I approve the new forum.
You can't despise social networks while playing in a MMO... it's nonsense.

Originally by: Bumblefck The new forums are crap, and I hate them tbh - I (and I'm sure many others) am comfortable with and enjoy the ones we have at the moment. Sure, the search function is perma-borked, and a couple of other minor issues, but I really dont think that they warrant the complete overhaul that's being proposed at the moment.
The new forums look like, as someone said before, the forums for 'snowflakes' and what have you. Why do we need a like button? This isn't some sort of news aggregation or social networking site. Why do we need these things?
actually it is, its just a way to force you to use their spacebook, bull****. but then again i dunno why everyone is worried, look on the brightside, spacebook is down/utterly unusable most of the the time anyway. so we will never see the new forums

I DON`T LIKE CHANGE!!1
on a serious note i also despise the facebookish approach. i am sick of this **** already and the so called "like-society" nowadays. Everything is just happy horsepoop lolipop land and everybody likes everything. Just try to bring serious issues to facebook and you will either get trolled to death, laughed at or completely ignored.
Personally i hoped for a more controlled forum to somewhat cut the exessive trolling going on here. While i certainly enjoy the random troll who puts a smirk on my face from time to time it can get frustrating very often when a good informative conversation is derailed and ****ed up by some bored ****head. I guess from now on it is the more you troll the more you are liked! bah.

Actually I like the slashdot system, where people are given mod points and can mark other people's posts "troll", "interesting", "funny", "insightful", etc.

I can't even get logged into the new forums to post my feedback on them. (Brilliant idea there CCP :) )
I go to the link, click the LOG ON bright orange button up top-right, login to test evegate, click forums, get the orange LOG ON button again. Click it, already logged in to eve-gate, click forums, orange LOG ON button again.... lather, rinse, repeat...
I sure hope they implement them exactly that way too - it'll keep me off the forums and I'll get more done at work :)

I dont dislike the new forums, there is still alot of work needed, but they arent too bad.
My big issue is simply the arse about way you have to go to get to the forums, and thats via Eve Gate. I dont know about anyone else, but I have a habit of visiting the forums quite a few times during the day, why? because its easy, you click a link and can read whats going on, etc, with Eve Gate as the go between, it slows that whole process.
Personally I can see myself switching to reading more of third party forums once the new Eve forums become the thing.
I dunno, I guess they just lack that 'Open Community' feel, and it just becomes a 'Closed Community'.

How do you know that the new forums don't work in the IGB if you haven't used them? I just tested the new forums using the IGB and they work fine. What is the problem you anticipate to encounter?
It's a wine issue, HTTPS pages (any that I have tried) give errors when using wine. I have some posts in the Linux forum about it also.

I'd love you to tell us how it's a hundred fold improvement.
So far we have lag, ganks, width issues, tiny text, no animated smilies, bold text not much different to normal, awful pirate smiley, lack of formatting options.... I could go on.
Yes I know it's a test forum, but some simple problems just make the whole thing look like a joke.
And yes, I dislike the like button. It feels like hello kitty online.

Portraits are too large, most avatars look better from farther away.
The spread out appearance becomes tedious to deal with, kinda like reading a book with large print.

Slow down here, buddy! CCP Explorer is the software director. How would he know about the issues some users experience when using a completely exotic operating system?
That's clearly something no one could anticipate, not to mention test before making a public announcement.

I'm sure it works fine in Linux, however he was talking about running a browser in an emulation of Windows (WINE). Also, some people play EVE via WINE.

Correct. I might not have been specific enough previously.
Only the IGB when running it under Wine gives the error with HTTPS pages not rendering (unable to process the site's SSL certificate error). Firefox and Chrome under Linux work just fine.
I'm assuming it's an issue in how Wine handles Awesomium.dll. I don't believe the issue is related to the new EVE forum code as HTTPS in general does not work in the IGB under wine.

For a game as complex as ours I can't understand where all the idiots come from.

I have lurked around forums with features like this and CCP is heading down the hershey highway. Thats right. Forums with features like this turn into narcisistic circle-jerking yaywagons and drive level headed ppl away in revulsion at the thought of jumping in the yaypile.
This is already a natural tendancy of the internets and encouraging it and bringing it to eve is a bad idea.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of ccp's facebookish social networking-online aspirations and while its great business sense to suck ppl in and continue to further blur the lines of RL and drive to integrate a product into ppl's day-to-day RL routines I though eve was different.
It's already involving enough. Forget GBTWOW, EVE devs need to GBTFACEBOOK with their evil coniverings.
Are you kidding me, thats the icing on the cake? When jagoff metagamers post their theorycrafted ships, a million people "like" them, and then noobs running the build die sooner than later, its a win/win situation for everyone involved.
Then they can get *MORE* likes when they tell the guy why *HE* was the problem and not the build.

You need to pick a character that you want to post with. When you get to your character selection screen click on the character you would like to use. At that point you can post on the forums.

No.It's what we do best.
But, complaining won't stop the new forums from coming.
So instead of just *****ing about it, people should get their butts over there, play with it a bit, and post something constructive about how to make them better.
There's a giant summary list of things that Estel Arador has kindly been managing. Hopefully CCP is going to take the suggestions under consideration because many of them would be a huge boon to the new forums.

Unintuitive design at it's best. Another example that CCP doesn't use their own product. Another example for why spacebook in all it's facets is fail and needs to be redesigned based on player needs, not on dev resume padding.

Now this is what I call feedback!
The Dev team, devoted to bringing you the new EVE forums on EVE gate, will take your opinions to heart and are taking quite a few into consideration for further development. Several issues are already being worked on and others have been identified for further development, released in the more frequent fashion that you have been accustomed to.
Rest assured, these forums would be nothing without you.

Edited by: Camios on 01/03/2011 23:54:45 What I like of the new forums:
- They look cooler that the current ones, but don't know actually why. It's just a feeling.
What I don't like of the new forums: readability, and presentation of content. I'll be more specific:
- Too much empty spaces = wasted space
- I can visualize less posts and less text on my screen, but..
- ... the fonts are smaller!
- It looks like the focus is more about our new avatars, and how they look cool, and less about what we write.
Suggestions:
- Make the font bigger, or reduce the vertical space for every post, or reduce the waste of screen space;
- I would like a lateral vertical bar to switch forum easily;
[*]The dev posts could be evidenced a bit more. They are far less visible than in the current forum, even if the new dev post search is a wonderful tool.
