I agree with the OP, but podding won't truely make it feel like PvP.
Incursion rats should hop on the forums and whine about Incursion zones being dead because they killed all the bears that went there. They then should propose silly ideas such as moving lvl 3 and 4 missions into Incursion zones or making Incursion zones in all the major traderoutes. And last but not least, they should berate any industrialist/missioner than dares post in their whine thread. --- You're in the topic. Topic is in the forum. Troll is in the forum. |

I was, but I can't remember having seen any mention of Sanshas being literally at the (star)gates in Incursion systems, although I was expecting that exact thing to happen based on the promotional video.
Originally by: Planktal ...and no CONCORD in invasion systems.
That would hilariously also solve the whole "popped for RRing somebody in my fleet that shot me" issue
Originally by: Quemist Wouldn't that be more realistic? Why aren't they podding people?
I have no idea. The RP fluff backstory says they are kinda' going against capsuleers primarily, so it makes no RP sense for them to NOT try to pod us. And it would be totally kickass to finally get some NPCs that pod people.

Incursion is a joke. Better word an abomination. It's not meant to simulate pvp, even tho the icelandic morons kid themself that it might be. It is the accumilation of the complete failcascade ccp has been on since they first indulged the paying carebear.
They still haven't figured out the difference between a healthy evolution of gameplay and just cheaply selling out.

lol i stand corrected. Although, it's still weak to present a game in a way that a player doesn't need to learn anything at all about the core vision (pvp, never safe etc.), and then laugh when those players don't have a clue about buffer tanks and rr.

heck they should probably claim responsiblity for all the lag related DCs and socket closures and other crap from the legacy code that ccp is trying to update.

Damn if they do and damn if they don't ? They just introduced some way for people to be mildly forced to get acquainted with that, and you're berating them for not making it mandatory earlier ? Or is it just that you're dismissive of our reaction to them learning it the hard way ? Buffer tanks and rr aren't exactly novel concepts, and L5 missions weren't exactly solo pieces of cake, even L4s attempted by less experienced players would benefit from such techniques, so I'm not sure how else you would have hoped for CCP to "shove" those concepts down unwilling people's throats to begin with better than they just did.

A few times ? ROFL, the forums would explode into outrage the moment the announcement would be made, or worse, on the first player report of Sansha podding. Also, suggestion : don't get podded. WTFO. _

The point is. You can train to hulk, battleship and make enough isk to buy a plex each month, without ever dipping into things the game offers that I would consider core mechanics. Imo this situation has come to be because ccp is selling out. They are diverting from their holy vision for cash. They saw the first paying carebare not leaving the confinements of the starting area and understood money could be made. So they expanded on this starting area. And now we have incursion. I don't want to explain why this is bad :)

Sov stuff is also a core game mechanic. Never get out of empire, never have to learn about it. It's a player's choice. Sandbody thinking and all that fluff. I don't see it as a fault of CCP. Don't get me wrong, they have loads, but I don't see that as one of'em.

I'm not sure what the point of the original objection is. If you can fly a buffer tanked rr battleship decently, and can afford to replace them, you aren't a new player.
I'm also wondering why you'd push PvP fits on a percentage of the population who don't PvP. It's not like you are going to see lightbulbs flash and them think "Hey, I can do L5s with this!" Other issues remain.

I'm not complaining about doing it in regular fit, I'm wondering why push PvP fit content when the target audience isn't going to use that fit elsewhere. It makes sense in low/null, but not in hisec.
As for optional, I don't think it's intended to be completely optional, hence the system debuffs. Especially if the incursions start to hit areas that people can't ignore so easily.

If we could work out proper aggression rules for non-targetted interdiction that didn't involve CONCORD... i'd totally be in favor of it.
Also, while I think disabling CONCORD would be a bit much, it'd be nice to disable the faction police and/or customs at least (if they're not already)... _____________________ Look down. Back up. Where are you? You're on a forum, with the alt your alt could post like. |

Nah, you could have factional police and/or customs respond to events where previously CONCORD would have showed up. And you can RP that by claiming that CONCORD is too busy trying to hold back the Sansha elements elsewhere. ... This way, evading the wrath of what would have normally been CONCORD is no longer an exploit, and is actually expected.

