Yeah my first comp was the good old Amiga 500 at the age of 23. It had half meg ram as standard. i treat myself to the ram upgrade for my birthday, oh and an extra floppy drive. It was awesome! Now at 44 I've had an upgrade or new pc every couple of years since. :)

Commodores and Amigas were fairly modern. Even a youngster like me grew up with the A500 (and the A600, and the A1200, and...).

I remember my year being the first year in our school to have anything to do with computers at all.
We went on a day trip to Dundee (I think it was) on a bus, to the university there, where we gawped at the room-sized computer, on which we learned to do basic arithmetic operations in Fortran with punch cards
So 52.
Funnily enough, though, I didn't get into videogames until Doom. I guess my imagination wasn't good enough to get any fun out of game graphics before that! *****

Being in my early 30s ... I just realized I'm pretty run of the mill in EVE, age-wise. While I was called old by my guildmates in WoW (when I played it).
so while it is amazing that a 70 year old person plays EVE... wouldn't it be more significant to find a 12-16 year old succeeding at EVE?

I am 69 in March but in no way see myself as old. Eve is one of the ways that helps to keep my brain ticking over. I also have the PS3, Xbox 360 and psp for gaming as well as my PC. They would drag me away from them kicking and screaming (yes - I can still give a good kick:) ). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ...One mans rubbish is another mans treasure... |

Well IĈm an OAP and my first ĉcomputerĈ ran on transistors, my next used AND, OR, NOT and NAND gates and was designed with a slide rule lol.
I then ĉgraduatedĈ via a UK101, Various Sinclair models, Atari ST, an Amstrad PC (running GEM) an Amstrad running CP/M and finally my first PC. I started programming/playing simple games on the UK101 and many, many years later having spent around 35 years designing, building and repairing computers I am still hooked on PC games.
IĈm an avid Lara Croft fan having bought my son a Playstation 1 and the game just so I could play the first version and bought every game since.

Well that generation you speak of (guys in their 40s-50s-60s-70s) created video games/computers/Internet/tech and well everything else you geeks like. You know like Star Wars, Star Trek, books, comics, cars etc, etc, etc.. all the endless crap you love.
Why would they not be into games and technology now?
This aint the 1950's 1960's anymore :) Get with the times
Every generation stands on the shoulders of their elders and everything they did which was a hell of alot. We are screwed now days though cause kids/teens are useless, fat and dumb as hell :)
This. ;) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so happy to have found this thread. I thought that I was alone in my "Peter Pan" syndrome. Guys like me in their late 50's seem to have more restrained interests, like mowing the grass, walking the dog or just playing lawn bowls. Commodore 128D with some of the first floppy discs were a God send for us. After waiting half an hour on the C64 for the tape to load and then finding it had an error was frustrating to say the least.

First "computer"? ZX81 (c/w 1k RAM)
First "upgrade" 16k Ram pack (held on by factory provided velcro ~ I kid you not)
Seriously it was awesome.

Perhaps something CCP could put in their statistics. The number of subscriptions per agegroup, the only problem is however is the number of subscriptions. I don't see many 12 to 18 years old having multiple accounts as the parents probably don't want to pay for a second one. And it is pretty hard for CCP to discover multiple accounts for one user if they use plex to pay and have a different email on the account.
But I guess I'm around the avg of the eve-player: early 30. ---------------------------------- None of yet! |

Confirming...
My first boardgaming began in 1965.
I not only know what a punch card was, but used them to write my first program in COBOL.
My first micro-computer was a TRS-80 that used an audiocassette to store data.
but I am not as old as Chribba... Way to go Chrib!

I feel better after reading this thread, I hit the big five-0 this year and I thought I was freaking ancient. Now IĈm feeling kind of young. My first real world experience with computers took place probably somewhere around 86. My first work computer was with a 386 that I used to run DOS based heat load analysis programs on. Eventually I moved up to a Commodore 486 with a turbo-button and was able to actually run AutoCad version 11 or 12 if I remember correctly. That was a real treat back then, lol.

I'm a total throw-back geek. I'm 45 and a grandpa, I work in the gaming industry as a 3d artist (for a company that shall remain nameless). I own a PC, Xbox, PS3 and I like comics. So probably not the oldest, but maybe one of the nerdiest.

I'll be 57 next month. First programming was on an old Honeywell minicomputer using keypunch and teletype console. I still have a stack of pristine punch cards that I use for bookmarks . ________________________________________ Always choose the lesser of two weevils! |
