Thanks for the responses. I think I'd like to discuss some things further sometime, but I don't think this thread is suitable for it, which leads me to this question:
Is there an ingame chat channel dedicated to discussing stuff with CSM members? CCP, I don't want to have a signature anymore, but I can't remove it. |

No, m8, that's why I did the Reddit AMA and this thread. We're also looking at doing a series of more interactive town hall meetings starting soon. For now though, this thread is as good a place as any to get responses. Most of us have jobs / families and when we're online are busy doing stuff. So ask away! Also a bit confused tbh on the Incarna issue, It seemed that the older players or vets (Much like you Seleene or Hans) hated the incarna and its release. I am mostly wondering why you guys are pushing for it. Or what you hope it could turn out to be. Or perhaps it was the other more jealous more hateful vets that didn't like it. I will not be voting in the CSM election, so you need to go vote to make up for me. |

I came at the very tail end of the whole thing, but my impression from reading the people who were there is that it's not so much about the idea of Incarna (although that has its opponents) as the way CCP tried to implement it the first time. I mean, I'm a big fan of what Incarna could be, but the first time I was dropped in the Minmatar CQ, and I watched the slide show as my character moved haltingly around from one non-interactive item to another? That did not leave a positive impression on my newbie self.
Since then the CQs and the character rendering have both improved by leaps and bounds, as the performance got better, and that's just made me wish even more that there was some compelling use for all that sweet technology. That, and I don't play a ship; I play a capsuleer. |

Speaking for myself, I hated the way that Incarna-the-expansion was horribly mismanaged, conflated with an appallingly executed cash shop, sucked up a giant amount of resources for zero gameplay &c, &c. WiS as a concept is something that I would still dearly love to see contributing gameplay and immersion to EVE, and I think it's a vital part of the game's future.
From CCP's "corporateness" silence on the matter, I infer that they haveeitherscaled back / delayed /mothballed the project even further and are nervous about a player backlash from those who really want WiS (more likely), orthey've decided to amp it up and are nervous about a player backlash from those who grudge every post-it-note and idle conversation over beer not devoted to ~spaceships~ (less likely). Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

Seleene/Trebor/Hans/any other CSM that wants to respond,
Can you please comment on Ytterbium's comments in: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1865084#post1865084 with respect to High Security Stations?
Do you think that there are too many high sec stations that refine at too high of quality compared to null sec stations? Do you think that there are too many manufacturing slots available at too cheap of a price in high sec? Has the idea been brought up to link manufacturing slot/research slot costs to demand like offices are in high sec? Should player run refining and manufacturing have more quality and quantity than NPC run refining and manufacturing?

Jace Errata wrote:This may seem silly, but my question is...do you have any record of the answers (if they were answered) to my questions from the recent CSM Town Hall? I'm a bit time-limited, so I never did get round to listening to it. For reference, here are the questions in..uh..question:
Answers in bold.
Q1: Aggression mechanics It's mentioned in the CSM Summit minutes that low-sec gate guns will engage players for any offence, including "suspect" flagged-offences (currently the equivalent of Yellow aggression timers). Since that includes things as minor as can-flipping, is this likely to be reconsidered, and if not would it also apply to high-sec guns?
Probably, but we haven't seen the details on this just yet. AFAIK we will all get to see a dev blog on the proposed mechanic and rage constructively about it before it hits TQ.
Q2: New POSes With the new modular POS system, will the option for a true POS, as opposed to a COS, be available? I'd like to be able to set up a small hangout to keep a few ships and emergency supplies.
What we've been told is that the new system will scale from single players all the way up to coalition of alliances sized mega structures. So I'd say... yes.
Q3: [General not just Summit] Can anything be done towards getting V3 skins sharpened up? As it stands, they're painfully blurry when zoomed in (the most obvious example I can bring to mind is the Raven).
Like how zoomed in? What kind of machine are you using? I zoomed in just now things look pretty spiffy on mine.
Q4: [General] What's the CSM's opinion on Asuka Solo's PI 2.0 suggestion?
What is YOUR opinion of Asuka Solo's PI 2.0 suggestion?
Q5: [Requisite humour] How likely is my CSM8 campaign, "What's a CSM? (from the team that brought you Operation Dread Intrusion)" to succeed?
If you get elected, once you cross that line, you will lose some of your innocence. It will be harder to tinfoil and rage at devs. Do you want to give that up? That is what you must ask yourself. CSM 7 Chairman My Blog - Where I say stuff Follow Seleene on Twitter! |

is it something that having a degree in an appropriate field is the best course of action or... is working from an entry level internship better?
Mate, I wish I could give a professional answer to this but the fact is that, based on what I've seen, there are a LOT of different paths to getting into the games industry. It depends on timing and circumstance, who the company is and if they are looking for academia or pure creativity. When I was at CCP, we had around eight game designers and all of our backgrounds were very different. Quite a few people at CCP ~started~ in entry level positions which allowed their more obvious talents to shine through. CSM 7 Chairman My Blog - Where I say stuff Follow Seleene on Twitter! |

