I would like you to throw us a bone and answer some of the bigger questions a lot of people have been asking.
1.What do you plan on doing about the macro bots?If anything at all.
2.What about changing bloodlines?
3.What has become of t3 figates?
4.What are the plans if any on changing local?
5.What do you think about hybrid weapons needing a buff?
5.Will all these limitations in the new character creator be lifted after a whole bunch of players requested it?
Im sure theres many more that people have and that have been flying around the forum forever.Even if its one topic per blog I think it would be great to have some of these touchy topics mentioned.
1 they have bascialy ansewered in several places, they are focusing first on botfleets that they see working for RMTs, then they are going after hackers.
2 most of us dont care, and frankly with the new character system you can seriously get away from what your origial race was with many of them; heck take a look at Akita, shes now Irish!
3 Given how long it took them to create the T2 cruisers Im not realy suprised, it took over a year and a half for them to take the existing concept art they had and make actual ingame modles for them.
4) again they have answered this question repetedly, the fact that you personaly dont like that answere will not result in any changes in there plans reguarding it
as of last Decemer they had stated that there realy was no plan to change local outside of a total UIoverhual, and even then it would be more of a case of getting local to work in the new UI as it does currently. Deal with it, people have been for years now.
5) is part of the ongoing balance mess they put us all through. Hybrids were simply the lastest victem of there ongoing balance passes. next time its going to be something else that gets nerfed or buffed. Get over it.
Other 5) they have said in about a dozen diferent places on this forum that they wanted it to launch with a lot more features, but they ran into a cronic problem that game development runs into, they had a hard deadline and more problems than said deadline allowed you to have

Summary: >of course there will be more clothes and character options and the ability to recustomize your accessories, why would you even bother answering this question, no CCP spent oodles of work on a character creator that each person gets to use once >will there be updates to the UI, PI, and more PVP features >>yes >can you tell us what they are >>no >DUST is important
Feedback: Try to actually give us new information next time . The solution to "not everyone can listen to our live dev blog!!!" is not "let's not say anything of importance at all so that nobody is missing out."

Did anyone else freeze up at a certain point in time during this event? About 22:30, a few corpmates and I experienced freezing issues around the same time, and the group of people affected were the only corpmates listening to the audio feed. We could hear everything fine, and chat as normal, but the game itself was unplayable until a restart.

The only sound issues I heard was CCP Hammer connecting from home or wherever, he broke up a bit. Sound quality of everyone else was very good. I don't see the problem.
Shadow, don't forget to ask Soundwave what microphone he is using, I want to know still.
As for future live devblogs, I'll repeat what I said in chat earlier:
1. Longer. Half an hour/4-6 questions per guest wasn't really a whole lot.
2. More frequent. Sorta covered with two more in the coming months, I'm mostly referring to the time it's been since the last one. Making this a permanent monthly thing would be nice. Bi-weekly would be nicer.
3. Varied guests. Drag in people you usually don't hear from, and don't limit the scope of questions to the most recent expansion. Be it server staff, QA, GMs, whatever. Programmers that can answer actual implementation questions, rather than the game design perspective, would be awesome, too. Ideally, having every scrum team presented at least once would be nice, too.
---
4. Spacing this since this one is probably difficult due to whatever is going on internally, but it'd also be nice if you could take in some of the 'hard' questions instead of picking relatively convenient/easy to answer ones for the next go-around. As far as NDAs or whatever permit, anyway. Don't risk your jobs. :p

Sole reason they slapped it under NDA with the CSM is because they got emberassed when the CSM did not like what they saw and tried to engage in constructive feedback. It is worth following the blogs and forum posts here and on SHC from the CSM members.
CCP already showed what they have to a few magazines like Edge and EON. But there it is not under NDA. Go figure.
What will be shown at Fanfest is a vision annex roadmap for EVE and Incarna, something which when you think of it should have been ready years ago. At minimum last year to really engage on good PR, marketing, events, and more importantly good feedback processes so that hiccups like the Summer of Rage last year don't happen again.

Does that pose the question of what the hells the point of the csm if all CCP has to do is slap em with a NDA and they become useless? An actual link to one of those blogs would be more helpful tho lol

Well that was incredibly disappointing.
There weren't really anything interesting answers (although Noah basically admitting that there are no metrics is.. )
You cherry picked easy questions and didn't tackle any of the good ones after Noah dodged Evelgrivion's question. What about the concerns about iterations, that PI is still missing the central design goal of Eve: player interaction? What about the concerns that incursion replay value is so bad, that it'll become a forced grind? What about the questions about your design goals? What about all the really interesting questions?
None of those were answered. I'm disappoint.

