I wonder why does CCP need to use Yet Another Forum, when there are so many better forum packages around.Even the free SMF and phpbb3 are better.IPB is class for itself.

I don't really mind one way or another if we get new forums but there is realy little wrong with the current ones and the new ones should have at least every function we can use on here. I also don;t think you should import the old stuff there has been too muchc rap posted since forums came about it would just slow the new system down totally better to just leave the old stuff archived or only transfer the last 2 weeks of stuff.

As an information exchange I see little wrong with the current forums. That should be the primary unit of measure dictating forum design.
The new forums take longer to navigate, and are therefore provide a slower exchange of information.
If the unit of measure is eye candy, large avatars (who the hell cares?), or mimicking other social network lovefests then the new forums are da bomb.
Bottom line is that I will use the forums less and post less. Which of course, defeats the purpose of an exchange of ideas and opinions.

Yes I look forward to their arguments for that package. I fully support open source and have been interested in an asp package for years. One can setup the other system on the Microsoft servers but I agree they should try to use the platform they have chosen. Theres probably a lot that will fall together better on upgrades. Sometimes just the way a null is handled can cascade through all kinds of applications for months. I'd rather we stay inegrated into one platform instead of mixing them.
I'd really like to know what is so hard about developing a good forum package on the MS platform though. Is it that its not popular in the business community and just has less long term development or is it that the platform is weak and Forums are an Achilles heal?
Forums certainly make Microsoft look like its getting it's pants pulled down.

CCP can give all players a stack of Post-Its as their next forum for all I care. I am good with anything. I have talked about things in the past and nothing CCP does will stop me from talking in the future.
It is interesting to see how players use the old forum to talk about the new forum... It is as if everyone is only using the old forum to train for writing on the new forum.

Haven't you been paying attention? CCP's given up on the players. The only time they've posted on the forums this past month is to give bad news with very little information and no follow up. I know, CCP's track record for addressing player concerns sucks like a Vietnamese prostitute, but we're definitely at a low point.

<rage>CCP's blog based "humor" is trite and infantile. Whomever is editing the blogs and giving the green light to some of the slop published should be demoted to cleaning the company toilets with their toothbrush after a company-sponsored booze fest. </rage>
Additionally, the writing style(s) used furthers the perception that CCP personnel have little respect for their customers.
CCP has the power to use dev blogs to retain customers and build goodwill with the community. Whether CCP makes the choice to do so is another matter.