+1 this too. Make some pro-Sansha sites where you trash on relief convoys or establish sansha outposts by clearing areas of faction police or (gasp) CONCORD. Completing their incursion sites deepens the incursion effects and spreads the incursions to new systems....

If a PvP'er looses his gear in combat, sells some GTC and buys new gear would this mean the world is in order in your eyes?
How is that different to an industrialist who was acquiring materials, selling products and having to sell at a loss because of competition, and then needs to go back an acquire more of those materials.. with ingame time instead of out of gate time and buying plex? Same goes for a market manipulation gone wrong..
Give it some time.. this is the first PvE content that FORCES coordination and a fleet of ships to be done in Empire. Who knows.. maybe 3-4 years down the road we get more stuff like this.

Frankly, the entire Incursion thing is just desperately uninventive. God forbid the developers should come up with anything intelligent with regard to enemy behaviour or the tactics necessary to defeat it, nope, let's just go with big ships with lots of hit points. Yeah, great idea! nobody's ever done that in a computer game before.
Try and be a bit more original CCP. There are stacks of things you could do that would be more fun and more inventive. Why not have large numbers of co-ordinated smaller strikes in numerous systems that have to be taken out in a narrow timeframe to make a successful rebuff, necessitating the relaying of messages between widespread players? That way at least new players could join in with their Ibis and Velators and feel like they are contributing. Or perhaps have players needing to use tractor beams to pull large disabled ships into an upper atmosphere so they burn up in a decaying orbit? Or carry out stealthy reconnaissance missions to find out where the incursions will be happening? Or make strikes on staging area logistics? Or have the option to do a kamikaze-style attack on a capital ship? Or require a coordinated level of jamming to thwart the Sansha CCC capabilities? Or even necessitate a trade or productivity war.
Just anything other than pew pew pew for 25 minutes from half the populace of EVE while the lag threatens to bomb the server? It's so mind numbingly predictable. Surely you can do better than 'here comes a big ship, everyone shoot at it'?

Originally by: Chaos Incarnate Also, while I think disabling CONCORD would be a bit much, it'd be nice to disable the faction police and/or customs at least (if they're not already)...

WHy not just have incursions severely nerf CONCORD's possession of WMDs? CONCORD becomes tankable for the duration of the incursion. BETTER YET, have a CONCORD structure in the solar system, which if destroyed (or put into reinforced or whatever) will reduce the sec status of the system until the incursion is repelled.
I've always loved the idea of a dynamic sec status for solar systems.

From my POV Sansha are a notch tougher than Sleepers.. there is no rule that says we can't have Takmahl or Yan Jung two years down the road doing even nastier stuff than Sansha do now - ya know, once people got used to this.
That idea was overused by the time Galaxians came out, and that was 32 years ago.
LOL!
Obviously CCP need to hire someone of you calibur.
They were probably sitting there, dribbling and thinking to themselves.
"DUH! We need biggar ShPz and mAke dem Uber Powerful!"
And that was it they just did it. They didn't test any other content and they just left it at that. God knows the n00by carebears can handle the big dumb tough ships and whats more they do it without crying in the forums. They could easily coordinate a multi system counter attack on the Sansha's.

