll requires minimal effort from the troller after the original post - he should write an eloquently worded post, and let the over-reactors fume and spit in impotent rage for 4 or 5 pages. In this case, the OP posted multiple times, and often 3 or 4 times in a row. He really had to grind this one out to get it to three pages (so far).
I used to like reading the stupid analogies that these people would come up with to explain why ninja-salvaging is the worst thing to ever happen in the history of the universe, but after a while it starts to get a little old.
However, I will commit to joining in this thread with various witty comments if someone can come up with something new. I'll even take the side of the mission runners if the ninja salvagers can come up with any new responses. I know it's hard to come up with original responses to the same old whines, but please try! ---------------------------------------------- I don't have an alt, but there's a main that would be upset if he heard me say that... |

1. the junk you produce if you blow up ships is not necessaryly your. If you kill a criminal in RL the dead body and other stuff is also not necessary yours, it depends from the laws applied. ( good examle ) 2. carebear tears of high sec mission runners, because of salvage are fun. They dont have any other problem. And if they have a huge problem with this they are real carebears and dont know so well what they are doing. 3. ninja salvaging is quite low income and only interesting for newbies with no access to lev 4 missions. So let them train the probing skills and have some fun.

When I first started playing I used to ninja loot and salvage level4's in Heimatar. I'd reprocess the crap loot, make it into ammo from researched bp's and sell it back to the mission runners in the same system. Was pretty good isk for not much sp's. |

When I was a wee nubbin and did lvl 4's and had ninjas in my mission, I always said, 'Here you go, have some salvage'. Salvage really is such a small amount of a succesful missioneer's income. It's much nicer to make friends and have someone to talk to during the drudgery and boredom of missioneering.

I solo level four missions and salvage them solo as well. It all comes down to who's the fastest. If you're not fast enough to salvage it, get better. Ninja Looters are out there, they're gonna do it, the trick is to beat them at their own game... The funny thing about friends is that they are a gift that can never be lost, only thrown away. |

^^ This
Back when I ran missions, it was annoying when someone would ninja salvage a site while I was running it. It was even worse when they ninja looted my mission site, which made them flashy and I could shoot them. I didn't however, because it would have been even more of a nuisance. I didn't like running missions, and wanted to get through them as fast as I could so I could get on to more fun aspects of the game.
Right now you get people crashing your mission to get a little isk. If they went flashy, you'd get MORE people crashing your party HOPING you'd shoot at them. It'd be the new version of can flipping. You'd get your expensive mission fit ship blown up (and subsequently looted & salvaged). lol --- Dead Pilots Society |

To all the derpers who say: "Loot belongs to you! Salvage belongs to who gets it first! Working as intended. OPZ iz failnub" Firstly, this is a game. The rules can be changed. That may apply now, but it's possible for there to be change. That argument is completely invalid. It may be "working as intended", but what if the outcome is not expected, or the intended result is dated and doesn't really apply to EVE anymore? Torpedo-Kestrels with actual explosion areas-of-effect (Or whatever they were) may have been intended once, but not anymore. So, I felt like dropping into this trainwreck of a thread to say that.
Anyway, I rat/explore in 0.0 and there can't be ninja salvagers disturbing you there. OP could try the same.

CCP has already spoken about "salvage theft" many many times. You obviously missed this the first time so I'll repost CCPs stance on this subject again.
Per CCP Mitnal: Originally by: CCP Mitnal "Our policy on this is extremely clear... Salvaging is a mini-profession within EVE and does not constitute stealing."
Per GM Faolchu : Originally by: GM Faolchu Salvaging other peoples wrecks.... This is an intended game mechanic and is in no way an exploit. People salvaging your missions npcs or the player you just blew up are doing nothing wrong. The players are salvaging what is effectively floating rubbish in space and Concord places no value on this wreckage. Eve is a harsh place you won't always have everything go your way, its a do or die world and people do what they can to get along. If salvaging some wreckage gets them a few more ISK someone will do it, it doesn't matter who just blew it up.
Per Senior GM Ytterbium : Originally by: GM Ytterbium Players are still completely free to salvage other pilot wrecks at will ... and doing so is not considered as an exploit.
Per CCP Prism X : Originally by: CCP Prism X Why is stealing salvage OK? It's not. It shouldn't even be possible to move an item from your cargo-hold / hanger to another persons cargo-hold / hanger without opening a trade window. Before the salvage enters those containers it is not considered your stuff by the server code. Hence it's not stealing.
Per CCP Incognito : Originally by: CCP Incognito Had a chat with some designers this evening. Ninja salvaging is intended game play. It was always intended that the wrecks are public, the loot is private. They do not see it as a problem if others salvage your wrecks.
(These quotes are kept handy for your convenience at Ironfleet.com.)
If you still don't get it, if you still believe you still have rights to space junk, then you're hopeless and should quit EvE now. You clearly don't understand this game and should go back to WoW. ________ 45 minutes & 720 clicks per six hours. 3 hours & 2,880 clicks per day. 21 hours & 20,160 clicks per week. 4 days & 89,280 clicks per month.

Wont get any complaints from me about that one. I agree it should be flagged as a criminal offense. Or CCP needs to remove the option of "Abandoning all nearby wrecks" this way the excuse "it works as intended" cant be used. as that would then be the case. However since the player that created the wrecks has that option then it is implied that the wrecks are his / hers. As such it should be handled the same way as loot stealing. Once someone turns them from yellow to blue, then and only then should they the wrecks be up for grabs. So long as they remain yellow they are claimed by the player that created them.