Edited by: laksmi2 on 25/01/2011 05:46:52 i am more interested in this question:
is ccp willing to let go of 1 million $ revenue per month and do something about the 1/3 of all online accounts ant any time being bots?
i am talking profit and wages of gamemasters and devs here. its totally clear where the interest of ccp and its employees lies.
ccp will try to find out how many bot accounts the game can take without getting a too bad reputation. hurray.

Well to be blunt, thats fair, because frankly your attitude is garbage.
and honestly a few min going through back dev blogs would have bascialy answered most of your questions. hell you probably already knew the answeres yourself because only a total moron ignores what the developers say when they post it in there own blogs.
so franly at this point, I can only assume you posted that list to hear yourself whine about it.
lets be real, since you signed up over 1.3 MILLION accounts were created.
CCP stoped being interested in you and me the second we created our first account, they are obssessed with people who have not yet tried the game, and they are obssesed with the next big shiny! They have proven that time after time afte time. For the most part the only time they have realy shown any serious interest in the other issues beyond there next big shiny is either when they completly screw up or we manage to beat them over the head with it. Honestly if it was not for the fact that Jita and Fleet battles are perpetual failmode at any given time we probably would not see them put any effort at all into trying to nail the Fleet lag monster or getting more people into Jita.
but go ahead, keep plugging away at your issues the way I plug away at mine.
but the reality check is that untill literaly move onto Sisi and consistantly send in feedback that they can (and do) use, the only time they will seriously pay attention to what you have to say is when they manage to screw up bigtime.
the reality though is that even there, they will simply take it into consideration and then contiune to do what they have always done.
Overpromis, underdeliver because of dealines, and run off when they get fed up because they want to work on the next big shinny project because maintaing the existing project is boreing.
Given there history Im expecting that to be around feb 20.

Pretty disappointing.
Not from the content - it was clear that no big secrets would be revealed.
Disappointing was the obvious lack of enthusiasm together with an healfhearted commitment to EVE. At least the devs sounded like that: bored and uninspired.
Only 'Uncle' Soundwave sounded like he really cares about EVE.
I only hope that my impression is wrong. |

I don't see much purpose to an audio blog. A written Q&A session could have done the same thing, without the inconvenience of having to be present at the time, and without the poor audio.
If it had been truly live as in random participants asking questions that hasn't been screened beforehand then maybe it would serve a purpose. But I don't think that would work very well either.

The dev blog was billed as being about incursions. Was really about clothes for avatars and future releases. Seriosuly it lacked content.
CCP SoundWave came across as glib, irreverent, uninterested and dismissive. CCP Hammer sounds like he doesn't want to answer any questions and would rather be at home watching one tree hill and/or true blood. CCP Flying Scotsman, was professional and answered questions in a way that was informative and illuminating. He sounded like he actually gave a ****.

I'd rather they stop being vague.
I'd like them to address the many bugs introduced by this patch.
How long do they estimate to fix the bugs created by Incursions.
I'd like to stop the smoke and mirrors and have them be honest with us.

FEEDBACK:
Character Generation: The full body avatar is cool, looking forward to future iterations.
PI: Cool to have more user input, especially the programmable extraction cycles.
Overall: Keep up the good work, but I think WH's, Sleepers and T3 are still the best content you've implemented in years.
PS: Nerf the jumpbridges. Fleets and pilots should be the deterrent in 0.0, not the force multiplying effect of jumpbridges !

Read the transcript (couldn't you have provided your own CCP?) and have to say I'm very dissapointed that the Eve developers are currently working on a game for another system as a priority at the cost of everything in Eve.
The PI guy didn't really seem to know what it was he had done; is he new or was he the guy who designed it?

yea hpefully i means we get to flu frigates in atmosphere with joystic controls ..
really that would be awesome :)
well if you go back a few fanfests there is a dev hinting at all ships having shuttles some day. (remember how big a frigate really is) and thus shuttles could go into places largers ships could not.
now go back 1 fanfest and there was screen shots of asteroid dungeons with joystick combat.
I think the idea will some day be that you can undock from your ship in a shuttle/fighter, and explore the smaller parts of eve. That day, in combo with walking in stations and dust514, eve will be the ultimate game in general.
and no other mmo would even want to come close to having so much content.

