CCP; Outstanding Job boys!!! (AND girls!) Certainly with all the news of private info being hacked off some of the worlds biggest gaming servers, you have handled this very well. Kudos to you and thank you... Now, can we talk about the loot I had to leave behind? (JOKING... sort of) Good job!

If I wanted my mother telling me when I could and could not play a video game I would move back into her house. The fact of the mater is, this was not an attack to try and destroy EVE or gain valuable information but merely an act of an online gang who became bored and needed something to do. EVE was bound to be a target at some point in time.

Originally by: Gellan Alabel I have to agree. A few hours of lost game time was a great time to get outside. In any case a quick response to a DDoS is way more important, you personal data can cause you thousands of REAL money.
Actually no, I took advantage to go out and buy something. Ended up wasting a tank of gas and not getting what I wanted cause the store ****ing closed by the time I found it.

slightly annoyed that i can't play, but considering what is happening my anoyance will take a backseat to my relief and thanks to CCP for their actions 100,000,000 people got their information compromised on the playstation network through some type of hackery, and i thank CCP that my name is not being added to the list of statistics by their quick actions
some people suggested having the payment information cleared and not stored, but its more than that, there is the simple login information for individual characters that would allow unauthorized access to your characters probably resulting in thousands of titans being for sale on ebay

I'm in no doubt that taking the service down was the correct response to this situation no matter what captain hindsight has to say later on. Thanks for acting quickly and responsibly to a potentially very nasty situation.

Nooo. we don't want to kill them... takes all the fun out of it if your opponent is dead. means they can't appreciate the fact that they have lost... no you strap them into a life support machine, remove their eyelids, pump them full of steroids, and play Disney films to them on an endless loop.

First of all, you guys are doing great, and you're doing the right thing. As a longtime member of this community, I'm proud of CCP's record of customer security. It makes me shiver to think what would happen if CCP were owned by Sony, but... here's hoping I didn't jinx Dust 514.
Secondly, it seems that the past year's wave of internet terrorism has been fueled by one cause: the growing economic war between China and the United States. Information is at the heart of this global conflict, which is why it manifests itself in these kinds of internet attacks. I know that the common wisdom in the corporate world is that "we need to work with China" in order to grow each and every corporation. But at the risk of more DDoS attacks and the risks to customer security?
China's hand is now heavy across all sorts of corporate dealings around the world. As a non-Chinese customer of EVE Online, I feel it is unfair that I get relegated to a second-class internet existence while Chinese players get their own, unconnected universe. I feel it is unfair that all sorts of other corporations make similar exemptions to the Chinese, and I wish that the whole lot of you CCP execs had the balls to say "No, China, you are going to be treated just like everyone else, no exceptions." If they don't want to play with us second class citizens, they can go stew in a corner on their own.
Now, I (obviously) disagree with the actions of those who deny service to clients of corporations that bow down before China. But I do agree in part with their motivations. If CCP really wants to keep itself neutral in the global cyberwar, it needs to sell off its Beijing assets and reboot its Chinese operations from scratch, with the thought of universal equality foremost in its mind. I doubt you could do it, but there you have the shortest road out of this madness.
In the meantime, I'll just hunker down and try to weather the coming DDoS storms. -JM |

To the Eve Community of Profiteers, Pilots, and Pirates:
I read most of the replies to this announcement. I'm new to Eve - only a week old - but I have wanted to check Eve out since it was announced (and I have also wanted to AVOID EVE - for fear of getting SUCKED in, as I did when I foolishly downloaded and activated the 14-day trial last week. I sub'd 3 days later. :D
Anyway, rather than rant and rave and have a tantrum, the mature Eve denizens applauded CCP for being decisive and quickly erring on the side of caution in OUR best interests.
Yes, Kudos to CCP for acting quickly and wisely, but as a new user, I also say "Kudos to the Eve Community of Players for reacting in such a dignified manner."
This Eve place ... is quickly started to feel like home.
Can you imaging how the WoW kiddies would have reacted? Did you see the YouTube video of that kid whose mom shut off his WoW account??!! Hilarious - and disturbingly sad...

Sorry if I am gonna have to crab like a lot of other people, but what fun that on one of my two days off, on my birthday, this happens. Not you're fault I know, but what I am annoyed about is that the server comes back up and then I get kicked off again...trying to reset my PI so I can at least get SOME ISK.
Yeesh...wonder how I can make back the ISK I lost from this fiasco...
Ha ha, can totally relate, every time I end up with time off work there's either a patch or an outage! The sooner this is sorted the better, can't keep depriving people of blowing me up lol
Yep, I get Tuesday and Wednesdays off...Patch Days...this never goes well for me.
