Well, i dont know if its generosity, but when i ransom people and they, for example, flying a raven and he cant pay the full price, i take whatever he can offer, i also release anyone i took ransoms from (unlike many others who take them money and blow 'em up).
I also gave alot of iskies to newbies, and recruited many of my victims just to teach them the tools of the trade (which otherwise would quit the game), and after a short period of time became evil pewats themselves...
So, am i generous? maybe...

Every month I had a free lottery where I gave away like 1 bil. With prices like carriers and stuff.
When you are quite rich, that isn't that generous really. ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |

Given away gods only know how many rifters, mostly to friends who where just starting out the game. Got a free noctis from a corp I was in after finding a loophole in their recruitment policy (I'd still consider it generous because he just as easily could have rescinded the offer) also had an old corp mate of mine give me a plex when i'd fallen on hard times and wasn't able to pay for my account that month. oh and I also occasionally give 1 isk to spammers in local in .01 isk incriments because it amuses me to do so.

As a Newbie, I was trying all sorts of different jobs. I wanted to try running some courier jobs. I emailed one of the contract posters asking if there was some way we could negotiate the 20mil collateral. A few days later he messaged me back, saying he would like to give me a try.
He promptly sent me 2o Mil as a gift. I ran his contracts and we were both happy. When I tried to return it, He sent it back stating it was a gift and no need to return.

I engaged a couple of guys in Rifters the other week in a belt. Got talking to one of them afterwards and turns out they'd spent some time teaming up to take down a BS rat in low sec (they weren't that old).
We got talking and the guy had a really good attitude to the game. So, knowing that ISK is hard to come by as a new player, I sent some ISK their way to cover new ships etc.
I remember some guy doing the same for me when I was new and it was a really great feeling - it was about 5mil I think but at the time it meant I could get straight in the ship I was wanting.
Funny thing is.... I was passing through the system yesterday in a Rifer myself and there was a small frig gang catching outlaws in small ships on the gate. One of them turned out to be the same guy and he o/ in local and off I fly.

Perhaps the better question would be: How could someone not have such a small amount of isk that they couldn't afford such a trifle?

Sometimes, drive-by generosity is the most fun thing in Eve. I've given away: Hulk x 3 Mackinaw Hurricane Republic Firetail Obelisk (that one was fun) :) A few months ago, I helped a newb clear a mission that he just didn't have the DPS for. Like the Eve commercial, we started flying together for a while and talking. So he was mentioning his corp (him and two RL friends) were saving for a Hulk. <clickety> one Hulk in contracts for him. He was really appreciative of it and invited a couple of his corpies into chat. Long story short, after much more conversation, turns out they really had a money problem while learning the ropes. <clickety> 300 million ISK into their account. Lots of oohs, ahs and "We'll pay it back!" - I said sure, whenever, but only if you can afford it - Honestly not expecting to see it again (or needing to, really - the giving was the fun) - Well, two and a half months later, a 400 million ISK deposit made to me, along with a really nice note about how it helped and made their EVE experience a helluva lot nicer. It's worth pointing out that I'm just paying it forward, for some of the incredible help, generosity and kindness I've seen from Eve 'strangers' over the years :)

I have handed out a couple of BCs and some mid-level skillbooks on occasion, almost universally because the guy on the other end had made some silly mistake and was obviously willing to learn from that mistake (or had already done so) or because they had missed some obscure semi-requirement (piece of equipment or skill) without which their newly-achieved goal was almost useless.
In fact, learning in general is something I've found myself sponsoring quite often. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Edited by: Teram Ekim on 24/05/2011 13:14:52 I used to roam lowsec in a taranis pirating noobs with my extra sec status. After blowing up their frig/cruiser/battlecruiser I usually felt bad enough to reimburse their loss. I would then open up a dialogue with them and let them know what they were doing wrong that got them killed, give some advice on how to be "safer" in lowsec if they were going continue to be there, and some more effective fits for whatever they were doing. Mentoring noobs can be fun sometimes.

Edited by: Entaran on 24/05/2011 13:18:16 I have regularly given away 100m isk to random newbies who show a little bit of a human side in local chat.
I have also given away a Nyx and an Aeon and seperately, stacks of 20bn isk to three different players who are close friends of mine.
When you get a certain amount of isk the numbers become meaningless.
Whilst these acts of generosity might seem big, they really aren't because it's completely dependent on the persons ability to regenerate the isk they give away (or if it even mattered in the first place)

I've helped friends who are new to the game pay for ships. I rarely buy the whole thing, but I'll say how much more do you need? And then give them about half of that, half is free, half they work for. I've also used LP to get them cheap implants.

