I may be missing something, but how is the like button going to help identify trolls?

Originally by: Brooks Puuntai A Like button is pointless without a Dislike button. CCP please add a dislike button kktnxs.
Nah, because the two give rise to drastically different behaviour.
Dislike buttons bring out the "one-star monkeys", that vote down anyone and everyone they dislike regardless of the topic and the post. Like buttons bring out the fanclubs and alt-clouds, that stroke epeens for various reasons. Having one or the other depends entirely which party you want to see more of.
The problem is that, those two groups aside, neither button serve much purpose unless it's clear what posts they're in relation to. They become methods to vote for the person, not the idea, which is just icky in many new and interesting ways.
I agree that the thumbs up and a thumbs down should be applied to individual posts. Then CCP can have a link to the posts by a pilot that have recieved props and those that have been ridiculed. This will allow, say recruiters, to see what the pilot has written and others have taken a liking to or that others have chastised the pilot about. This may in turn help control some of the blatant trolling, or not.

Is this what they meant by "The forums are evolving"? I was hoping it meant more intelligent, thought provoking threads and less trolling and immature spamming.

Yes, but this is CCP's Like/Dislike functionality! You should know they build better wheels than anybody

What happened to CAOD?
Is it just hidden somewhere else now? 0.0 politics is an important forum, even if most of the posts are trash.
CCP - do you want them posting CAOD posts in GENERAL CHAT instead??
Evil must reside somewhere, right?

New forums are just a massive advert for sc****heap-challenge becoming the new standard meeting place.
Will be a good thing, with CCP losing control over moderation of the discussion they might be forced to once again progress.
I wonder if the scrapheap-challenge crew will be able to handle the flood of fail coming their way though.

Only the people who are replying seriously to this thread care about it. The OP was a troll (and a funny one imo).
I've seen worse forums. Lol @ this thread though.

At least now ppl r mostly anonymous and the occasional time some narci-wallower links a photo etc. and you mouse over and instead of linking to tinypic etc its on their blog and you have a chance to move on b4 having to go shower their mental love-juice off imagine that kinda stuff which is on the periphreal being the focus, not just forums, but ingame eventually.
And I picked out the 'like' button as a 'tl;dr; one small symptom, evidence of much more to come plus I havent investigated further yet I already know what theyr up too.
Eve-facebook-online. Its coming.
so wait, you have this crazy hair brained idea that EVE is becoming Facebook? If only we had seen this sooner...oh wait "Spacebook" came out last year...

How do you know that the new forums don't work in the IGB if you haven't used them? I just tested the new forums using the IGB and they work fine. What is the problem you anticipate to encounter?

Don't worry, it is so obvious that you are probably not the only one missing it.
If a person has hundreds or thousands of post to his name but only a handful of 'Likes' then the person most likely trolls on a regular basis. Simple
The one thing I really, really want is the ability to completely ignore individuals, collapse their posts into one line indicating their reply and nothing more. With SpaceBook integration it should be a simple matter of adding a forum specific standing and use the standings list to sort it.

This.
Though it must be said I foresee the "likes received" line becoming an interim solution to this via Greasemonkey scripts, until CCP implements proper rep.

Change the like button to a "gank" button.
If 10 are reached, current ship of the poster is blown up. Instant fix to the economy and civility, all in one. Much more in the spirit of EVE.

The new forums are crap, and I hate them tbh - I (and I'm sure many others) am comfortable with and enjoy the ones we have at the moment. Sure, the search function is perma-borked, and a couple of other minor issues, but I really dont think that they warrant the complete overhaul that's being proposed at the moment.
The new forums look like, as someone said before, the forums for 'snowflakes' and what have you. Why do we need a like button? This isn't some sort of news aggregation or social networking site. Why do we need these things?
