There was a quick server reboot today to prevent an exploit.
-----
And for those of you who doesn't read all posts before you reply, here's what GM Wyrm posted on page 3.
Originally by: GM Wyrm Again, sorry about the short notice. We needed to take it down as soon as possible. We are applying a hotfix as we speak.
If you log back in and find yourself in a pod, send us a petition through the Ask A Question page and we will find the scrap metal that used to be your ship weld it back together.
-----
Latest ETA for server to be back up is at some point before 1500GMT/EVE Time.
-----
There's some news about it.
Originally by: Oveur We had to take Tranquility down to address an severely exploitable situation. We found the bug causing the market exploit and were back up 80 minutes later. We are now working on reversing the damage. We apologize for the downtime and hope you understand the need for drastic measures under circumstances like this.

I will delete the locked threads to clear up the first page of this forum.

So was the server reboot just to give CCP 20 mins to figure out what to do about it... or did a fix actually get applied during this reboot?
I can just imagine a Dev reading the forums and saying, "OMG, EXPLOIT! I don't know what to do, panick is setting in! Quick! Someone pull the plug to give me time to think!!!"

Yeah, I'd also like confirmation that the people who abused this exploit will be returned to their pre-exploit status. ------------

The lack of punctuation today is rather shocking.

If the server had been left alone til reboot then people would benefit from the exploit aall day long, then people would complain that nothing was done and these other people gained something they shouldn't..
If the server was taken down instantly then the exploit would not become well-known and abused by mass-players as it would be stopped immediately, but people would complain that they lost their ships etc to the reboot.
If the server was taken down after a 1min warning the above would happen, but with less deaths as some peeps could warp out to safety..
I applaud the decision ___________ ~Fredbob~

Well done. Game breaking exploits must be splatted like bugs, and this one was. I am confident you have the balls to roll back too, if that is needed.
To all people complaining - get a clue. Too many times the GMs don't take action fast enough and while it is all nice and dandy for a moment, it can break a game for A) long time B) forever.
If the petition line did get longer - who cares. They are replacing the lost stuff and all that is sooo minor nuisance to what this exploit was about, if what was posted in another thread was true.
Once more, well done, whoever brought the server down quickly.

In any case. If that was the bug, then you're right to take the server offline straight away. This could have thrown eve upside down.

all i got to say is kudos to the gm's on how fast they reacted. looking at the posts it took about 10 minutes to react. Most fighter squadrons can't react that fast. WTG
ccp pls pimp the convoys again.....ie put things back in them. |

Actually thats wrong, you dont need anything between the 'today' and 'to'. Its the same comment and shouldnt be seperated. Basically ',' are only put in place where there should be a break or to make another point.
eg: 'I was walking down the street, after leaving my house, to get to the shop'

Yeah, great decission!
The exploit where you could [secret, dont say it again] if you [OMFGIFYOUSAYITAGAINWEWILLCANCELYOURRIGHTTOBREATHE] would have been devastating to the game. 1 minute warning was really a huge service to the players, considering the potential damage that could be done in 1 minute by [OKTHATSITWEKNOWWHEREYOULIVE].
Roll back or whatever you need to do. That might also have the beneficial effect of getting some of all the whiners to cancel their subscription. Hell, I'd vote for a daily rollback just to get rid of them :D