They get enough of those through abductions. Besides, if your pod gets away, they're not exactly getting any live bodies if they don't pod you, are they ? They obliterate things for less, but somehow the capsuleers they officially hate, they just let them leave without as much as inflicting a tad bit of pain (if to nothing else, then at least to their wallets) ? _

Just stating fact here, but if you make Incursions too punishing, then noone will go there, like low-sec, they will simply leave or do something else. Pod killing wouldn't be a minus for established players, but would hit new players hard. I'm still waiting for CCP to replace their current missions with ones that require PvP ship fits. Where you only fight 1 or 2 ships that tank and deal damage similar to player ships. Who are vulnerable to and capable of using all forms of ECM. That will warp out before they explode if they are not tackled (depriving the mission runner of their bounties/loot).
So I won't hold my breath for these ideas.

hmmm, well there could be a mechanic where sansha attempt to tractor in your pod [warp scrambled] if you do not warp away before they lock on, and if your buddies fail to kill the sansha ship in time to release you then your pod disappears...
...and you wake up somewhere random in eve, in control of one of those cheapo sansha frigs that patrol belts. from there you are red to all players and are free to go wherever you want and attack players at will with your little pee shooter guns until someone kills you off for good, or you eject and suicide yourself...
... at which point you wake up in the clone vat like usual as in: the only way for a capsuleer to escape the enslavement of sansha is to get true pod death to your next untainted clone.

Have you been drinking (or worse) before making your post?
These incursions are hard enough, and you WILL lose your ship, when unlucky get primaried the first second after jump in. So, do you find it a good idea jumping in, landing in a bubble AND get primaried the first second?
After this SURE shiploss you feel you have to lose your implants too, by getting podded?
But i support the idea by getting smacked in local from those sanshas for the lulz.

Here's the deal: Tons of people did what you suggested; warping directly into an HQ, and subsequently died horribly in plasma fires. However, it's actually about gathering a group of people and to WORK TOGETHER, starting with the smaller sites and then working your way up.
Incursions aren't a walk in the park, nor should they be. They provide a challenging experience, and are rewarded accordingly. All I want is an adjustment of the risk/reward ratio.

PvP can also have loads of lag Actually, it very often does. And not always evenly. Besides, having a pod hanging around to provide intel (positions, numbers and such) is a mild advantage to those in the fleet (or just communicating with those in a fleet about to come in, anyway). They don't have to target pods primarily, heck, they could have (one of) the lowest possible targeting priority (so they only hunt down pods when all//most ships are kaboominated), but the threat of podding should exist, even if mostly as an afterthought. _

They should also camp stations (and gates in highsec - which I don't think is done), ocasionaly warp in missions/safespots and attack structures (POSes/TCUs and stuff), with all other ideas THAT would feel like an actual invasion, now it's just pointless spawning of 'plexes in systems.
Also, no missions should be given out while incursion is underway - have carebears contribute to more immedeate threat to consellation than agent running out of exotic dancers.
Oh, and Sansha totaly shouldn't move away after a week if face no resistance - have them "capture" stations and deny docking until they are taken out (not to mention that I find incredably stupid that players can dock with faction/corporation standing less than -5). |

SANSHA INCURSION VESSELS SHOULD TRY TO POD YOU.

Other evil ideas collected from below:
* THEY SHOULD SMACK-TALK IN LOCAL (optionally naming pilots they just obliterated), but in an appropriate RP fashion -- scripted
* have CCP-controlled Sansha NPCs that would roleplay in forum reply posts made in threads complaining about incursions -- partially scripted, partially CCP event team employees having a bit of fun
* they should use HICs and maybe even bubbles in all Incursion systems... and so should we be able to do while the incursion is running
* there should be no CONCORD presence in the system while an Incursion is running (bonus points for fixing the RR-CONCORDOKKENED issue with this) -- optionally, have faction police//customs respond instead of CONCORD (so that you can try and maybe even succeed in escaping without it being deemed an exploit, but it would still not be a piece of cake)
* make some pro-Sansha sites where you trash on relief convoys or establish sansha outposts by clearing areas of faction police or (gasp) CONCORD. Completing their incursion sites deepens the incursion effects and spreads the incursions to new systems. You also get SANSHA LP.
Nullsec incursions already exist, there are 3 of them, you should go there and do sites.