I was wondering how viable shifting corp management away from a purely in-game client to something that can be accessed in a web client would be?
it was something that was inspired by Dust514's devs revealing they are letting people use sonys Vita to sort out the more mundane things so that peoples console-time is maximised to fun stuff! A lot of management level people in corps want to maximise their time enjoying eve, but always tend to have administrative stuff to deal with typically before doing so. It would also pave the way for more integrated eve corp management tools. Large nullsec corps and alliances tend to have coded private tools that help with corp / alliance / coalition management, these sorts of things are another part of the 'barrier of entry' to null sec.
The CSM is a single voice in GET CREST IN THE PLAYER'S HANDS RIGHT NOW NOW NOW!!! There is the potential to do everything you suggest and more. Every player should go to a local store, buy a tube of CREST toothpaste and mail it to CCP HQ. CSM 7 Chairman My Blog - Where I say stuff Follow Seleene on Twitter! |

What I want to see is what CCP seems determined to do - not do this before that and try to move things forward in parallel development as much as possible. I'm confident that the guys working on this stuff want the same things we all want - a reason to keep playing the game.
That being said, if CCP doesn't fix / finish null-sec starting early next year, a lot of older players will probably walk away for good. CSM 7 Chairman My Blog - Where I say stuff Follow Seleene on Twitter! |

Malcanis wrote:Seleene, can you give me your personal feeling on how Dust will work out from the perspective of EVE players? No NDA breaking stuff ofc, just your ~crystal ball~.
My primary concern all along has been that DUST not be shoved down our throats and that it be something that EVE players can see tangible benefits from being involved in. DUST needs to make my space goddess give a **** in order for me as a player to give a ****. CCP doesn't have to sell DUST to just PS3 players but also to EVE's established player base. If we don't like it or think it's super bad, we could really thrown a wrench into CCP's plans.
From speaking to the higher ups in China working on the game, I think they understand that DUST needs to be integrated careful and in stages.
That's about as far as I can go for now. I believe the DUST team knows what needs to be done and I don't forsee them screwing anything up in a big way. It's really going to be up to the game itself in the end. CSM 7 Chairman My Blog - Where I say stuff Follow Seleene on Twitter! |

I hated the release because it was half-assed and incomplete. When you wait five years for something and you get a dirty room to **** in (that melts video cards) and a bunch of idiotic micro-transaction crap, it's not hard to be fired up.
I think the whole idea of Incarna / Avatars has a ton of potential. As window dressing or actual game play, there is so much that could be done there but CCP blew their chance to "sell it" to EVE players the first time around. I'm still very interested in this project for a couple reasons.
1.) I'd like to see it eventually have real game play elements that EVE players can enjoy.
2.) I want to know what level of resources are going into it versus Flying In Space (FiS) game play.
I firmly believe that until CCP has a solid plan for avatars that they need to keep the focus on FiS. This is what my issue was last year and CCP listened. As I've stated earlier, I'm waiting to get a solid update to what's going on with avatars and will push CCP to make a public statement about it ASAP. This is actually quite interesting. As in a good way for us noobs to move forward, once you all die hards leave the game. Well mostly I got really confused reading the comments for the kick tech in the balls dev blog. I was thinking more like you are saying about it needing to be fixed or changed. But when I read it, it seemed they didn't think some aspects were that old or that bad really. I mean CCP could have really nuked tech, but a lot of players would have been angry over it. ( I was hoping for more dramatic change, but saw it wasn't really needed yet, so was surprised) Like tech was still the main driver and wasn't that old really as well, or very hard to replace or find another main driver.
I mostly saw what most players wanted there wasn't a total fix, but were tired of the top down approach on the economy in null. And wanted more bottom up approaches for economic problems and to get the alliance and corps working. (Also some wanted more taxes (?) or to destroy goons and moons entirely for the small people)
I am not really sure what you hardcores want with null, like I said, just hoping to outwait and finally win.

I have stumbled across the following:
mordfiddle wrote:... As of this writing, CCP Greyscale's dreams of small alliances holding their own patch of sovereign space in nullsec are distant at best. hey selene... was gonna throw this up in one of the town hall meetings bt its less of a question and more of something to think about and maybe pass on to dust514/ccp devs perhaps.
As dust514 and eve will be coexisting, and orbital bombardments will occur both ways eventually, does ccp/dust514 devs acknowledge or have any plans to solve the issue of having time dilation in dust514 to mirror time dilation in eve, and vice versa?
i know and understand this kinda stuff is most likely heavily NDA'd... but its something that i really hope ccp and dust514 devs are aware of, and if you could acknowledge they do or pass it on to them as something to think about thatd be awesome!

AFAIK, yes, this is still the general direction that CCP wants to go but it will probably be another expansion cycle or two before we start to see genuine progress in that direction.
