We hope you enjoyed the January 24 Live Dev Blog on game design in the Incursion expansion.
CCP hopes this will be well-received by all of you, but weÆre also interested in whatever constructive feedback you have that will help us improve Live Dev Blogs in the future. Please let us know what you think in this thread, weÆll be keeping an eye on it and taking your views into consideration as we move forward with the Live Dev Blog series.
Lastly, weÆd also like to mention that weÆre planning another Live Dev Blog for the end of February, with further details to be announced mid-February.

Edited by: Iamien on 24/01/2011 22:41:44 One tidbit of feedback, CCP Soundwave is leading way too much with the questions. He is answering the question as he asks them as if presenting a friendly witness in a courtroom.
Also, next to 0 actual discussion of the incursions. Seems like you grabbed 3 random guests that were related to incursion and stuck to their aspects of the game.

I liked when Soundwave accidently mentioned something about Battlefields and then quickly said he'd get fired if he continued. I bet you I can guess what this means.

It was a little short - would also love a transcript.

No talk on Black ops, I don't understand why it's taking so long, it's just increasing some numbers and everyone in the CSMs agree on it.

Nice, but short for so much. Might be better to center around a single feature and go in depth.

Meanwhile, in real game related news:
Is it true that Incarna is nothing like we're expecting, and the people on the CSM reacted to it with disbelief and disappointment?

Enjoyed it, thanks CCP . The microphone on the first interviewee was pretty bad so I missed a lot of what he said.
I'm probably flogging a dead horse here, and even though I knew this already, I personally didn't like hearing that Dust is the "number 1 priority".

Edited by: Iamien on 24/01/2011 23:00:07 The one small bombshell that was dropped was that CCP Shark was promoted and now CCP has a Lead UI Designer. Sort of odd that there wasn't one before.
How about the Incursion feature of the new forums? In the Forum devblog CCP Alice promised them to be on the test server last week, nothing so far.

I liked the part where you guys absolutely said nothing worth noting in the whole Live Dev Blog. People pay good money for these skills you know, don't get wasted over Iceland

it was a fine start assuming that the live dev blog will be a usual thing. if there is one next week or in a few days then it was a good thing, if not it was a pretty poor dev blog simply because of lack of content.
the only real issue i had ( assuming there will be many more dev blogs to come) is that sound quality wasn't amazing, sometimes it sounded like the person talking let go of the push to talk button

Ah, finally managed to hear the whole thing.
Color me flumoxed. What the heck is a "Dust link" and why is it more important than polishing PI? I thought making Tyrannis awesome through giving us polished fun(& profitable) PI would create the needed incentive for planetary war automatically.
Neat but short answers for the rest. Did nobody seriously ask if the missing character accessories will be payed for by micro-transactions or not? ______________ Mal-¦Appears we got here just in a nick of time. What does that make us?¦ Zoe-`Big damn heroes, sir.` Mal-¦Aint we just.¦ |

Edited by: Salyan on 24/01/2011 23:54:04 Overall I was a bit disappointed in the content. Most of the answers tended to be "We're working on it" or "we can't talk about that yet" or "yeah, but it will be awesome after x iterations."
I realize you have to be careful with what you can or can not say, and have to limit your topics to the guest's specialties, but if that is all the question amounts to it doesn't really below in something as special as a live dev blog.
Also, some of the guests seemed to be blindsided by some of the questions ("metrics!?"). Are you guys not pre-screening the questions with the guests? I'm sure you want to give it a "live" feel but having a bit of preparation wouldn't hurt (apologizes if you did - it didn't sound like it).
(Edit: almost forgot, you didn't want to hurt players with the PI changes? Wow... you removed the ability to manufacture high end items on a single planet!)

I wish the blog actually had contained some news, any news.
Also how come none of the submitted Incarna gameplay questions were selected?

CCP Shadow wanted me to post this here so I will. There are two or three parts to what I believe would make the Live Dev Blogs into a valuable and exciting channel of communication.
First of all, It would be nice to hear more from the team members directly working on the game(the grunts) as a supplement to the discussion with the designers. They could better give us actual information on how something is done rather than the general idea of the direction. These general answers are about all a designer can understandably provide as they are involved in so many parts that the small parts lose significance to them. This significance is shared however between the players and the team members that actually make the changes.
In conjunction with the above, I believe it would be a much richer experience for the listener if we can hope for new announcements/newly disclosed details over the Live Devblog. Instead of releasing new announcement solely by traditional devblog and third party media, allow the initial announcement to be made during the live devblog, with the corresponding traditional devblog being released at the conclusion. This would greatly increase the exposure of not only the Live Devblog, but the traditional ones as well; creating a monthly frenzy of community enlightenment.
tl;dr; The Live Dev Blog were sorely missed and if CCP invests a bit of effort into it, I can foresee an unprecedented amount of community participation. Keep the guests varied, the topics new, and allow it to become a regular event that must occur.

Edited by: LMShinigami on 25/01/2011 00:23:46 Just so long as I don't have to transcribe them all myself... lol. For those that missed it or are looking for text transcription, my thread has been linked already I believe. Have the session (mostly) in full recorded as well if you want to listen to it already. CCP is welcome to respost my recordings or transcription logs.
Thread with logs and transcriptions
As for my own responces to it. Alot of the information I knew already, so I can't comment on startling revelations. I do appreciate hearing it from CCP though, and of course, interacting with them rather than them being in the far reaches of jove space is always nice. I look forward to more.

The real problem with PI being profitable is that EVERYONE is going to do it now, since its easy and relatively cheap, so the price of stuff created by it is going to drop like a meteorite

I think its cool that you guys are doing this but..
I think what the players want is some news like stated above. We heard mostly about things already out,on sisi or a few small things to come.
I would like you to throw us a bone and answer some of the bigger questions a lot of people have been asking.
1.What do you plan on doing about the macro bots?If anything at all.
2.What about changing bloodlines?
3.What has become of t3 figates?
4.What are the plans if any on changing local?
5.What do you think about hybrid weapons needing a buff?
5.Will all these limitations in the new character creator be lifted after a whole bunch of players requested it?
Im sure theres many more that people have and that have been flying around the forum forever.Even if its one topic per blog I think it would be great to have some of these touchy topics mentioned.