And on a note of generosity to me, once our corp banded together and tried to fight off greifers that we had been having problems with, it failed horribly and i lost my tengu, which at the time I had spent a while saving up for, and was one of my only ships. The other guys in the corp pitched in to help me get a new one.

Edited by: Crunchmeister on 24/05/2011 13:41:54 I probably won't help someone who's asking, and more likely to have a random act of generosity towards someone who isn't asking for it.
Back when I lived in Empire, I was in Genesis right next door to where the last part of the SoE Epic Arc ended. So naturally, there was an endless cry from noobs in local for help killing Dagan.
Whenever I was available, I would always help out these noobs (takes seconds to pop Dagan), and I would just randomly throw them 10M isk out of the blue to help them on their way. In the grand scheme of things, it's a very small amount of isk, but to a noob that's just scrounged together enough money to put together a cruiser, it's a lot of isk. The only thing I asked of them in return was later on when they were able to, to help another noob in need. I've given away several hundred million isk over my time living in Genesis.
Needless to say, this is likely the first and last act of generosity they'll encounter in Eve.
I've also handed out isk to corpies in need, particularly new guys after a painful loss and such. And I never ask for anything in return for that. I've even bought PLEX for a couple of my guys who were having real life money issues and wouldn't have been able to renew otherwise. |

My first month in eve I, against my corporation's better judgment, went into a nearby low sec system in a Caracal to rat. (I'm sure you all know the point in the game that I'm talking about when you first get into a cruiser and you feel so powerful compared to your Ibis.) Anyway, I warp to a belt and surprise surprise, a pirate in a vagabond or something kills me within 5 min of being in system. This left me distraught that my dear dear Caracal of which had taken me days to mine for in my bantam was now in shambles. Naturally like any other free trial n00b I raged and complained in local but low and behold a fair philanthropist , (still kicking myself today for not remembering his name) sends me 20m for a new Caracal or two and fittings. This left me flabbergasted ! I experienced both the ruthlessness and generosity of the eve community in one day. Its one of those game moments that I will never forget. |

I was actually going to come on today to post something similar, as after reading the forums and trying to get as much information as possible on a game I only heard of last week, generosity was the last thing I expected. The forums and guides are full of the harsh realities of EVE.
Last night a ship came into the area and started handing out new ships! Said he started here and felt he wanted to help out other starters. Nice Guy! Got a Catalyst as that was the biggest thing I can fly so far.
I don't expect to find it every night but it was a nice suprise!

I joined an exploration corp when I was 2 weeks old. Corpmates gave me stuff that made me more efficient(Sisters probe launcher, Faction ammo, Meta 4 guns, isk), they've let me join level 4 missions and keep all the loot or salvage. Most of all, they've spent a lot of their time explaining the subtleties of Eve or jumping through 15 systems to come help me with tough DED overseers. I've made sure to do the same for newer corpmates, sending around 5 mill for Sisters probes, Improved cloaks and passing the knowledge forward. When everyone is better off, everyone is better off!

Long story short, since it is very much the same as the original post. I had a very close corp mate drop 750 mil on me so I can buy a fully fitted t2 loki... he never wanted me to pay him back. All he said was that he wanted me to enjoy the one ship I always wanted to fly in new eden. I am forever in his debt... even if he says I am not.
I continue to pass on this tradition when I can. I have come to realize that corp mates who love what they are flying, make the game so much more enjoyable.
Since then It has become about enjoying this game, and I could be making ISK or spinning my favorite ship in station that my friend got me.

To date, I've given my brother a T2 fitted passive drake, a Hookbill, and 100m ISK. Kinda his inauguration into EVE, but I typically help out friends in need. Kinda my way of paying forward the help I've received over the years.
But I will not give out Magnum, it's not ready yet.

I started playing EVE online with the 14 day trial. And a very generous american dude gave me a PLEX out of the blue when he heard how much I liked the game and how I couldn't pay for it with real money.
He never asked for a pay of any kind, and when the time came and I could have paid him back, he was no longer active :(.
The second most generous thing I received was instruction on how to keep making isk and sustaining myself in the game, at the time, by farming DED 1/10 in serpentis space. Teach a man to fish... Also, I cannot forget about the people in Maori Corp, who bought me some very important skill books amounting to 20 mil isk, money i could not accrue by myself at the time.
The only generous thing i could do for my other corp mates was to pay for their share of loot that dropped in the big plexes, while I took the loot and sold it in Jita. I always had more isk on hand than they did, but otherwise they were capable people who politely refused any other offer to help.

