Haiti got a PLEX aid Japan got a PLEX aid now the USA gets one too
What happened to Australia's PLEX aid?
I'm an Australian myself, and I'm offended that we were denied a PLEX aid. I support hte PLEX aids, and will continue to do it. But CCP denied us Australians one. Why? I want answers.
I asked CCP Why, they say "Plex aid for Good drives are requested by players and they simply act as the conduit for their requests"
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1446367 Was that not a request?
What about the rest of the Australians and others around the world supporting a PLEX aid for Australians?
CCP, Answers are needed right now!

There are many worthy causes out there, they cannot address all of them. I would say the answer you already have is more than sufficient. ===== The world will not end in 2012, however there will be a serious nerf to Planetary Interaction. |

And how would that be? They give the money donated to the Red Cross, or so they claim. As pointed out, it's Player Requested. PLEX aid for Australia WAS requested, where the hell was it?

The answer as I remember it was donate through the Red Cross. So I agree with you maybe they should all be through the Red Cross rather than CCP and PLEX.

CCP responds to player requests in these matters. It would follow that requests for this latest disaster outweighed requests (certainly valid) for Austrailias plight at that time.
You'll notice CCP is getting better organized in these matters, and their response time is improving. It could very well be that if this situation were to arise again in the future (depending on what else is going on world wide, and the volume of requests to start a Plex aid drive for the issue) there might indeed be the response you wanted.

Seriously, do you people (by that, I mean Australians) do nothing but whine all the goddamn time on the forums? Because, if I may speak frankly, that is all we seem to hear from you.
A problem with DT? An Australian will whine about it.
A problem with when patches are rolled out? Yep, an Australian player will produce a whine thread.
And now this, about the lack of a Plex for Australia? Check and check.
I think it's really, really rich of you to call particular other nationalities "whinging [Poms]", when this sort of crap gets thrown on the forums often enough.
Content: Australia doesn't need a PLEX drive - the loss of human life was insignificant compared to the other PLEX drives. It is for that reason as well that I think the American PLEX drive is also a bad idea. -------------- Fix the game's last broken weapon system - support if you care!

Thats why my best mate and his wife died in Grantham when that whole town was wiped off the face of the earth and now have his kids with me at my mother-in-laws house. Not even my own house because my house went under too!

While I am sorry on a personal level for the individual human tragedies, compare the losses with what happened in Australia to Haiti and Japan. Big difference. -------------- Fix the game's last broken weapon system - support if you care!

No difference. The death toll in Australia equals that as to what the US claim. Can't use that as an excuse.

I'm not going to contend that Austrailia was not worthy of a Plex drive, I'm saying that a number of factors are involved.
1: Is there currently a Plex drive on for another issue. 2: Were there sufficient requests for a Plex drive for that issue. 3: Is CCP prepared at that point in time to organize another Plex drive.
Yes, obviously need enters into the equation. And there is no doubt that the situation in Austrailia was worthy of a Plex drive, just as was Haiti, Japan, and now the US.
People need to understand that need for assistance from the Red Cross has little, if anything, to do with the size or economic situation of the country in question. Governments do not fund the Red Cross. The Red Cross handles situations that governments do not or can not. The Red Cross (and Plex drives) are a way for the private citizens/companies to be able to help on a personal level to provide direct support in addition to or instead of any possible government funded disaster relief efforts.
Edit: Final point, it's not all about the death toll. The dead need little in the way of financial support. Need would be determined by the number of devestated survivors in need of assistance, as well as how much damage was done to the basic infrastructure needed to maintain their safety and health.

Rebuilding is still going on and I would see the money go towards that and a few other things. We have recovered slowly and have core utilities functional again. There are companies that have completely dissapeared including the company I used to work for. Many people are out of work and have no income still. There are people who have families and only earning just enough to get by and now don't have the money to sustain themselves. Some money should go to helping those too. St Vincent De Pauls do food and clothing packages to people like them and have been bombarded and just cannot keep up. They are running out of supples themselves. There are a lot of things I would see the money go to.

1: Is there currently a Plex drive on for another issue. - No, the PLEX aid prior was months before, There is only a gap of 1 1/2 months between Japan and US PLEX Aids
2: Were there sufficient requests for a Plex drive for that issue. - A number of petitions were filed, requests made on forums and even on CCP's Facebook page.
3: Is CCP prepared at that point in time to organize another Plex drive. - They should have been. They seen what was going on.

1: As I said in my original post, CCP appears to be getting better organized on these efforts as time goes by. This is a good thing. It is quite possible that AT THAT TIME they were not in a position to launch another one.
2: Neither you nor I know how many requests were filed. There wasn't a great deal of response (although what was there was indeed heartfelt) in the thread you linked.
3: And just why "should they have been"? Being aware of a situation does not magically make things happen. Organizing these Plex drives is not their job, nor is it a responsibility. It's something they do as and when they can, and should be applauded for their efforts... not damned because they can't respond to everyone in need.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. You make a good point, I can't see any reason to not have one for Australia as well beyond that they probably just didn't think about it. I doubt they shut you out on purpose though.
I would like to see CCP set up some permanent charities that can be donated too year round like Red Cross and Food for the Poor. Then allow people to pick which one to support and maybe allow for a short text that can be sent with the funds to the charity so they can be earmarked properly. So then you can donate a plex to Red Cross with the instruction "for Australian relief." ------- "The strong are often wrong but the weak are never free." |
