I'm affiliated with EVE University, so:
"This game is about groups of bastards competing to be the biggest bastard in a battle for money and power...and we're running a charity" ~ Cazzah
But 9 times out of 10 I'm willing to help if you need it, be it cash or ships. I loaned somebody 140M to purchase and outfit a Raven. Loaned with no intention of looking for it if it didn't come back. Once you start running L4s efficiently, and fly a Noctis to salvage, you make huge amounts of isk. And sometimes I look for shiny new ships, but in general, it just sits inside my wallet. So I might as well help other people out.
I operate a little differently with EVE University though. If somebody who's recently been in that corp asks, I usually offer them ships at considerably reduced price. Or if anyone needs help on a mission, I offer my assistance if the distance isn't ridiculously far.
Flip-side: I manufacture Thrashers for Hulkageddon. Flip-flip-side: I use a Hound to KM ***** on suicide gankers. Flip-flip-flip-side: I intend to join in Hulkageddon.

The most generous thing that has happened to me was when I was trying to get into level 3 missions. A corp I was in at the time (for less than like 2 days) had a few industrialists and they offered me a Myrmidon for only 10 million, and some free Tripump armour rigs.
It doesn't beat being given a fully fitted Wolf, but it sure made my day when it happened.

I often give newbies ISK because I remeber how hard it was when you start. Its so easy to take it all for granted now. Skill and respect must be earned for sure, but ISK is very hard to make when you are new.

When I used to run missions with my mate, he was still using his stabber (lol) I bought him a hurricane. A few days later he lost it to a really hard level 3 (when they were hard) and I immediately bought him another one.
When I started playing EVE, I had just acquired the skills to fly a Drake, one of my RL buddies bought me one, and I promised to pay him back. Still haven't XD

I was cruising through space the other day when lots of people started handing out free missiles and other assorted ordinances. They where very generous. They even asked me if I wanted to pay them, and when I told them I didn't have any cash on hand, they gave me even more.

I give away stuff regularly. You can only fly/use some many ships. I even gave away a Machariel a couple months ago. Planned to leave, but a friend convinced me to just change my play style and see what happened.
Money comes and goes, and let's face it: it's all virtual. That Machariel wouldn't pay my rent. :)

I am constantly giving out isk, advice, ships, fittings and help. I will strike up conversations with noobs (for recruiting usually) and just talk with them. I will give them advice on setups, missions, cost to effort ratios and even isk. I do this for several reasons but the main one is that I want noobs to have the same experience that I did when I started playing Eve.
A friend got me interested in playing and when I started I was almost immedietly in a Corp. I was constantly getting advice and monetary help to make my better. This was a big contributing factor to my continued play after all these years.
I know that not all my good deeds are going to bear fruit. Hell I've even been scammed once or twice. I have not let this stop me though. Helping out noobs is just something I do to make the game better and to help them have the same enjoyable first experience with Eve that I had. It's easy to do and takes almost no time.

During a recent hi-sec war we were repping damage to our POS when some 2003 character turned up. He was waiting to JC back to nullsec and was just generally mooching about. He promptly disappeared and came back with a remote-repping Rokh and helped rep all the incapped modules.
I wasn't around when it happened but heard when I logged in, but I mailed him when I found out to say a big thanks, as the war happened inconsiderately just around Xmas and so most folk had RL to contend with (apparently our WTs didn't have much of a life). He then convoed me, asked if i was the CEO and if I had access to the corp wallet... I thought... "ahhh here it comes - he's gonna ask for a ****load of cash to avoid another dec"... and he then deposited a billion isk in the corp account, which paid for the bill for us to form an alliance with a bunch of mates we'd made over the previous 3 years. Top bloke. I was fairly speechless... I think I initially managed "f*ckin 'ell"