Well same thang here.
I also help out all kinds of players and again ye ur prob talking about a few bill i gave away by helping.
Not long ago sum mate had a bad experience in eve pulled him back and gave him 100 mill that whas 2 weeks ago but it,s the most fun ofcourse by givin new players 20 million isk after they have tasted how long it takes to make isk and then suddenly they get 20 mill and u their god :) the aprectiation makes it all worth it like if ur 3 years old in this game or higher and depending on the situation us mostly think whats 1 bil it's gone in 1 purchase of an carrier or a t3 etc etc.
So 20 mill or those kinda amounts should always be givin to newly players aslong as they dont raise their hands "can i have"

Buddy of mine gave me a Navy Megathron all decked out with imperial navy energized platings, federation navy mag stabs, and a federation web. He bought one just like it for the soul purpose of being 'those guys in faction pvp battleships.' (Faction RR battleship gang is best RR battleship gang) Same guy gave me navy omen and much pwng has been wrought by its Focused medium pulse lasers. Another gave me 270 million isk on my 27th birthday. I've done my share of.. sharing too, but i can't remember the stuff i've given away, only the things i've received. I've often given out a few million isk to new players, sometimes even to beggers if it's a reasonable amount they ask for. One time someone was begging in newbie corp chat for 30k isk to buy an executioner 'cos he'd accidentally flown into low sec space and been pirated, instead i gave him an executioner with a fit capable of running any level 1 missions and the isk to insure it too, along with some tips and advice to help him along, as he was a new player. Among that I've had a friend who over time has constantly quit and returned to the game, and each time I give him a few million ISK to get him started. On the other hand a guild friend on warcraft played eve and we got talking one day, he asked me what i was aiming for so I told him an Abaddon, though having one at the time would be pointless as I couldn't even get in it, let alone use it properly, then suddenly I had a Harbinger contracted to me from him, and a message from him saying "Here you go, one step at a time deary". I meant to pay him back for that but his WoW addiction took over and he doesn't play Eve anymore, so instead I help him out on that ^.^ This game can be harsh sometimes and unfriendly to new players and even veterans sometimes, but sometimes we meet people willing to help us out which makes us happy, and that usually makes us want to pay back in kind, or help others who get into a situation we've struggled with, and it's these people that keep the game going strong :)

Genrosity is rife... Usually donate ISK to the person I shot so he don't get too upset and quit. Gave one corpie a PLEX as he couldn't afford it one month... Not just iskies either, travel major distances to help people out (camped in system or to light a cyno ect)
Then things get reversed all of a sudden, just got a chimera donated to me....
Mind you, i'll still try and get you corpse if you are not blue :) ________________ Recruitment Open

I was given a bunch of ore for my first cruiser when I just started playing. I was given 60 mil for a Dominix when I was a 3-month old noob (this was back when battleships were the best ships you could buy, so 60 mil was quite a gift). I really wanted to pay the guy back, but I can't remember his name any more. So none of you panzies are gonna get it by impersonating him Lost that Domi to war targets Just a few weeks ago, I was drooling over the Noctis in corp chat. Lo and behold, a corpmate loaned me one for missions. Very nice of him. I had also mentioned my goal of getting PLEX by missioning. I have only just started playing the game in earnest in the past month or so, so I haven't had the opportunity to be generous yet. Once I get some iskies, I'll hand them out to people who need it-- noobs who show a genuine desire to learn and succeed in the game. And stick with it for as long as I have. It's difficult to know if the player you're helping is a noob or not. For me, it really doesn't matter. When I was a fresh outta the pod beginner, I made a stupid mistake and accepted a courier contract there was no way I could fulfill. A friend of a friend paid me for the contract and agreed to take it on herself. Another stranger gave me my first Myrm...and yet another gave me my first Retriever. It never fails to blow me away how generous some people can be. So, occassionally, for lolz, I go back and run the intro lvl 1 missions and will hand out my winnings and loot to the first noob who responds to my request to trade in station. I also bought one of my old CEOs a new Hyperion after he lost his Kronos to a gang of pirates. Doesn't matter how he lost it, really, only that he was able to fly a new ship and keep having fun. That's what makes this game great.

I have been on both sides of this fence :) I did reply to a chap who was "leaving game and wanted to give his stuff to somewhere it would be used" and received free 2 t2 bpo's (ammo) and almost 200 bpo's of t1 goodies ships mods, a corp worth.
On the other side I used to run DANGR and as such gave billions to members, free books, ships to new members and all that :)
To complete strangers I have also given billions away especially at christmas I have an annual tradition of giving a few billion in ships away in the ship trade channel through fun trivia questions, but I did miss last christmas as I was away though :)