Akita is a well known market muncher. Of course this would be good, Akita would set up buy and sell orders for implants and arbitrage the hell out of them. Market munchers have no real interest in the long term health of the game, just in what mades the iskie balance bigger. Like in real life.
Keep in mind, that right now incursions are new. Eventually, people are going to get tired of them, and the PUGS will go back to doing what they were before. The sane solution would be to continually expand on the types of incursion missions, opening them up to more than a spider fleet of rr battleships and logis. Doubt CCP will do that though, so don't expect them to get harder.

. . . someone was not paying attention to the patchnotes. . .
I was, but I can't remember having seen any mention of Sanshas being literally at the (star)gates in Incursion systems, although I was expecting that exact thing to happen based on the promotional video.
They are go look in ANY lowsec incursion.
They dont. They want to enslave us not kill us.
Originally by: Centri Sixx Why yes, I'm sure this will be the magic bullet that shoots even more people into participating in Incursions, Holmes. Make it feel more like PvP.
Build itRamp up rewards by a factor of X, and they will come. Note : where X is a sufficiently large number
Have you even seen the number of people fleeting up?
Originally by: Rin Vires Incursion rats should hop on the forums and whine about Incursion zones being dead because they killed all the bears that went there. They then should propose silly ideas such as moving lvl 3 and 4 missions into Incursion zones or making Incursion zones in all the major traderoutes. And last but not least, they should berate any industrialist/missioner than dares post in their whine thread.
They could use the random grievance generator and have really cool names like xXxTrueSlave 743837xXx !!!!!111one
We are kicking their asses to hell and back.. Plenty of us in system so they have nothing to complain about. L2P

We were talking about the patchnotes, not about what happens in-game. But thanks for confirming it actually happens in-game.

Well, they're not making any attempts to "enslave" us in any way either, and being podded will only result in being "reborn" in a new medical clone anyway, so they might as well hit you in the wallet a bit.
Quote: [reply to my response to a remark about adding rewards in order to counteract the added risks described in the OP] Have you even seen the number of people fleeting up?
I'm almost certain you read the context of my reply wrong, but anyway, how exactly would you characterize the number of people fleeting up, as "too big" or "too small" anyway ? And how long do you think it will remain that way when the novelty wears off in a couple of weeks (or maybe months) ?

Again, I am having a feeling you weren't really paying attention to the context, or at least misunderstood all the possibilities. The point was that Sansha NPCs should make an appearance in the forums as almost player-like entities, regardless of what they would say... important being the fact they talk, not why they talk.

Incursions should attack high sec towers too!
Just think, a "legal" way for CCP to gradually clean up all those anchored but offline "abandoned " non playing towers hogging all the moon anchor points being laid siege to and removed, that otherwise someone would have to make a war dec to clean up. Freeing up resources is a good thing.

Essentially transforming incursion constellations into pockets of Null-sec... I love it, and this would make me be actually interested in incursions! ____________________

Seriously , the smack talking is a great idea,
They should also keep a public killboard sow we can enjoy the details of the battle and see the failed fits of people taking them on.
I'm not being sarcastic.. it would add more flavor to the game.... more emotion...more show of people cracking under pressure that makes spectator sports so great to watch.

They should have lock ranges appropriate to their ship class, no more keeping you locked while they fly over to deal with a new group 100km away in their frigate and meaning that Sensor Damps have some effect. They should screw up on occasion, at present there's little point in cycling off a target which has logistics support, either you can break them or you can't there's no catching their logistic napping or even catching them mid cycle. (Although you could argue that they already screw up enough in their target calling, see above ) They should degrade sovereignty related effects (the I-Hub indeces) and, when the Incursion is at an appropriate level, their complexes should have the effect of STOPs even if they don't directly attack Sovereignty structures. (And that should be the point at which CONCORD, HICs...etc become effected - Loyalist forces would be able to attack highsec stations, disable station services...etc for appropriate levels of Sansha Incursion LP (not the same as LP with True Creations or True Power but a new LP store comparable with the CONCORD LP store)). They should loot wrecks, perhaps even salvage them if the ratio of their ships to Capsuleer vessels within a site is high enough.