I get to play Eve 2 days a week for 1-2 hours at a time if I am lucky, usually every other week. I am a miner. I have the skills to fly every mining vesel, and am working on PI. My corp has recently moved into a wormhole and should begin production of ships soon. The corp currently will purchase skillbooks for members, but not ships. I donate about 25% of my mined ore to the corp for building of things, and selling, and once a month the corp pays every member a portion of proceeds (after taking out for POS fuels). I saved up enough for a hulk, bought one, fitted, then started saving for an orca. A friend from a previous corp got into trading adn I have him 300 million (put me at 10 million) to help him get a freighter so he could get more efficient at trading and hauling. A couple weeks later he told me he had got the freighter and had amassed near 2 billion and would be paying me back double. I havn't heard from him since and he has not logged back into the game according to another mutual in-game friend. The most I have ever had at one time in my 10 months of playing is 280 mill before I got the hulk, and then 310 before giving him that loan. Now I am at about 28 million.
But I have a hulk. And the corp, as it starts making misk on selling things, I will get payouts and maybe they can help wme with the orca.
I keep hearing of people getting their first billion within 4 to 6 months of playing. Me, haha, almost a year and total I may have amassed just over 600 million. I doubt I will see a billion in my wallet for a couple more years.
But due to me loosing that loan, I ddoubt I will help anyone with that amount again unless I have 3 times that in my wallet.

I have to say honestly there is alot more generosity in the game. Personally myself and a few more individuals started a corporation that we helped everyone out. The corp built ships for the characters that played. Led the in right training directions. And much more. I personally put a billion isk into this corp just to be given out to players that was in bad need of isk. One of the incentives we had and this all came from my pocket. We would ask that they train all their tier 1 learning skills to lvl 4 and learning to lvl 5 before they got rid of these skills. and we asked for them to get cybernetics 4. At this time out of my own pocket i paid for the players first set of +3 implants. Is yes there is lots of players out there that have great generosity. I definately would love to see alot more.

This. I give money to corpmates all the time for free, I had two corpmates ask for assistance with L3's the other day, and I had them post their Drake fits. I sent them both 15m to get Purger rigs and they no longer needed help.

I have made it general rule not to respond to begging in Eve. It's usually a scam or someone too lazy to find their own way. That said I have given away not inconsiderable sums to those who have seemed as much into this game as me whether they be a 3 day old noob or a long standing trusted corp mate. The two corps I have belonged to in 4 1/2 years playing Eve both were/are very close knit bunch of people who would help anyone in need. I'm wondering if this happens in other games? Eve seems to be a community like no other I have encountered in gaming.

Originally by: Kurama Bingyi This past week, I came across something that I wouldn't have expected in a lifetime: Generosity. I made an idle comment in my Corporation's chat about how much I would have loved flying in a Wolf Assault Ship. Knowing that I wouldn't have been able to afford one in the near future (lol poor noob), I just made it one of those, "Meh. If I get one, great; if I don't, oh well" toned messages.
Well, lo and behold, someone had sent me a contract - for free - for a Wolf sitting in a hangar just three jumps away. Along with an optimal T2 fitting. I was utterly speechless. I know it's not the greatest of ships that I could fly, but the entire reason I had come into EVE was the opportunity to fly a Wolf. I had lost three others, before, due to my own stupidity, but this was during a time when I had hardly any major skills trained other than the ones that were required for piloting a Wolf.
So, this really got me thinking: how generous would you be if someone asked for help?
I mean no disrespect, but if some think this thread is "News", they clearly been on with the wrong attitude about this game.
Generosity should be something that should be taught to you as soon as you have your first endeavors in EVE. It's all about building bridges and make new friends. Don't expect people to beg for help, that's hard for the common human. Take the first step, hand out a few coin, invest a couple of minutes talking and keep this person in the game. No one wants anyone to leave just because they realize we have a greedy community.
I'm glad I was born and raised in E-UNI. In fact, playing with the same people who have helped each other simultaneously for the past 3-4 years, it's one of the things that makes me proud.
But seriously...the nerfs aren't helping and they will seriously change attitudes...for the worse.

