Real problem is that it shines more than a uncomfortable light on the EVE PLAYERS!

You are all a bunch of whiners! First you complain about possible micro-transactions and now, when CCP introduces macro-transactions, it isn`t right either... Make up your minds, jeez... ____________ nerf metagaming, boost fun |

"Oh lol, you play the 70$ monocle game?! Hah!"
Corp just recruited several brand new players, ranging from a few days to a couple of weeks old. I actually felt totally embarrassed when seeing them on yesterday - worried that they were going to pop out with a "WTF have I gotten myself into??" question/comment. Thank god they didn't know enough yet to start asking uncomfortable questions - other than - "are patch days DT always this bad?"

That's talent.
Maybe that's the monocle's true power. What other power might it secretly have!

That's part of why I unsubbed.
I don't want to be associated with EVE with this type of thing going on.
Seriously, if I tell my friends at this point that I still play EVE...
Then take with it walking (slow motion walking) with bad controls (wasd not doing what is expected) and the rest of it.. not worth it any longer.

The "in-game advertising" angle is, I suspect, what the whole deal is with forcing people into the CQ (they've said the option to turn it off is temporary). That big TV screen in there that is constantly showing info on the game will probably get about 3months run time before we see the first 5second spot for NVidia or, worse yet, World of Darkness.
The would be hilarious. Imagine a captain, relaxing on a sofa in the CQ and on the big TV screen there's an ad about vampires and werewolves.

It's not stupid who asks but the stupid is the one who pays.
I don't really give a flying ****ck what some stupid vanity item like monocle costs. It can cost 1000Ç for all I care. Eve is a game about spaceships. 99% of my eveplaying time I'm in space, shooting something.
I mean our avatars are now hanging in their small room alone. Why even bother to put up some vanity items? You guys like to play barbies also? Doll house maybe?

I admitably guffawed when I opened up the gold shop and saw the prices... not that it really matters to me since I will never by stuff like that anyway... but...
just as you say I spend 90 (if not more since I live in WHs) out in space shooting stuff. What kind of annoys me is that they have spent months and months to get this out... and in the end what this expansion really was is a tight room, turrets that come out of your ship and some bug fixes.
Personally I would have liked it a lot better if they would have spent all that time on fixing things that need fixing instead of this visual fluff that will keep the average player occupied for about 2 minutes before they turn it off.
If anyone want to buy $60 monocle then fine, if you wish to trade 4 months of game time for a pair of useless monocles the fine, go right ahead, I will think you are a complete lunatic no matter if you bought the plexes with isk or not... but then again, who am I to judge the one buying them.

Originally by: Ayieka pretty sure it was the same way when tf2 released the mannconomy, and they're hardly hurting for players.
everyone just loves to jump on the 'we hate microtransactions' bandwagon whenever it shows up, a day later they're buying hats for their dude.
The difference here is TF2 is a $20 one time fee FPS, and yes it hurt the TF2 total population. While this is an MMO with a 15 a month subscription fee. We shouldn't need to pay for our subscription fees should be going to. Also if they're hurting for players perhaps they could lower sub fees down to $10 they could bring in more people that way.

Originally by: Takseen I'm not sure the $2.50 Oblivion horse armour is a fair comparison. A better one would be the $25 dollar mounts Blizzad sold to their playerbase. And people have bought codes for Trading Card Game reward mounts on EBay for hundreds of dollars.
Personally I'm a bit bemused by the whole fuss here. Any of the in-game cosmetic items can be purchased using in-game currency. And the rarer items wouldn't have any prestige attached to them if any level 4 mission grinder could buy them. Even in-game advantages aren't a new thing. Power of Two promotion anyone? Scouting alts, hauler alts, repping alts, probing alts, supercap alts. All ways to turn $ into in-game benefits that can't be earned through normal gameplay.
The only point I'd agree with is that by spending all this time on designing vanity items available to a small wealthy subsection of Eve, the regular subscriber is being ignored. The guys designing the Ishukone Scorpion could have been updating the uglier standard models instead. The guys who built the NEX UI could have been fixing the corp or LP store UI instead. And so on.
I think it is fair to compare it to the horse armor. The $25 mounts from WoW are somewhat more significant than the monocle because they a) actually do something b) are a lot more 'significant' than a piece of eyewear.
Tbh even I, with my massive scepticism of MT in EVE, would probably spend $2.50 for a monocle for lols. And that's saying a lot.

eve-search.com. Although tbh I could see Chribba pulling that if he has to spend $99 just to help out the community for free?
