Someone really needs to go to these news outlets and tell them that the issue is far deeper, longer-running and more complex than just $70 monocles.
Long-running unbalances and bugs, forgotten and orphaned content, our subs going to pay for development on other games, CCP's blatant disregard for both the the player base's desires and the body they set up to give them feedback (CSM), the contempt shown by Hilmar in the internal emails . . .
It's not $70 monocles.

I submitted a story to Slashdot trying to point out that very thing: http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/06/25/1847248/EVE-Online-Players-Rage-Protest-Over-Microtransactions

its a real pitty like 2/3rds of this coverage is about the NEX prices and not about the gameplay effecting MT issue which is *actally* why CCP are loosing Ç50000 a year and rising in subscription revenue.

Unfortunately for CCP, it goes way beyond just those articles...ive been floating around a few different games i play tonight...LOTRO, DDO, perpetuum, COD, BF, APB and a couple of other....there is a LOT of talk about this, even from people who had never heard of EVE or CCP.
They seem to see this and a line drawn in the sand by an evil game company trying to rip of online gamers...and its not going down to well.
CCP are gonna have a hard time wriggling out of this.

Edited by: Jada Maroo on 26/06/2011 10:54:59 Katrina, if you could add these to your post please:
Games On Net - CCP CEO is Dismissive of Eve Online Criticism - "... the developer appears to be taking a dismissive attitude to player concerns"
Myth Games - Protests Following Incarna - "many players feel that the expansion is incomplete, and a serious step in the wrong direction"
Strategy Informer - EVE Online microtransaction controversy deepens - "A full blown controversy has hit the space combat MMO EVE Online"
Massively - Eve Online Controversy Erupts In Protests - "Players have gathered en masse at Rens, Jita, and Amarr to show their displeasure."
There's a lot more articles than I ever anticipated. The helmar has hit the fan.

i will remain unvoted.
i will vote no if you can prove one thing,
the NEx is not a RMT, it is not a case of "spend cash, get aurum" players have been purchasing in game currency for years, through the plex system, lets assume the nex starts selling everything the market has at aurem converted prices, but the player market stays open and still runs on isk.
what is the difference between buying a plex, selling the plex in the in game market, and then using the isk to purchase the high end stuff/ and buying a plex, converting it to aurum, and using the in game market to buy high end stuff...
you wanna know the difference between RMT, and CCP's NEx and aurems ideology? a plex, which is what is used to create aurem, is purchasable solely on isk, a wealthy player can purchase a plex for 375 million isk (what a week of lvls 4 missions, a few lucky item drops, a couple of ded4 complexes) convert it into aurem and then purchase items from the NEx, so even if they start selling items uniquely to the NEx, even items that have a in game impact, THE ITEM STILL HAS A STRICTLY IN GAME VALUE, it is not a item that can only be purchased through real money. the monocle that everyone is whining about currently, is what 12000 aurem, or to be more precise 1.3 billion ISK it has a in game value, that isk wealthy players can get.
for you to dislike the NEx is fine, but unless you *****ed about the plex system back when it was introduced, or when you first started playing, you have ZERO right to complain, because a rmt system has been in eve for as long as plexxes have, for you to now compain just makes you look like a pompous ******ed ass.

Same here,I have two mates I had finally talked into trying out EVE telling them this new patch will be the start of something big.Another one I was oh so close to getting back into the game after a years absence. Come June 22,I was screaming 'abort abort' at them like I`d just got bubble camped scouting a gate.

quote from article i was reading:
http://kotaku.com/5815445/furious-over-microtransactions-eve-online-community-explodes-with-rioting
"It doesn't help that CCP have been flat out lying to the face of the CSM - Council of Stellar Management (the player-elected parliament Owen talks about) about their plans, before releasing statements that state agreements that the CSM never made. Considering this was a council formed by CCP to reflect the interests of the players kind of shows you the level of dissent being arguably deliberately created"
Sounds similar to:
the american Administration/Bankers elite=CCP vs Congress= CSM
The smell of of bullsh*t/corruption is rife across the world at the moment in all area's and it makes me sick.

Shame most of them become obsolete Monday morning when the various editors come in and make the diligent weekend custodians research the material (ie. read the OMGEvilZulu blog).
Majority of them are oddly enough focusing on the exact same regurgitated lines the emo-ragers have been spewing, primarily "Luxury/Vanity items are too expensive!". Well guess what, if the pricing was not exorbitant it would hardly be Luxury/Vanity items now would it?
Do you ragers throw a tantrum in the real world when you see an Audi A6 or some wrinkled hag with a Gucci bag as well?

I think microtransactions would have been more well received if CCP dealt with the existing game problems first and didn't start out with silly high prices. They messed it up this time. Players have overlooked a lot of problems out of love of the game and what it represents. I think a lot of that goodwill has been squandered with the blatant cash grab. This is unfortunate.
The "in-game advertising" angle is, I suspect, what the whole deal is with forcing people into the CQ (they've said the option to turn it off is temporary). That big TV screen in there that is constantly showing info on the game will probably get about 3months run time before we see the first 5second spot for NVidia or, worse yet, World of Darkness.
I don't really have a problem with ingame advertisement if it is done well. It is definatly alot better than adding micro ( err macro ) transactions.
However forcing people into CQ is of course the mistake.
They need to make the content good so the players WANT to get in there, not by forcing them.

And it's worse than that. This was a major expansion (at least in PR terms) and should have garnered a lot of enthusiastic press. They've squandered that opportunity completely.

Not only that but they could have got more attention for their other titles too... now all their time at gaming events is going to be spent putting out fires.