Well as a few already sayd..
I dont give when ppl ask directly. but lots of times i given noobs free ships up to 100m i aswell received 300m from a stranger without any reason really.. biggest thing i gave away was probaly something small but big for my "small corp".
had invited a bunch of miners to my corp relaxing and mining. so i payd them 3 or up to 10 times as much for the ore they mined they newer realized it actually before i told them around a month ago ( this is 2 years ago ) then they found out how they could aford big ships by just mining in a friget or retriever even.
But i stil do this sometimes help out a new guy let him follow and ask for advises.. but i rarely give free. work even you dont earn alot isk on it.. it may give alitle stil :)

I gave an RL friend 600 mill the other day, muppet broke the first rule of EVE and flew in something he couldn't replace. Well he could, he just expensive tastes --- There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

Like plenty of others here, I regularly help out new (and older) members in my corp. One of the biggest things I do is have a new player train Cyber 4 and then give them a set of +4 implants. 100m is a lot for a new player, not so much for me. Plus it makes a HUGE difference in skill training speed, which also keeps them more interested in the game. I just tell them to stay away from lowsec =P.
But for those new players that DON'T stay out of lowsec (that aren't in my corp), I really can't turn down a kill, but when I do pop a noob, I generally send them a few mil. Have recruited 3 people that way so far haha.

Quoting myself now...
I forgot about this thread. This weekend I gave out a Drake, Noctis and 67 Million ISK Skill Book to 3 different people in CP Provisions chat...

I give away loot and isk to honorable enemies all the time....
A couple days ago, I gave a 1-day newbie pilot 3m iskies and some advice after I shredded his rifter that landed in my bubble. Earlier last week, a rapier agreed to 1v1 my ranis, and I gave him back the faction webs after I shredded his ship.
Two weeks ago, I gave away 2 bil in minerals that dropped from some ship assembly array to some guy that honored a 1v1 inty duel....

So yes if the need arises I do help players if they need or give pointers, I've helped a few newbs on missions, Given Skill Books, I even gave away my fitted Drake for free once before. I'm a firm believer in Karma. I get help, So I feel it's only fair that I give help IF it's not some one blatantly *****ing for money. I remember what it was like to first start this game thinking "Wtf have I gotten in to." Newbs should be cared for as long as they aren't you know "CAN I HAZ ISKS?!!"

When I started my corp out I mentioned to a guy that we had our own corp and was just getting started ingame, and over the next two days I think he sent us over 200mil...I kept writting him saying how nice a gesture but we did not need it and thanks soo much..each time I wrote him to stop sending us money...he'd send more lol. Very cool dude, we was newbs (well still am a newb) and that money still sits in corp wallet and has paid for our office for sometime now.
200 mil when ur two weeks old is a huge amount, for us it was. I'll try and help people out when I can and some day I hope to make a new players day a memorable experience and shoot him a pile of isk...cuz it sure is a good feeling helping someone out and I KNOW it feels good to get it haha

Funny you should say that!! I have been also thinking about the Conduct of Pod Pilots. What I found is as follows: Greed, Malice, Hate, Violence and the desire to harm the hard work of others... one would think well counting all the pirate corps out there what would you hope to find... fluffy cuddly carebears? YES! It can be so!!! AND it shall one day be...
When I started playing Eve online the "goon/4chan/grieffer" (what ever you call them) crap was everywhere!!! Thanks to countless assaults I myself gave up on playing other MMOs and found a home in the Eve Universe. Since then I have joined force with other like minded men and women IAC >> DT >> BFF so on and so forth. Each Alliance/Corp offerd new and fun times: new rules, new tactics, new friends, and new FCs. Most pilots i've met have been great at trying to be helpful. even the reds by giving us pew pew fun.
To make a long story short lots of changes in game mechanics and nulsec politics lead me to where I am today (still a noob lots in the masses lawl.) But this Newb has amassed fortune and power few only dare dream of. Once complete my investment alone will be some 100B... yes... BILLION....... The only thing placing my investment at risk is Politics. Sounds simple huh? Well its not.. These politics have been ****d, murdered, raised as a zombie, ****d and murdered again. So to conclude my lil Forumz rant: I would bring peace to all that is Plagued with war! I would stitch the broken bonded and mend old wounds.
