When I made that thread OP, I got similar responses to you. I reckon I know what the problem is. Most people can't wrap their minds around the scale of the QLD floods. Gotta remember, most people who play eve are from europe, they are used to being able to drive across three countries in the space of two hours. Sure, you can bandy around phrases like: "A single farm the size of Belgium" "Area underwater equal to France and Germany combined" "you could drop the entire UK into the flood zone and not find it for three weeks" "3 days drive to get from one end of the devistation zone to the other" But eurpoeans don't understand size. I reckon that fundamentally, they just don't get it. The Americans do, so do the Canadians. But forget help from europe. Their nations are so small, they can't comprehend national disasters the size of ours, they compare it land % wise and just shrug. And for those who say "the human loss is insignificant", you are sick sorry bastards. During the QLD floods, a 12 year old boy and his 10 year old brother were clinging to a piece of debris while being swept away in the floodwaters. When a helicopter came to rescue them, it could only rescue one of them at a time. The 12 year old insisted they take his little brother first, and by the time they got back to pick him up, he had been swept off and drowned. Think about the kind of situation that pushes a child of 12 to consider his own mortality versus one of his siblings, and knowingly sacrifice himself so his brother can live, and then tell me that the human loss was insignificant. Think about his little brother, who will grow up and live his life with only the vaguest memories of an older brother who chose to die so he could live, before ever really living himself. Imagine the guilt of that memory. Imagine all the lost moments. Do you even have the capacity for that kind of empathy? To those who can read that story and still think the loss was meaningless, I say this: You sick, sorry bastards. I spit on you, and I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, hope your whole family and everyone you ever loved dies in a minor epidemic, leaving you with not a single person in the world you care about, and when you go to tell people about it, they tell you the loss from that epidemic was insignificant.
