I'm wondering what a good ship combination to dual box would be for most L4s. Mostly Gallente/Caldari missions, but I may move to Amarr or Minmatar if things get boring.
Since one of my computers is an Alienware M11x with a tiny ass screen and my desk is rather cramped at the moment and I have to use the touchpad, using the laptop is a pain in the ass. So I'm looking for a good tank and gank duo to experiment with over the next few months. No deadspace/officer mods, faction mods within reason.
One of my pilots flies Amarr/Gallente, other (lower SP, will take a few more months for T2 BS fittings) fies Caldari/Minmatar. Everything except Marauders is more or less within reach for my Amarr/Gallente character, Minmatar/Caldari can't really fly battleships that well, but can fly Tengu.
I considered using a Noctis+Normal mission boat, but I can't control the salvagers+tractors well on the laptop, so I need a more afkish ship for one of them that requires minimal management.
So some options I've gamed out are:
1. Logi + High DPS Boat that can do at least 800+ to battleships 2. Passive Drake with FoFs + High damage laserboat 3. Dual Rep Domi with Sentries + Shotgun Tengu with high damage, long range, rigor rigged and target painting HAMs. 4. 600 DPS tank Tengu with 600 heavy missile DPS + Mega Pulse Apoc that deals somewhere around 750 DPS with Scorch that is shield buffered.
I think I'm leaning on 4 as it would give me the greatest total DPS while I get to use my T3 I'm getting in a few weeks to good effect.
Total budget is somewhere under 800 mil for both ships+fittings, if I use a T3,thats 500 mil, leaving 300 mil for faction damage mods, a Pithi C-type SSB for Tengu etc.
Considering the real life logistical delays in dual boxing (I'm not very good at switching, even though I've had quite alot of practice by now), what would be the best setup to go with?

Raven/Raven/CNR? Raven/Domi/CNR? Tengu/Raven?
Be my top 3 choices but I'm biased as I've used all 3 to great success but I'm running a dual screen desktop so that makes life easier.
For the laptop maybe use an afk ship like the domi or something along those lines so you don't have to mess with it much or go buy a cheap mouse for the lappy from a thrift store or something :P.

Yeah, probably sticking to my current races, takes too much effort to cross train to T2/T3 ships and guns right now.
I have a mouse for the laptop, problem is, I'm in a dorm with a mousebox size desk and I have about 2 inches of space to move it in.

Edited by: Dee Cryptor on 13/01/2011 21:59:43 I used to have a simular problem as this. What I did to give me more mouse area was buy a 10" by 30" Wall self with out the wall mounts and the screwed a piece of clean 2x2" timber to the underside of the shelf, suddenly you have a removable mouse mat for when you need the desk, and for when you play eve your laptop/s sit in the middle with a mouse at either end.
Also, I use a Legion with a shield harmoniser, a shield efficiency and a Evasive maneuvres warfare links sat at a safe while my main flies a Mach with low-grade crystals. can tank any mission I have ever seen so far and punches at (EFT) 1100 dps with Barage and my hardwires.
Hope some of that helped :)

I am using Vargur/Proteus setup for the last month or so and I think it serves me well :-).Vargur provides primary damage and additional storage for looted items while Proteus provides salvaging service and lends it's drones to Vargur for additional damage and support.

If your just using the second ship for drone and salvaging operations, wouldn't a Ishtar be more appropriate/cheaper? Or if you wanted to get really cheap, a myrmidon. ==================== ~/~ Sultan of Buruni |

nope, just need to be in system (and of course in a fleet with a proper structure) but imo dedicating a character to just using gang links is pretty much a waste of a character for running level 4s.

Passive Shield Sentry Ishtar + Pulse/sentry 'Geddon.
A tenth the price of half the combinations above with more damage and tanking.

Sentry Domi for tanking, CNR for ganking.

2 Gank ships is optimal for dualboxing level 4 missions. Just throw some buffer and moderate tank on them and kill the NPC's before they overhelm your tank. Dont be afraid of cap injectors. You dont need to tank the NPC's from DT to DT, only long enough to do the mission without warpout.

I'm with Carn on this. I use a Maelstrom + raven - both with average tank and a decent amount of gank.
The Maelstrom alphas most cruisers/frigs before they get near (even some BC at times lol) while the Raven kinda afk chews up each BS. Once the room is agro'd 10 drones tend to clean up anything else stupidly quick. Cap injectors are god if you can only afford t1/t2 fits . |

I managed to overcome my desktop logistics using Synergy+.
One mouse and one keyboard, but 3 actual computers.
I've even saved some more space by having an external monitor for the laptop (so I can keep it closed, or even off the desk).

I like gank boat plus logi domi. Gank boat is fit for max dps at range and the domi feeds it cap/shields/armor and sets sentry drones to assist it. Could blitz faster with two gunships but shooting with two different accounts is a lot of effort on my part.
