I think microtransactions would have been more well received if CCP dealt with the existing game problems first and didn't start out with silly high prices. They messed it up this time. Players have overlooked a lot of problems out of love of the game and what it represents. I think a lot of that goodwill has been squandered with the blatant cash grab. This is unfortunate.
The "in-game advertising" angle is, I suspect, what the whole deal is with forcing people into the CQ (they've said the option to turn it off is temporary). That big TV screen in there that is constantly showing info on the game will probably get about 3months run time before we see the first 5second spot for NVidia or, worse yet, World of Darkness.
It wouldn't fit well with the in-game world / lore setting to have modern Earth advertisers.
Thinking about this though I thought something cool for some of you sci-fi people would be a Bladerunner Online MMOG. Now there is a world where seeing huge screens around town advertise odd commercials with Asian characters on screen and Coca Cola would fit.

This post was about the breadth of media coverage and their impact on Eve/CCPs image... not so much to their contents. This is what the public sees and perception is reality... even if that reality is false. There are some good ones on the list that cover the topic in detail and other smaller articles that arent included.

So CCP called an emergency CSM meeting to fly the player reps out to Iceland based on "no real information?"
Would Mr. All-Knowing and his SuperFanBoy care to enlighten the rest of us as to the last time that happened?

Here's another one for the fire: MMORPG - EVE's New Macro-Transactions
Could not find that on the list. Got to love that title.

Edited by: Jada Maroo on 29/06/2011 03:57:06 The press is really bad all around for CCP. You need only read the comments at these sites to see that. This isn't so much about individual articles as it is bad press and player reaction as a whole.
Other MMO forums are LOLing at Eve's notion of "micro"transactions as well.
In the end, though, you have to look at CCP's stated goals with Incarna. CCP's goal was not to sell 50-100 monocles for people to troll with. CCP's goal was to attract a whole new mass of players. New players who read about Incarna on MMO sites and gaming blogs and forums. New players that are now, instead, reading about CCP not giving a damn about the opinions of their players. In that sense, Incarna is a total PR disaster.

In all honesty it really is heart breaking for those of us who really believed in the Incarna project. What CCP has done, perverted it into cash register then shoved it down our throats by removing the hanger view. The pricing, which I really don't care about, has become quite the laughing stock. The really sad part is they are going to let an entire week pass before really doing anything, and god only knows what the "something" is going to be.

You do understand that for every PLEX that has been used by someone to 'pay' for their game time, someone had to give CCP the $$$ for the PLEX in thr first place?
For someone whose corp claims to be an 'Investment Bank' you really don't understand money very well. --- Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum I can tell you that this is one of the moments when we look at what those at CCP will do and less of what they say. |

Actually I had a feeling we would be where we are now after they introduced that... so no suprise there. Just didnt think they were gonna screw it up so badly.

I'm not sure you understand the difference between information dissemination and the echo chamber. Though that's hardly surprising in the modern media climate. It doesn't matter if 500 articles are posted that say 'people are mad about monocles.' It is a story that goes nowhere, mainly because it doesn't have a lot of substance.
The number of stories that have mentioned the Fearless letter's title incorrectly is a sure sign that the majority of the stories are essentially reposts, not true articles by actual reporters. Instead of calling the issue by its actual name "Greed is Good?" with the question mark, they leave it off. As do many posters in this forum. The question mark makes all the difference. The meme team working against CCP is leaving footprints and they aren't hard to find. The missing question mark is the giveaway. A real reporter (and some of those articles are of a higher quality than most) would properly attribute the name.
In reality, the underlying message of those articles is "EVE players love the game so much they'll actually stage protests. The game must be awesome to generate that sort of passionate response." You'll note none of the articles say anything about game play or quality.

This?
As soon as he heard one of his comrades scream ôSQUAD BROKEN!", Eduardo the Space Marine knew that he was doomed. He charged forth in a panic, firing his plasma gun wildly into the air. Somehow the orks had surrounded them! EduardoÆs teammates ran shrieking into the depths of the abandoned tanker, the grunting lustful orks in swift pursuit. Soon Eduardo was alone. The brawny Space Marine collapsed against a wall, panting raggedly. His plasma gun had nearly overheated, and his com units were malfunctioning. No use even if they worked. By now, his whole squad was surely dead. Lost in his thoughts, Eduardo did not hear the ork creeping up on him. Stunned by a blow to the head, Eduardo was thrown violently to the floor. The ork grunted in amusement, bending down and straddling his body. Dazed, Eduardo turned his head to look up at his enemy. The ork fellow was huge, well muscled and even attractive for his species. Right now the orkÆs vibrant green skin was flushing dark in arousal. Eduardo whimpered as he realized what was about to happen. Summoning up his powers as a Blood Angel, Eduardo bellowed in the Black Rage and began to flail about under the ork. The ork simply grunting, riding the panicked Space Marine like a rodeo bull. Already weakened, Eduardo simply did not have the strength to dislodge the much heavier ork. All that thrashing around served to arouse the ork further. His name was Gurk, and the friction as the puny Marine flopped around between his muscular thighs was giving him quite a respectable hard-on. Gurk had meant to save the Marine for his own squad, but he couldnÆt wait any longer. Whipping out his own plasma gun, Gurk seared off the back of the MarineÆs armor, leaving his shining buttocks bare to the orkÆs lustful gaze. Eduardo moaned in fear, his virgin asscheeks clapping firmly together to deny the ork entrance. Gurk simply laughed, ripping off his crude orkish loincloth to reveal a thick green meat pole, nearly 12 inches long. The ork stuck one calloused finger down his throat, bringing up a thick vomit slurry which spattered down into the crack of EduardoÆs ass. Smearing the foul vomit around with one brutish paw, Gurk prepared the Space MarineÆs tender anus for playtime. Much to GurkÆs frustration, his **** was simply too large to fit inside EduardoÆs tight man ****. He grunted furiously, screaming ôWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" in his deep orkish voice as he battered his ****meat against EduardoÆs tightly sealed pleasure ring. Suddenly the Space MarineÆs portal gave way, and the swollen head of GurkÆs **** popped through into the forbidden halls of his anus. GurkÆs pleased snort was drowned out by EduardoÆs scream of agony. The ork began to pump away in earnest, his bulging muscular hips and thighs slamming brutally against EduardoÆs ass. His heavy, furry balls slapped against the humanÆs ass merrily, creating a calypso that pleased Gurk mightily. Blood, a thin smear of *****, and GurkÆs own oily yellow pre-****lubricated EduardoÆs ******* until it was as hot and slippery as GurkÆs own motherÆs ****. Poor Eduardo was swiftly going into shock from the pain. His mind growing dim, he screamed ôSQUAD BROKEN! SQUAD BROKEN!" over and over as the ork thrust brutally into his bruised insides. The orkÆs massive **** had caused a large degree of internal damage, and Eduardo was close to passing out from blood loss and fear. If his squad didnÆt find him soon, Eduardo knew that he would soon die. His poor plasma gun discharged into the floor one final time, overheating from a mix of pleasure and agonizing pain. The Space Marine had been a good **** for Gurk, but he needed something special to truly finish. GurkÆs heavy balls drew up close to his body, and he felt himself tensing, about to cum. As GurkÆs thick semen roiled up out of his ****