The live dev blog was great. I understand that with fanfest in 5 weeks you're not going to let anyone but you CEO drop the big bombs. (you know right after he arrives in his beer ship)
so despite that it was cool to hear that the history bar will make it back in. That someone with some art background is now in charge of the UI, and it's not just a bunch of programers being told "corify the I so we can change it in the future"
also hairy chests, hell yeah rofl
that gets me excited for fanfest.

I'm an EVE player. The dev blog had little to no content, and what little content I did hear, it was about DUST integration. I honestly don't give a hoot about DUST, and honestly, don't think it needs to be made, or at the very least, don't integrate it into eve.
For the next dev blog, please answer some EVE questions as well as the harder questions with answers more than 'I don't know' or 'I can't talk about that'

I listened to the PI part with CCP omen.
One of the things that I don't understand is how they could be happy with developing the eve-dust bridge with this PI.
In the original concept in fanfest 2009 t0rfifrans talked about
- Population control, pollution, developing of a complex planetary infrastructure and economy - Nuking it from orbit - Or conquesting it with DUST mercenaries withour destroying the valuable infrastructure.
Now, PI infrastructure is not very valuable and I don't see how this could be different, since it's only the source for pos stuff that actually is not needed very much anymore since dominion. PI infrastructure could be made more valuable only if PI becomes itself one of the endgoal of the game, while now it's just a minigame.
So, I see 2 possible courses of events. Here is the best one:
1. PI is expanded to become a possible long term goal for players, so that conquesting stuff is far better than destroying it -> players are happy! 2. "Nuke it from orbit" makes it finally into the game -> players are happy! 3. Then DUST is published and it links gracefully with EVE, players get a very good alternative to orbital bombardment, that is far better because you can save a lot of money (since rebuilding all that infrastructure is going to cost very much) -> players are happy!
Here's the second possible story:
1. PI is left as it is. -> players just play with it as a minigame 2. No orbital bombardment, no PVP in PI. -> same here 3. DUST is published. But in order to force people to play with dust mercs CCP links the sovereignty to planet so that you have to conquer all enemy's infrastructure. -> People are forced to play PI and put the destiny of 0.0 in the hands of "those damn 10years old children". 4. We are told that in the future PI will be expanded, that there will be orbital bombardments and so on but this is forgotten and the situation remains like after 3.
I hope for the best but I think that since the priority is the EVE-dust link CCP will take the short route and my second story will become reality.

Well, I sincerely hope that "Nuking From Orbit" is still in the works for when the "shotgun wedding" of PI and DUST inevitably happens... the potential for big laughs with nukes is just way too cool for CCP to omit.

Of course I hope this, but I am quite curious about what is going on in the next development cycle for PI.
But if they add orbtal bombardments, then they should even add some good reasons to fight hiring dust mercs otherwise this simply won't happen.
And they need to turn PI into a good self sufficent game system, a new goal in this game. There is also the "fast" opportunity to take away some other slices of NPC goods from NPCs or increase the need of PI products in the current industry, but this would be kind of forcing people to play with without actually deepening it.

Do podcasts instead. Since the questions are determined ahead of time there's no real time interaction with the players, so no reason for it to be live, and doing it as a podcast would mean:
- You could do it during office hours
- You could sort the sound quality issues out
- Players could listen to it at a time convinient to them instead of only those awake/online at the time being able to hear what was said

^^ they can always make the audio log available as a podcast afterwards. I like the (small) dev-interaction in the 'live dev blogs' channel.
The sound quality was mostly ok. But there are a few issues. - No new information: I don't want to know what you can't talk about, I want to know what you can talk about! - Not focused enough: Try to keep the interviews on one subject but go a bit more in depth.

I think the CSM should choose questions from the community every month (from a thread in CSM Summit) for CCP to answer in a live devblog fashion. One of the CSM delegates should be present to ask the questions, and in addition the CSM delegate could request clarification on any answers that don't come out right.
I love the idea of an unedited live audio devblog, but I can't help but think this would be the perfect opportunity for the CSM to get more involved!

It probably *was* named by a 12 year old. It's named after a tournament gamer 'Fatal1ty' (who won a lot of cash in gaming tournaments) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal1ty Odds are, he came up with that in his early teens or before, and it just stuck.
Edit - screwed up the link
