Not necessarrily patch related. But one possible thing I would suggest. Add some mirrors for the patch downloads. I am sure waiting 22hr 48mins for a small patch of the range of 6-8mb isnt what you had intended. Or maybe release the patch for download say 1-2 weeks in advance.
Its only common sense

Bad on me for waiting until now to download the patch, but I can't believe that a 6.6MB patch is causing enough stress to slow my download to a horrendously low 2.4KB/sec...
Any chance on getting a torrent up so I can get this thing before the next patch comes out? _____________________________________ Your Focused Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I perfectly strikes Blood Arch Sage, wrecking for 216.8 damage. |

the laggy servers are caused by everyone trying to download the patch. and the slow DL speed's are for the same reason. Don't worry, both will speed up. ----------------------------------------------- "I am watching you through a camera" - Artie Ziff

Was hoping to test out my new big monitor but it seems that the eve servers are lagged out ive got broadband and im downloading the patch at 0.90 kb/sec. I checked to see if it was me by downloading a big patch for another game ive got 12 megs in 3 mins no problem, so its definatly the new patch and all the 12k people who are downloading it it also seems the eve website is having issues too.
Patch days can be so annoying .

I agree on the mirrors, but dont you think that if the new patch was ready for release 1-2 weeks ago they would have released it 1-2 weeks ago? CCP will have been working on/debugging the patch until very close to release I would have thought.

BUG!!! When entering the game, your view is stuck in the same spot, you cant change it with your mouse, you just cant move apart from zooming in or out.
FIX! Autopiloting to a new system fixes it aswell as a re-log...

To the guy questioning releasing patch download early.
Heard of STEAM? Counterstrike/Half Life 2?
They realised that the demand for the game was enormous. So they released the game content via Steam well over 2 weeks before final release of activation code/material.
You test and you test well. When you are satisfied, you then prepare for release. This patch seems like it was tested till 1 hr before Downtime. Then released. Thats just not doing it smart. Sure whiners will exist about late patching. But its how things work better.

Bittorrents are excellent for spreading the patch file. The worldwide distribution of the file increases exponentially in a short time. Please consider using BT for any and all future releases.
Much better than releasing a patch that only a handful of people can get in a reasonable timeframe. Afterall you have the server logs, you should know what the demand is going to be like. Sheesh...

The market in domain region appears to be dead and the reseting of the overview settings was most annoying...

Depends I don't like BT basically because no one shares, they are happy to max downloads but uploading they block.
In princible BT is a good idea, but its flawed.

It's people that are flawed because they are selfish, backstabbing little creatures. In a community like this though people would share to help others download the patch. I've already downloaded it but I'd download it again on BT just help seed it and I now a lot of others would. __________ Capacitor research |

When you download a torrent file you are sharing the data you have downloaded BEFORE the entire file is finished.
Although the "default" BitTorrent downloader is messed up sometimes becuase it starts sharing after file is complete & thats when people close it.
I have to say that torrent files on patch day would lower the stress & bandwith from ccp servers & also possible increase download speeds for users.

Edited by: Yseult Atreus on 01/02/2005 16:23:44 Managing about 1% every 3 mins ATM. At 87% so will stay with it, but agree, more resources should have been allocated prior to release; not as though they've not done this before. Edited because I spoke too soon, angered the gods and now it's frozen solid at 88%!! :(

Why the melt down with this patch? I would of thought after all this time you could get the patch download process smooth.

CCP How many patch days do you have to endure massive lag problems before you guys learn that hosting the patch at the main site causes massive lag. Over the last 9 or 10 months its gotten worse with more and more players joining. Isnt it time to learn from past experiance and host the patch somewhere well away from the main server. Please do this next time and dont rely on the generous community to set up mirrors. CCP you earn enough to do this yourselves. Game is totally unplayable at the mo with the lag being so bad.

Agreed with whoever asked for a BitTorrent download of this patch (and patches in general). Would help a *lot* in both speeding things up and reducing server load. Please look into it. Not all p2p is warez and piracy, BT works wonderfully for transferring large files in general when there are lots of people requesting the file... and guess what, on patch day there are always lots of downloaders.
